Replaced roof. Mail pops. Chimney flashing not replaced (**** says not in contact) so they did the roof and nailed the old flashing OVER the shingles. Leaks when it rains. Quit taking our calls. Estimate to repair $1,300. Also no step flashing. A professional would have seen condition of flashing and insisted new flashing be installed. It has holes in it where it was nailed down before and bent up. Have pictures.

As Mr. ****** mentioned this was NOT in the contract. We offered to REPLACE ALL chimney metal but he did NOT want to pay the “extra costs” unfortunately he was made aware that it was not in the best shape and we advised him to replace it but also said we would do the best we could with what we had to work with if HE CHOSE not to, which he did. Cost was a major factor and the chimney if I recall correctly you also needed to be re tuck pointed.
Also with reusing the old metal obviously there would be holes in it from where it was previously attached to the roof.

We could only do so much with what we had to work with. And again, he was told what could happen over time with the old metal being reused. This has nothing to do with us as contractors or our knowledge while on and installing roofs.

Also I took ALL of his calls, but there comes a time when you can NOT just work for free and keep taking the same call over and over. I can not help that he did not want to pay for a service and now expects to have something for free. This has 100% nothing to do with our work or craftsmanship.
I offered to come out or go out to the house numerous times and his response was always the same and he was not willing to pay for the work. So here we are 2 years later now once again expecting something for nothing or “Free”

I apologize for the inconvenience but my name does not deserve to be tarnished bc a customer declines our service and recommendations.

I am rejecting this response because:

******* is wrong. A professional would have insisted that the chimney be flashing had to be replaced or refused to do the job. The company that just finished the work even showed us how Coffman’s crew used window caulking to seal the flashing!!! The chimney had already been tuck pointed. Would be glad to show before and after pictures. I had a painting business and refused several jobs if someone wanted something that would result in a poor outcome.

Before and after pictures do not show anything other then old and new flashing. We can go back and forth all day regarding this issue. I’m not going to refuse or turn down a job bc a customer declines our services that we offer. All we can do is suggest certain repairs. Bottom line is the homeowner in this case did not want to pay for our services to have the chimney flashing replaced. So we replaced the roof. Now 2-3 years later he paid someone else to do a job that was NOT on our contract and that we did NOT do. I’m not paying for a job to be done by another company bc the homeowner did NOT pay us to do it in the first place.
If it was on our contract and we did the job and did it poorly this complaint would be valid. But since it is not, I will fight this till the end. I am not going to have my name or reputation tarnished by a homeowner looking to get something for nothing and hurt my name or reputation in the process. Hopefully he learns from this and will do jobs and do them complete in the future (without cutting corners to save a few bucks) and take the professionals advice in the future. Again I will fight this till the end. We didn’t replace the chimney metal, (he declined) as he stated himself so I am real confused why he thinks I will pay for it now. He should have just paid for it in the beginning. We don’t warranty chimneys when we do not replace all the metal. This complaint is 100% null and void as far as I’m concerned. Let me know what else is needed from me.
Thank you very much BBB and hopefully you see where I’m coming from regarding this matter.

      [BBB transcription via phone call]

**** was not on the job. The man he had there told my son ***, who lives there, that they would replace the flashing. It was not in the contract it was verbal. If you look at the before pictures and notice how the flashing was nailed down and edges bent up with holes in the flashing, it was a lousy job. I would be ashamed to confess I had done that. I would not suggest this business to anyone.
