I have the hospital indemnity plan, so far I’ve had two claims, both times the staff was extremely helpful very professional and I received my check in a timely manner, it’s very important that you present them with the correct documentation the first time and there should never be a problem or at least that’s been my experience.Medico Insurance Company Response

When my dad was terminally ill in 3/2006, this company tricked my mother into changing her policy. They told her she should do it so she wouldn’t get a big tax bill later. She signed. After she signed they sent a letter telling her that the “Survivorship benefit” was no longer included. My parents had purchased coverage which had this benefit. This benefit, that they had been paying for for years, was a guarantee that when one spouse died, the widow(er) would have continued coverage at no cost. SO, when my dad was terminally ill, they conned my mom into giving up that benefit they had already paid for. PREDATORY Oh, and when my dad got really really sick, we called them to tell them we needed to start using the benefit, they said, absolutely, sure thing, you JUST HAVE TO WAIT 90 DAYS AFTER INFORMING US OF THE NEED. I wish I would have remembered to cancel them back then. SO much wasted money.Medico Insurance Company Response

When I have had questions or concerns and called the home office, I have been given excellent service helping me to track down answers. They have helped me find claims that the provider filed improperly or without the necessary Medicare claim information. The policy pays exactly as the agent explained. We are not at all satisfied with this company, and will advise others to seek coverage with a better company. My husband has been paying monthly premiums for over two years. We only made one claim for a hospital stay on 3/3/23. He was admitted to the hospital for cancer surgery on 3/3/23 and discharged the following day. However, since we cannot prove he stayed in a room (versus the hallway), the claim was denied. We have sent every bill from the hospital and that is not enough. When we asked Medico to verify directly with ******* so they would not be further confused, they advised that we had to do that and they couldn't help. Our transportation claim was also denied. Their form has 3 sections under transportation: date of service, point A and point B requiring address of starting point and address of destination. They denied the claim because we didn't specify the number of miles, despite the fact that there is nowhere on the form to enter specific mileage. I figured it out using Google. Apparently, they are unable to figure that out. In closing, they are doing everything in their power to not pay out a few hundred dollars. Pathetic. Oh, and this was after we submitted the claim twice because they claim they never received it through the mail, which is total BS. Gary B. states: I signed up for Medico's Supplemental plan (I'm retired) on 11-01-2022. The Medico representative said they would cancel the policy I had with ******************************* The representative was supposed to make the cancellation date effective 12-01-2022 but instead made it 11-01-2022. As a result, 2 physical therapy appointments I had in November were not covered by any insurance.
When I started receiving bills in early December from the hospital, I contacted Medico Insurance their (800) phone number in an attempt to find out why the bills were not being paid. The Medico representative reviewed the records and admitted that their representative had made a mistake in cancelling my old company a month too early. She said that the mistake was theirs and that they would correct it so that the bills could be paid.
Since then I've called them on 3 occasions and found that the corrections had not been made. Each time I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told that one would call me back later in the day. No one ever called me back as promised. I have now threatened legal action if this is not resolved in a prompt manner. This is still unresolved as of 1-16-2023 and no supervisor has called back as of this writing.

I was contacted by ***************** and they stated that they were going to pay the outstanding bills within the week. The lady was very kind and courteous. She said that she was pushing through the paperwork and that I should expect to see that they paid the bills. She apologized for the supervisors not calling me back on the three times I called. I am satisfied with the resolution and consider the matter closed as long as they follow through as promised.Review from Herbert M

been paying in premiums into Medico since 2016,submitted two claims both were denied.needing extensive dental and finally after a year and half trying to deal with Medico on this matter,they have agreed to cover $800.00 towards a $7400.00 dental procedure.my policy states 80% dental coverage.i have paid in $3,853.92 since 2016.*************************************Medico Insurance Company Response

Feels "predatory" to seniors.
First call in May; was told forms would be mailed.
Two weeks, no forms,
Called hospital. Hospital submitted claim.
Checked website. Claim received June30.
Was told in another call that claims take 30 days.
Called Friday. Representative was to have a supervisor call. No call.
Checked website today! Now it shows need information!
Called, representative stated a form was being mailed for me to sign to allow hospital to release medical records!
How long will that take!
This is my first claim.
Have had this policy for several years.
Have paid a lot in premiums.
Probably dropping as soon as this claim is finalized.

The hospital indemnity plan I have was sold to me as a helpful ins to pay bills and such when you have a hospital stay. The fact that they are over a month behind on processing claims is frustrating and ridiculous. Don't count on this company if you need your money in a timely manner.Medico Insurance Company Response

It appears that this is a good insurance group, however, getting any type of assistance once a policy holder is extremely difficult. I am not a great computer person, as are many people my age. I in some way I messed up the log in for my husband's policy and called for help and was told there is no such assistance available. I then explained that all I needed was a letter on their letterhead showing the amount paid in 2021 for his monthly payments. They assured me I would receive this in 7-10 days, which I did not. I then sat through the long wait for an employee to speak with a second time. They said it had been mailed (this call being approximately 3-4 weeks after I was suppose to receive it) so I again asked for the form to be mailed and again I did not receive it in the 7-10 days. I have now had to sit through the wait on the phone a third time and was told both times I requested this form it was mailed out but must have gotten lost in the mail. I would believe one time but I do not believe the post office just happened to lose it twice. I believe this form is being requested, marked done, and it is not being taken care of as stated on the phone. In the meantime I am not able to send this information in to my retirement health fund to get my money paid to me. This has been infuriating...I pay the premiums which is nearly $200 a month and they don't seem to want to help me get what I need to get reimbursed from my health account.Medico Insurance Company Response

We contacted Ms. ***** regarding this matter. We apologized for the delay and advised we would be sending out another report today and she should receive the requested information, shortly. We have also escalated her question regarding her inability to access the Customer Portal. A representative should be contacting her shortly regarding this matter.
