LCI Concrete replaced our driveway in mid-October 2022. Bid for work was $14,900 (less $500 for cash payment). Work completed in one day. Nice work on concrete but then noticed damages to my property; most were minor cosmetic items but when made aware, owner Kalan **** did not offer to have items repaired. A few days later, I noticed that the landscape lighting on the far side of my driveway did not work. I contacted Mr. **** to see about him coordinating repairs, to which he replied that LCI is not responsible. My reply was that they in fact were responsible for destroying the wiring, just were deciding they would not be accountable for the damage. **** Lawn and Tree made the repair by drilling a new chase under the driveway and reconnecting the wires; this cost me $705, for which I believe Mr. **** and LCI Concrete should be responsible. I believe businesses should be responsible and accountable to customers for damage to property. If Mr. **** and/or his crew had stated up front that they would not be responsible for damages to my property, I likely would have found a different contractor who would.

      12/16/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/12/08) */ We do not pay for any landscaping issues due to having in your case removed and replaced over 170,000lbs of concrete in one day. Your landscape "wire" was never seen during the entire project. It sounds like you may have over paid for a low voltage wire that cost less than $10. There's no way for us to know if it was working before we started. I did honor the $600 coupon that I included in the bid that was good for 30 days even though it was years later when you had the work done. Additionally, I did give you an additional $500 off. We've had a spotless record for over 15 years while replacing over 1,100 driveways. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/12/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) In Mr. ****'s response, he says there is no way to know whether the lighting was working before the driveway was replaced. This is incorrect; the landscape lights were not hidden, visible to the casual observer, and Mr. **** and/or his crew could have asked to see the lights turned on prior to beginning the driveway work to verify they were working (should have done the same with the sprinkler system), asked if I knew where the wiring chase under the driveway was located, etc. Further, he denigrates the problem he created by stating that I overpaid for the wiring repairs; the wiring itself my only be $10 worth of wire but renting a horizontal drilling machine to drill a new chase under the driveway costs significantly more than $10. Besides, if making the repair was that inexpensive, perhaps Mr. **** should have made the repair without complaint. My recommendation in the future is that Mr. **** ask about lighting, irrigation, etc. up front at the time of the bid, make the customer aware of what is or isn't his "responsibility", and let the chips fall where they may on how many people sign up with a company that claims no responsibility for damage left behind. Finally, if the justification for not being accountable for this damage is "I gave you a discount", I suggest in the future Mr. **** explain discounts to customers as a pre-payment against any damages his crew causes to the customer's property instead of a reduction in the price of the job. And the $500 discount noted was for payment in cash (not by check or credit card). Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/12/12) */ We will just have to agree to disagree.
