******! I had two senior cats insured with Pumpkin for about a year but cancelled last month. I paid around $125 per cat every single month and only ever submitted three claims, between $80-$300. Each claim was denied immediately and outright. One of my cats had "super-eruption" of his perfectly clean (according to my vet before and after his dental exam) bottom two canines/fangs due to a genetic disorder that would have caused them to grow up into the roof of his mouth. Pumpkin denied my claim of their extraction because in his kittenhood, this cat was diagnosed with stage 1 periodontal disease on his back molars which was resolved after a deep cleaning. These two diagnoses had NOTHING to do with each other which my vet tried to explain to them in a letter as well as through notes in their medical records. It didn't help. **********************'s customer service is essentially an automated emailing system that drags out the appeal process until you're due to pay them for yet another month in order to resolve things. It didn't feel like I ever was corresponding with a real person who listened to medical facts or my vet's explanations. I decided to cut my losses since it felt like in the event of an emergency, Pumpkin would only add to the stress or outright deny an ER claim based on whatever fine print they think could be used to save them some cash. They say they care about our pets yet will do whatever it takes to deny you then write you off when you appeal, regardless if you've already given them thousands and are only claiming $80 for a medication they, non-doctors, decide isn't necessary. To be honest, this company seems like a straight up predatory scam and I really hope the BBB looks into them. Unfortunately, soon after cancelling my policy, my cat was hospitalized for a kidney issue. Had I actually been confident in this company's business practices, it would have saved us both but Pumpkin is too greedy to be trusted. Look elsewhere for the sake of your beloved pets!Review from Dane R

Thanks for your feedback, ****. Keep in mind that to receive reimbursement, you must first meet your chosen deductible in eligible claims. We definitely understand it can be frustrating when a claim is not approved. Like most providers, we do not provide coverage for pre-existing conditions. This means that if something occurs, or was showing signs or symptoms prior to enrollment or during the waiting period, it would not be eligible for coverage. This includes conditions that are related to, secondary, or resultant from a pre-existing condition. Once a claim is filed, it is then processed by a Pumpkin claims team member, all of which have a veterinary medical background. Our claims team uses medical records and documentation provided by your veterinarian in order to determine coverage eligibility. Keep in mind that while we may not be able to offer coverage for pre-existing issues, new unrelated accidents or illnesses may be eligible for coverage. Additionally, if you added the Preventive Essentials Plan but cancel your plan prior to the end of the 12 months, you may owe an outstanding balance equal to benefits received minus payments made towards the plan, as outlined in the customer agreement. If you need any further assistance, you can reach our care team by phone or chat during business hours, or email us anytime.Review from George S

Pumpkin insurance is worthless - DO NOT waste your money. Pumpkin deinied 5 of my claims in one year claiming it was due to a "pre-existing condition". My dog has allergies and has been on medicine (Apoquel) for many years which works well to prevent skin itching. He caught a case of Sarcoptic Mange - a mite that ******* into the skin, causes hair loss, severe itching, loss of appetite, and even death. The mange mites led to a severe yueast infection in his skin. According to all the vets, none of this was due to allergies. We went to 5 vets before it was all fully diagnosed and treated. Dog was on Nexguard and antiboitics for 6 weeks and finally recovered. Pumpkin said this was all pre-existing conditions and refused to cover any of it.Pumpkin Insurance Services Response

I am compelled to share the abysmal experience I had with Pumpkin Insurance, a company that should be avoided at all costs. Despite a glowing recommendation from a trusted friend, our dealings with Pumpkin Insurance have been nothing short of disastrous. We signed up with Pumpkin Insurance in September, expecting peace of mind for our pets' health. Instead, we encountered a barrage of denied claims, each met with the same two flimsy excuses:1039 - Pre-existing conditions that occurred on or before the first effective date of the applicable coverage or during a waiting period.1019 - Different Pet: These services performed were for a different pet. These codes were used indiscriminately, even for brand new conditions that should have been covered. It became glaringly obvious that Pumpkin Insurance was using these codes as a blanket excuse to avoid fulfilling their obligations. Attempts to get a clear explanation were met with silence or vague, unhelpful responses. Its as if their customer service is designed to obfuscate and frustrate rather than assist. This companys behavior is beyond unethicalits fraudulent. They are collecting premiums under false pretenses, making empty promises of coverage that they have no intention of honoring. We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) because this level of deceit should not go unchecked. As conscientious pet owners, we need reliable insurance to ensure our pets are protected in times of need. Pumpkin Insurance has proven to be utterly unreliable and dishonest. We have since moved to a more reputable provider who actually delivers on their promises. In conclusion, I cannot stress enough how important it is to steer clear of Pumpkin Insurance. They do not uphold their contractual obligations and seem to be engaging in deliberate bad-faith practices. Protect your pets and your peace of mind by choosing a trustworthy insurance provider, not this fraudulent operation.Furious and Frustrated,Pumpkin Insurance Services Response

This place is a scam, have had insurance on my 8 year old German Shepherd for almost a year paying $122 a month. Never used it yet, and now they say it's going up to $230 a month. This is highway robbery, and this is how they get $1,300 of free money. Just think if a thousand people paid the same that I did and never use it and then they almost double the cost for no reason. That's alot of money that they are ripping off people!! This company should be put out of business, I'm trying to help my dog, they are making it so people can't! Stay away from this horrible service!Pumpkin Insurance Services Response

Rate increases occur through any pet insurance unfortunately, and the past couple of years they have been raising more than usual due to the high costs of veterinary care and inflation. We pride ourselves on working hard to keep premiums as low as possible while still providing quality coverage! Keep in mind that your premium is based on your pet's breed and age as well as your geographic area. The number of claims you submit will not affect your premium. We'd love to chat, please contact us at ******************************** with any additional questions or concerns.Review from Cg G

This company is a scam. Anything you submit will be deemed a pre-existing condition. If it's not, they'll find something in the record to connect it to or just straight up fabricate it. The practice is predatory. Don't waste your money.Pumpkin Insurance Services Response

Beware: Had high hopes for Pumpkin and thought I did enough research, however the fine print will always get you in the end, that's how these companies survive. Two things to beware of before you might choose this insurance:1) If you pay for 'preventive care', their package for things like vaccines, wellness exams, parasite meds, etc.. there is mostly ZERO benefit, it is simply giving them the money first and then they pay it out back to you, so they can make interest on your money. It is not Insurance of any kind, if you use the amount you paid for you're done, if you cancel you will owe the money back to them, if you didn't use it and you cancel, well they keep it anyway. Clever!! Now it does say on the screen it isn't insurance however it is pitched like an add on of sorts as you're setting up your insurance... would you like to add preventive care for $10 (or whatever) a month? Sure... later to find out it is completely worthless...the refunds it states you get is your OWN money!2) Any vaccines that you think are covered or eligible, well if they're two doses, like Lepto for instance, 1 vaccine given in two parts 10 days apart, well to them that's two vaccines so they won't cover the 2nd dose. Ask a vet if this is still one vaccine, of course it is.3) If you call and question anything, well that's when the rudeness starts, condescending phone techs.. I had one ask me personal questions about what vaccines I have and then hang up on me.Disappointing I had high hopes for them, but everything so far has been misleading, i'd hate to see what it is like for major payouts.Review from Zachary J

Pumpkin Pet insurance is the worst company I have ever dealt with and is a total scam. How they are still in business is mind blowing. With all these complaints I cant believe the BBB hasnt done something about this scam of a company. We paid $170 a month for months and when our lab had problems for the first time in his life, they pulled the same ole stuff with us they did with most other people it sounds like. Denied the claims and said it was Pre existing condition which is a total lie. Even our Vet told them there was nothing pre existing. Its absolutely numbing that a company like this continues to get away the basically criminal activity. We called and tried to sort things out multiple times until we had to cancel. Hope people read the reviews before wasting their time and money on these scam artists
