United States of America vs Thomas O'Lear

The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

On September 29, 2022 the U.S District Court, Northern District of Ohio found Thomas G. O'Lear guilty of 21 counts of health care fraud, 1 count of false statements related to health care matters, and 2 counts of aggravated identity theft. O'Lear was originally charged with billing for X-ray services performed by his business Portable Radiology Services, but did not provide, including billing for having provided X-rays to deceased patients on dates that were after the patients had passed away. This occurred between approximately January 2013 and December 2017.  O'Lear also attempted to cover up the health care fraud by forging the signatures of medical professionals to falsely make it appear that services that PRS did not provide to patients, and billed the government for, were actually provided to patients. The court found that O'Lear was found not guilty on counts 12s, 13s, &14s. O'Lear was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison, 3 years probation upon release, and ordered to pay $2,500 assessment fees regarding counts 1-11 & 15-25, and $1,989,490 in restitution.
