My ******** are long time customers of ShopRite stores, particularly ******* & ******** ** stores and we spend a fortune there every month. What upsets me is a check I cashed, & Ive cashed many throughout the years there, was returned as having no such account, which was simply the result of using the same colored blue chase checks I keep in my wallet for emergencies. It was a simple oversight/mistake that anyone can make. I totally forgot about the notice I received a few months ago from Shoprite corporate in ****** or ********* **. Now its months later and instead of calling me ON MY CELL cause we dont use a landline phone, they have the *************** to turn me over to a collection agency, who I refuse to deal with nor am I intimidated by! The amount of the check was $200. This apparently desperate loss prevention guy named ********************* is trying to dictate law, whos by far no lawyer, at this small collection agency prevention. He sends me a letter implying legal ********************** for this measly $230 he wants that I owe, which includes a $30 fee, what the h*** is the fee for if the check was from an old closed account? Technically that wouldnt be an insufficient funds charge if an account the check inadvertently written on was my old account & CLOSED! These wanna-be lawyers think they can threaten you with penalties that ONLY a court of law can impose. I resent ShopRite for going to this extreme and not contacting me and also sending the letter to my wife when it was me who wrote the check!! Thats the thanks I get for spending $300 or more ever time we shop at their store(s) I will pay the amount of the check but refuse to deal with a rude & hungry collection agent or agency! Furthermore, my wife cant even use her pay plus savings card since the she was was notified MY check bounced. This is no way to treat long time customers. Mistakes are made and like this collection agency implied in his letter, I was hardly committing fraud!!
