I have received a collection letter for an IRS debt. 2 things: 1. The IRS does not use a debt collection agency fto collect a debt. 2: In the fireld: "Tax Assessed", the balance I owe is "$0.00", but then for some reason an externl collection agencty is trying to collet interest and penalties on a $0.00 amont of $1600. I also see that they tried to scam someone els. I am in contract with the IRS and BBB to figure out how they even got my company info. SCAMMERSConServe Response

I have settled my debt with the school, regardless of being wrongfully charged, due to still having to pay my student loans. The agreement I made with the Vice President of the school was a pay for delete. I made the payment in full to the school with the written understanding that upon payment the collections would be fully removed from my credit with all credit bureaus. I gave it 3 months before contacting the school, and after another month I was finally informed by the school “I followed up with our collection agency and they informed me that they are not allowed by law to request to remove the item from your credit record. They only thing they can do is to indicate that the debt was paid. I apologize for any misinformation.” I of course had done my research before making the agreement with the school; and know that by law it can be removed, and they are legally obligated to do so especially at the request of the school as a result of the written agreement between the school and myself. I have since contacted an attorney due to the fact that it has now been over a year since my payment and thus this should no longer be affecting my credit.ConServe Response

Dear Ms. *******: ConServe received your Better Business Bureau Customer Review, submitted on April 29, 2023, concerning your account for the Creditor, Indiana River State College. Please accept ConServe’s apologies for your concerns. In that regard, you indicate that you reached a pay for delete agreement with the school. To the extent you may have been misinformed, it would nevertheless be impermissible to request that the account be removed from credit reporting, and ConServe cannot agree to do so. Pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), as a data furnisher, ConServe is required to accurately report credit information and, in fact, your payment of the account balance occurred after the account entered collections and was already credit reported. Accordingly, upon payment, the trade line was properly requested by ConServe to be updated in order to reflect as paid rather than requested to be removed, and based upon the information provided by the corresponding credit reporting agencies, the account is accurately reflected at this time as a paid collection account. However, if not already so reporting as disputed, ConServe will request an update to your credit report to reflect your dispute of the account. Should you have any questions regarding the foregoing, do not hesitate to contact me at ***** ********, extension 2313 or by email at [email protected]. Thank you.Review from jay K

Can't post unless you select a star rating - 5 stars..."minus five stars" terrible... "Conserve" sent me a collection letter for $35.54. After calling them 10 times, each time with the same result. A recording says I'll be transferred, then says all attendants are busy, then says they are hanging up. In there letter they have me go to a gov.pay site, with the option to settle by ******, once sent to ******, they do not accept bankcards on file with ******. They have charged me "administrative costs of 32% of the original 26.92 I owed, IN 2 WEEKS!! They do not allow you to pay your debt presumably to accrue exorbitant "administrative costs So far, this company appears to be sketchy and if they are an approved third party vendor of the Treasury Department they need to be reviewed and perhaps investigated.ConServe Response

They called me while working, and I asked why they called after calling them back. They said that they didn't call, and I was calling on their line. I didn't know what they were, and told them to never call again. Upon researching, I'm glad I told them as I never took a loan out nor was I late on taxes.Review from JR

Bad business practices from CONSERVE collection company. Here is my story: I received a letter from the school dated 8/31 I have 30 days to pay a bill otherwise they will be left with no choice but to send it to Conserve, a collection company. Then few days later, I received a letter from Conserve dated 9/1 indicating that I had 30 days to pay otherwise it will be reported to the Credit Bureau. On 9/29 I paid the bill directly with the school. On 10/15, Conserve reported the account to the credit bureau. Once I received notifications from the Credit Bureau of this negative new entry on my report, I called Converse and was told even if I paid the balance to the school I still owe for the collection fees of $118. Why should I pay for this when the school had given me 30 days to pay?? and I have the letter from the school. I contacted the school and was told my information was sent to Conserve as pre-collection. Also was told since I had paid on 9/29 Conserve should not have reported anything to the Credit bureau and no collection fees need to be applied since I followed the school instructions letter. Conserve is playing games blaming the school for not reporting updates and that it was my place to contact them after paying thru the school. Meanwhile my credit report is still affected due their negligence. Why should I contact them when a letter from the school indicates I have 30 days to pay? Why should I be responsible to ensure both companies communicate especially when it comes to affecting consumer credit adversely. Conclusion: CONSERVE, collection agency, fraudulently reports to Credit Bureaus without doing their due diligence. This needs to stop. Conserve NEVER contacted me by phone or another letter or the school to get up to date information prior to reporting to credit bureaus. Conserve also refuses to remove the entry in the Credit reporting stating since they received the information from the school then their action was legit and charging me over $100 in collections fees is also legit. I told them about the letter from the school giving me 30 days to pay and they still do not want to consider that. I have submitted a claim to Conserve for the entry to be removed. So they mess up and the consumer has to jump through hoops to get this corrected. This needs to stop. This is bad business practices. I can’t apply for new credit until the collection entry is removed from my report. So my family is NEGATIVELY affected by this situation caused by this collection agency. CONSERVE must do their due diligence prior to affecting consumer credit reports.ConServe Response

ConServe is in receipt of your Customer Review and apologizes for your concerns. Upon review, ConServe’s records indicate the account was placed with ConServe, by *** **** ********* ******* ***********s, on August 31, 2021, to assist in recovering the account. At the time of placement, the account balance was indicated to be six hundred sixty dollars and forty-three cents ($660.43), however, it was subsequently determined that the account was incorrectly placed with ConServe as on October 22, 2021 the Creditor informed ConServe that it received payment in full for the account on September 29, 2021. Accordingly, ConServe requested that the account be removed from credit reporting, and based upon the information supplied by the corresponding credit reporting agencies, the account no longer reflects as being credit reported by ConServe. Again, ConServe extends its apologies for any inconvenience that you have experienced. For any further inquiries regarding the account, you are encouraged to contact the Creditor directly.Review from Danielle H

Upon review, ConServe’s records reflect that it mailed the initial validation notice to your address of record on 6/24/16, with no indication of a subsequent mail return.
