I recently had a GAF roof installed by a GAF Certified roofing contractor. I specifically selected a GAF certified roofing contractor because they were recommended by GAF on the website. I feel like GAF leads consumers to believe that by choosing a GAF Certified contractor, the roof would be installed in a manner that is consistent with the specifications set forth by GAF for their products. Based on an independent inspection of the roof, the contractor did not install the products correctly. I find it highly misleading that GAF would certify contractors, which is perceived as a recommendation to consumers, without providing adequate training or monitoring the installation of their products in any way. I understand that it is not possible for GAF to monitor every roof that a contractor builds, but I would expect GAF to at least verify reported issues with contractors to ensure there isn't a pattern of misapplication. I feel that GAF bears some responsibility with the contractors they certify. The fact that GAF continues to allow contractors to carry the GAF Certified badge regardless of whether they install GAF products correctly is not right. As a consumer, this is disappointing and reflects very poorly on GAF as a company. It also discredits all the contractors that carry the GAF Certified badge.
