I initially reached out to a different service provider ******** *******. They came out and provided a free inspection as well as an estimate to repair our chimney. Angelo of Saf Fire N Stone was confident he could use inspection report from ******** ******* since he had familiarity with the owners. I was impressed by Angelo's knowledge and responsiveness so I elected to go with his company over ******** *******. Fire N Stone completed the exterior work so I thought then it would be prudent for them to do a chimney sweep and inspection. The young inspector failed to identify several tiles in the flue that were failing. This was discovered by Kevin who had come to the property several weeks later to make repairs but couldn't because of the extent of the disrepair that was overlooked by their inspector. Kevin advised a stainless steel liner would be needed since the old ceramic tiles could not be repaired. A quote to install was sent for over 7k so I decided to seek a second opinion. Brian G******** is a 30+ year veteran in the chimney and fireplace industry. Brian came to my house and spent 2.5 hours inspecting the fireplace and chimney. He was appalled that neither ******** ******* or Fire N Stone mentioned in their inspection reports that the firebox was severely deteriorated. Per Brian, because of the safety hazard it would pose, the firebox would have to be removed before he or any other company could install a modular fireplace and stainless steel liner. Also per Brian, the damper that Fire N Stone installed would not have the clearance it would need to open fully once the stainless steel liner was installed. In essence, Angelo relied on another company's inspection report and because ******** ******* made an oversight on the damaged flue tiles (as did Fire N Stone after the fact), I spent money on a damper that is not viable.
