I purchased a new roof in January 2022 paid in full. It was installed in April but not in accordance with my request to the owner Wayne or the crew installing it. Specifically the rear overhang is 1-2dt short and pouring water on the flat roof below. The primary reason for the install was to protect the lower flat area which had prior leaking problems. The crew left with lots of leftover material but failed to properly overhang to divert water as I had asked. I’ve spent months trying to reach them to finally get told it was installed to their satisfaction. I would like them to return and do what was requested of them when I purchased it and what would be expected by any homeowner. Hang it over the one below and stop the water from entering my residence.Business response

We installed a metal roof on the home of Mr. **** in April 2022. We installed a metal roof on the entire home. In addition, we installed a roof over an open A-Frame the customer built to connect two different sections on the main house. The metal roof panels for this section were custom made for the exact overhang. Adding additional length to the panels without any underlying support is against building code and would cause the panels to bend during the snowy winter season. In addition, the manufacturer would also not warranty the panels. I personally saw the completed project and contacted the customer directly. The metal roof we installed on the house and the open A-frame are not leaking according to the customer. I made the following recommendations in writing to the homeowner to assist him in preventing water from coming off the panels onto his old leaking rubber roof below:
1) Add a gutter to the A-frame
2) Enclose the open area so water and weather cannot enter the envelope
3) Build out the roof overhang to longer specifications with additional support- New panels can be ordered and installed, however there is no way to guarantee that water or weather will not enter the open envelope
4) Repair the old leaking rubber roof below.
There are scrap panels that we left on the job site in case they are needed for repairs in the future. These scrap panels cannot be added onto the existing panels to build out the overhang without proper support.
The project is complete and finished according to our written proposal and home improvement agreement.
We take great pride in all the work we do. Will fully warranty our roof and workmanship according to our contract.

I do not accept the business's response as a resolution to my complaint because: it was made clear to the installer and owner our expectation. If he planned to deviate from that regardless of the reason it was his obligation to discuss that with the homeowner/buyer prior to making his own judgement against our wishes.
Sincerely,

We installed our Metal Roofing system exactly how we described to the homeowner. I wrote a proposal clearly and detailed exactly what we were going to do based on the homeowners wishes. Mr. **** accepted the proposal and asked to have a home-improvement agreement drawn up. I detailed further exactly what was going to take place. Mr. **** accepted the contract and paid in full at the end of the year to help with a tax break. We couldn't order the materials until Mr. **** built an A-frame over the open old leaky rubber roof below. Once Mr. **** built the A-frame, we were able to order the exact length of panels to cover this. Mr. **** knew very well that the panel length could only come to the end of his overhang by no more than an inch. If the overhang was built longer, we could have ordered the panels longer. The panels were custom made to the exact length of the overhang that Mr. **** built. However, according to the State building code and the manufacturer's instructions, the panel length cannot overhang a foot or two past his frame.
To be clear, according to Mr. ***** our metal roofing system is not leaking nor has it ever leaked since it was installed. The old leaking rubber roof below the overhang needs to be changed by the homeowner. We did not deviate from the proposal or the contract. Mr. **** did not contact me or my installers during the installation or ask us to stop. We cannot and will not install our metal roofing and go against the State's building code. The job was installed professionally according to our written agreements.
Sincerely,
