Retro Fitness tactics in billing are unethical, I cancelled my membership more than once, only to be billed over a period of years. I discovered this because after the vaccination of Covid-19, I wanted to stay close to home (I have had a gym membership with some place else for years). Retro had been billing me for more than 1 year though I had cancelled my membership. The catch is, you have to cancel in person, which is I also did; when you cancel you should receive some sort of documents (which I did not receive); on my most recent and last visit, I again made a personal appearance to cancel. I was charged a yearly maintenance fee. I had missed the monthly cancellation date, hence, even if you appear on the billing date, you must be charge again, if you miss the cancellation date. Retro advertises that members can cancel anytime - but the conditions of cancellation are not made clear. I believe on my in-site visit, I was asked for more money. The "bat" advertising should be brought to the attention of "false advertising" you cannot cancel without being charged a fee and if you are not given certain documents, a third party billing *** Fitness Solutions will continue to **** members. When I asked for a manager s[he] was not on-site or available on weekends. My income was cut due to Covid-19 and it appears to me that Retro Fitness is running a scam forcing members to pay fees for and/or penalties, even when members attempt to legitimately quit due to financial hardship - these tactics should be reported to the *************************Customer response

I have a complaint for Retro Fitness of Rego Park, New York. I signed up a year ago and was never given a contract. All I was told to do was to sign the pinpad. I thought I was signing up for a month to month membership but they signed me up for a one year agreement. Which I never wanted to do. I stopped paying after 6 months and tried canceling but wasn’t able to do so. I stopped paying because I thought it was month to month but I haven’t been there for months. Now they are coming after me for money even though I haven’t received any contract or paperwork. They are charging me a late penalty even though I haven’t been to that gym in a very long time. I’ve been babysitting my autistic brother and focused on school. Please help me resolve this issue as they are now sending it to the credit agency.Customer response

To whole this may concern, a month or two before COVID I signed up to this gym after seeing an advertisement online to my local retro fitness. I had just finished playing baseball and wanted to keep on working out so I thought it would be a good idea. At the time of signing up the rep working there stated to me that I would be able to cancel whenever I wanted because I told her I might be moving soon. Shortly after gyms opening back up I received a call from a collections agency in regards to paying almost $300 for a membership I only used for 2 months and to make things clear I was also UNABLE TO CANCEL or CONTACT anybody to make sure THIS wouldn’t happen. I would like Retro Fitness to have the collections agency stop harass calling me and for Retro Fitness to remove the gym membership from my credit history as it has lowered my score by 28 points and has put me under 700. I have NEVER had anything negative on my credit score, this is insane!Customer response
