No communication. Slow slow refunds. No update on refunds. Won't tell you that the apartment is still on the market after you pay for admin fees. And will sell it from right under you and keep your application fees worth no remorse. Worst experience I've ever had.Review from Miranda T

Monterra Apartment Homes & *******************,We currently lease Monterra apartments as of June 8th, 2021. We came across Monterra apartments, in a safe part of ***********. When we toured the complex we were wowed on how nice they looked, so we sat down with a sales person and explored our options. We explained what we were looking for (2 bedroom with washer and dryer) and could afford it as we are young parents. From there we went over lease options and ***** pointed us to where the model is. We looked at the model, we were amazed by it and made a decision. We made our way back to the leasing office, started some paperwork and were emailed a pre-lease and an estimate. We left the apartments and were now waiting for our move in date. During that time period we received several different estimates and deposits, as well as the paperwork having wrong numbers and apartment numbers. I had tried emailing and calling several times to get my questions answered and never received them. We then got a call from **** stating we could move in and that she got our emails but I still received no answer. When we got to the office to get the keys we were told they don't do checks so we were given a paper with our daughters name (she is 7 months and obviously is not old enough) for ********** or through the app. We were told we had to pay before we could inspect the apartment. Our original deposit form stated we would owe $1488, but when in office the total was now $2100. We were told we were high risk due to our credit and that we would have to pay $500 more. They told us we had until 6 pm before they close, so we anxiously ran all over town to get money to get our apartment. We got the money and finally received our keys. We drove to where our building is and saw a man under a tarped car being worked on and he stopped and stared at us and our car until we were out of sight. When walking into the building we were greeted not only by a cat roaming the halls but a strong odor of cat **** and cat feces on the carpet (old and new). Walking up the stairs some steps were loose and wobbly. While trying to balance and carry an infant the stray cat jumped over my daughters head. We got to our door (#822) and upon opening we came across several disappointments:The door frame was broken and looked like someone had kicked it in previously The appliances were way outdated The cabinets had dead and alive roaches Under the sinks and toilet it was warped and still leaking There was no washer dryer or even hookups just an empty closet The apartment had cat hair stuck to walls coming out of air vents There was a strong cat **** smell in the unit and the porch (heat made it worse)The apartment overall was not clean (floors, walls, windows shades, appliances)Being that we are disappointed, we did not want to raise our daughter there. We went back to the office on June 9th at 10 am (door has office hours 10-6) we were rudely told we had to wait until 11 when they opened. Needless to say we now did not want to stay there so we are currently NOT occupying the residence. We were told we needed to talk to management and when asked when the manager would be in they told us in a few minutes and we waited over an hour. When ****** finally arrived and asked our problem I stated every issue and that we wanted a refund. We were then dismissed when I told them what **** had failed to do. Later in the meeting **** had finally admitted her fault in the situation but did not apologize for any miscommunication. They told us that it would be fine if we would have paid with a check because they hold checks for three days and then cash them. In this case we could have gone back voided our lease and stopped payment. They said there is only one problem we changed our policy monday and do not accept checks anymore We explained to them that it has not even been 24 hours and we dont want to live here and never moved in. They said it is fine that you changed your mind and dont want to live here, but we signed a lease and already paid our money. Again stating that if we had not paid there would not be a problem. They said we should have asked to walk the apartment before we paid our deposits. As they stated that again the sales lady (****) admitted that she said they had to pay in full before they got their keys and that was not an option. They admitted there has been confusion on their part in the paperwork and how the money is collected, but they could not return the money and there is a bounded contract. We asked to speak to the higher up manager (*******) when she got back from her lunch, we waited and were told she couldn't see us until 3 and we had been waiting since 1.We explained everything to the manager and she told us we could take them to court, but they will win. They told us all the problems in the apartment they could have fixed in 24 hours, the door jamb was being fixed as we talked, and if we did not want to live there we could choose that, but still were not willing to give back the money. They said they had to talk to the corporate. We basically got nowhere. The manager also said no keys until the money is paid in full and also told us that these are old buildings and cockroaches are going to be in them. In summary, this corporation is utilizing very faulty and corrupt business practices. They are abating and switching apartments. This company is taking advantage of people. They are taking their money and holding them accountable to a contract that they themselves are not holding up to. They are taking advantage of people with credit problems or no credit. it is very immoral and we are shocked that a business would run like this, much less a corporation. Also the ********* is still not fixed!Because of these reasons and a loss of faith in Monterra Apartment Homes we are demanding that our contract be void and we receive our money back within 30 days. As stated above we are young parents and that money was our savings and stability to our daughter."
