Horrible company, needed a crown from a broken tooth, they declined, and I had to pay 1000 out of my pocket, called them up and they told me their dentist said the crown wasn't necessary, asked what did their dentist recommend, they told me they don't know that, I can promise you I plan to drop them and look into another insurance....They are only out to take your money, be warned.Review from Emilee S

I signed up through my employer during open enrollment as I was enrolled under a different insurer that is no longer offered through my workplace. Although, there is a clause in the enrollment documents that states pregnancy was excluded from pre-existing condition as long as I had continuous policy that was no longer offered through my employer. Unfortunately, my application for coverage was denied.Review from Amanda F

Absolute nightmare! Applied for short term disability on 1/2/24, received a single payment, and since then, have been completely ignored. I'm recovering from open heart surgery, and they suspended my payments for a pre existing condition investigation and are attempting to contact doctors that I haven't seen in years. According to **** of ***** regulations under the Employee ********************************* a company has 45 days to process a claim. I've filed complaints with both them and with our state insurance administration. They still have not made any effort to process my claim. Every person I speak with is from a different country, and the website is barely functional. They insist on faxing documents, even after I requested that they be emailed and I be CC'd. They do this so that there's no evidence of their lack of accountability. My advice? Save every communication from them and keep track of dates. Maybe if enough people complain to the **** of *****, they'll be forced to function or shut down. Total scam company with shady business practices!Review from David M

Horrible experience with Guardian Life. It's like pulling teeth to get them to cover what they claim is covered regarding orthodontia, and there are all sorts of hidden rules about how much and when it is actually paid--confirmed by the ortho office. And then when I lost my job, I was eligible for Cal-Cobra continuation, and it was like going back in time. They clearly did not want to provide Cobra, or were too inept, while I was simply trying to give them payment. Cobra isn't cheap, and they can state their price to retain original premium prices, so it's not like a freebie. Their department did not know what they were doing, gave me the wrong info multiple times, and when finally giving me the docs to process, only allowed payment via a mailed check. No way to confirm what was happening unless I called through an impossible phone tree and returned to a person who still didn't know what was going on. At the end of the year, after a few months of dubious coverage, I asked about '24. The rate went up as expected, they said I could continue paying for the next year and I paid it for the next two months as it does help some for costs for my kid's teeth. Come now in Feb, I find out they cancelled it as I was no longer eligible for '24. I found out only when the ortho office tried to get payment for my child's treatment. (From what I gather from my start-up, this is legit, but they should have known, told me and not taken payment.) No notification, and they cashed both checks. I had to call to find out and ask for my money back which they claim they're refunding. I described the experience to multiple Guardian customer ********************** people, and they were cold and basically said it was my fault. I asked, human to human, for at least some acknowledgement of my difficulty or at least "we'll look into our process and provide your feedback"--nope, really heartless, bad service, untrained and borderline unethical.Review from Blaine P

I was on Paid Family Leave. ** week program. It took 7 weeks to process my claim and every time I called to check in. Always a different answer from a different agent. My mom passed away I was caring for, week #** they cancelled my benefits and made me pay back the remainder balance for week #**, she died half way through the week, weekly pay, then completely no pay on last week of leave #**.Review from Alexander E

Stay away from this company if youre going on short/long term disability! I have been recovering from a surgery since December 18, 2023. Its February 2 **** and I had only received one payment. I am a diabetic and I am struggling to pay for my medication and my bills. They havent been helpful at all. I have been hung up on and given the runaround. I regret ever trusting such a horrible company. They took my money from my checks on time while I was working, but when I needed them, they were no help. ****** learned. Hopefully someone will learn from my mistake with this terrible company. Its a toss up and I wouldnt bet on them ever again.Review from Roy H

By far the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Every time I have to renew my FMLA, which they make me do every 6 months, there is an issue. This time they lost my paperwork and didn't notify me. Within 2 weeks they are supposed to notify with an acceptance or denial. When that 2 weeks was over and I called my dr to make sure the paperwork was sent and they told me they had a confirmation letter I decided to call guardian and guess what. It was lost. No kidding. Lost? You didn't notify me that it wasn't received within the 2 week time frame that you push for insanely hard yet its just lost? With all my information on there? Just misplaced? Thrown away? You don't know, just not in your system. So I get written up at work and the reason being is guardian claims they never got my paperwork. Hiw come I have a confirmation letter it was received? I absolutely hate dealing with them and wish my company stopped using them. Not one person I've spoken to at my work has had a good experience dealing with them. Its always headaches and hassle. Thanks for losing my stuff again.
