On April 15, 2021, a representative of Hub-Langie sent me a contract which I signed for an old driveway tear-up and removal, and a repaving job at our address in Penfield. We opted for the "spring discount" as the company’s estimator wrote on the contract. Nothing happened for several months - April through October. We phoned the company number twice in the early summer and spoke with a representative who said rain was delaying project work. A third and fourth call on September 14 and 15 and received no response to either request for a return call. Then on October 6 a crew arrived and removed the old driveway. As per the contract we paid the Hub-Langie representative with a check in his hand the same day for the removal. For more than a month we have had no activity on the project. I contacted the company again and asked for the courtesy of a return call. The last week of October we were told by a gentleman who identified himself as Pat, that the job would be completed the first week of November 2021. Nothing has happened as of Tuesday, November 9, 2021, in spite of two days of sunshine and more than 50F degrees pf weather. Asphalt must be at a certain temperature to cure properly, and should not be laid in temperatures under 50F degrees. Our driveway is a sad muddy gravel track with a Monroe County Water turn-off valve about midway down the driveway. That appears to be the Hub-Langie idea of a completed job for the coming winter. We attempted to leave an email of concern and a request for a definitive completion date on the company’s web site and were informed in red print "Couldn't submit form due to a temporary issue. Try again later." So we went through the BBB website in an attempt to reach Hug-Langie with a written message. Over the past almost seven months Hub-Langie has exhibited a dismissive and uncommunicative approach and seems happy to leave us with an incomplete job, which is disappointing to us, for a business with an A+ rating with your organiz

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The paving crew arrived without advance notice on November 24, 2021, the day before Thanksgiving. There was no grading, no sloping of the slightly downhill driveway. There was no gravel sub base laid. The asphalt was laid on a 58 year old uneven original gravel base.Appreciate the BBB follow-through. Regards, ***** ******

Mr ******I am sorry you were not notify the day we paved your driveway. This time of year we grab any day that is good for paving. On that day we paved (3) driveways with no complaints. In regard to grading there is a tolerance that we use to compare gravel vs asphalt to fill all low spots & voids & in this casemy paving forman chose asphalt. You stated we laid asphalt on 58 year old uneven original gravel base. There is no expiration date on gravel,it's beenaround for millions of years & it's as good now as it was 58 years ago. Please remember you have a (1) warranty on your drivewayIf you have any questions or concerns please call me.RegardsThomas J K***President###-###-####

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.   This is a follow-up to a BBB complaint submitted 11/9/2021 and assigned ID ******** at that time by your organization. Our complaint was about a driveway paving job which, according to the contract, a copy of which the BBB has on file, carried a warranty. Said driveway, less than a year later seems to be dissolving or disintegrating in patches. Twice a sealing company attempted to seal the driveway on June 22 and again on July 13, yet splotches or "unsealable" areas appear to be forming in the pavement, and becoming sandy, as if the pavement is raveling. The sealing company offered to come a third time, but after two coatings it was apparent that something was amiss with the pavement mixture. Perhaps November temperatures, or an error in binder mixtures caused the deteriorating surface. But this paving company refuses to consider their apparently poor work. A certified letter to the paving company on July 11, 2022 was refused at the company's publicly listed address according to **** data tracking information. An individual did respond on July 11 to a phone message left with the company on July 10. The company respondent was dismissive and disdainful, although he stated he would take a look at the driveway. No subsequent communication was forthcoming from him or the company. We were unaware of any inspection visit. From our perspective and experience, it appears the warranty from this company is meaningless, even when written on their contract. Payment documentation of the sealing work is available along with that company's name, if needed. The quality of the original paving work appears questionable from our experience, and customer service is somewhat owner-centric. This is a company that was purported to be a quality company. That's not been our experience. Sad to see this happen.  I would like the business to call me and set up a time when he can look at the driveway when I am home.  Regards,  ***** ******

We are coming out to inspect this because it may be an issue with the material.

I had an independent sealcoating company come out and look at the driveway because he was in the neighborhood.  I work with him often.   He claims he could not find anything wrong with the driveway.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.  Regards, ***** ******    The seller's contact, signed on April 15, 2021 and completed only on November 24, 2021  clearly states on the back of the contract that:  "The seller ...guarantees such work against defect in materials or workmanship for a period of one (1) year from date of completion." It's apparent that the seller has no compunction to honor his contract. For the seller it's become a game of obfuscation. No action is taken, and written communications by certified mail are refused. It seems to us that imaginary visits by the seller or his representatives have been made to the property with caution to avoid any contact with the client. Additionally, why would a sealcoating company be asked to evaluate a failed paving job? Twice this summer, as documented, a large sealcoating company could not seal various parts of the driveway. We have documentation of the raveling and now cracking of the driveway. Customer service for this company is very narrowly defined and exercised in our experience. The public should be aware of the documented raveling which the seller refuses to address. There seems little value in pursuing any further action with this contractor. In our experience this paving company is unreliable, offers an untrustworthy contract, is dismissive of the customer's concerns and is uncommunicative, unless the BBB is involved. We consider this case closed.
