I went to MMC-Raleigh from 2012-2015 for the Vet tech program. When I started the program we were not told it was not AVMA accredited yet- and that this would be an applied associates diploma. In 2013/2014 the classes were told that they were officially AVMA approved but not associates approved. I was the second class to graduate from the program (originally first but had to take a break) and by the time We found out that MMC wasn't accredited and just got accredited we were all almost done and had spent a good 25k in loans. In 2015 in my last term we were told that we would be getting our associates in applied science and it would be mailed to us when it was approved. It's 2022- and none of us got an associates from MMC and every person who was in this program has to essentially redo 2 years of college because nothing transfers even though we were all told it was an associate program. I would highly recommend going to CCCC or Penfoster instead. It's been over 5 years and I still owe over 40k in loans for a Diploma, not even an associates that we were told was coming. I don't understand how MMC gets away with costing so much for not even an associates, and how they are able to lie to people and never take responsibility. I am in crippling debt because of this school and was lied to. The program needs to state UP FRONT you will not receive an associates and that nothing can be transferred out.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/01/27) */ On February 27, 2014, the complainant signed an Enrollment Agreement contract with the Miller-Motte College - Raleigh campus, enrolling in the Veterinary Technician Diploma program. The Enrollment Agreement indicated that the student would begin the Diploma program on April 16, 2014, with an anticipated graduation date of July 1, 2015. The Enrollment Agreement also made clear that the type of award she would receive upon graduation would be a Diploma. The student successfully completed the Veterinary Technician program and was awarded a Diploma on July 1, 2015, as set forth in the terms of her Enrollment Agreement, that she signed. Miller - Motte College - Raleigh's Veterinary Technology program continues to be a Diploma program, and has voluntary terminal accreditation status by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities. Miller-Motte College in Raleigh, NC, is an accredited campus that is designed to provide the student with vocational career training and is not designed to prepare the student for transfer to other institutions. Miller-Motte College will provide official transcripts, for a fee, as well as course descriptions by request. Students with outstanding financial obligations will receive unofficial transcripts, when requested. I applied at miller motte college and was placed into classes before my financial aide was processed on my behalf I thought my financial aide was complete but on the college behalf they thought they were doing me a favor. My financial aide ended up not going through and after 2 weeks of being in classes they tell me I have not received funding and they have to withdraw me out of classes then hit me with a $6,000 debt for being in classes. I was not supposed to been placed in classes unless I had funding. I feel as if I was tricked into debt and now this is on my credit it is bad business on their behalf.

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/01/27) */ The complainant attended the Miller-Motte College - Cary, NC campus from 8/6/2018 - 11/11/2018. As indicated in the complaint, she has a balance due to the school which accrued as a result of her beginning her program of study without being fully financially packaged. When the student initially completed her Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application, she completed the application using her mother's information. She then attempted to update her FAFSA application to include her father's information instead; however the student's attempt to process the change with FAFSA was unsuccessful, which resulted in her Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) being rejected. The Miller-Motte College - Cary Financial Aid team, along with the school's Centralized Finance Team, reached out to the student on numerous occasions via phone, email, and in-person meetings during the time of her enrollment, between August and November of 2018, in an attempt to advise her on what needed to be updated and assist her in resolving the issue. The student attended Miller-Motte College - Cary for one full term, plus one month into her second term, without completing the corrections needed and communicated. She was therefore billed for the tuition accrued during her time of attendance, resulting in the balance owed. We have confirmed that her billing was correct and in alignment with the Enrollment Agreement signed by the Complainant.

I started at miller motte in August 2021 and I think I missed the first week or two because it had already started. I asked to wait until the next time the class started but was told I needed to start now. That's not to mention that when I first contacted miller motte they coerced me and pretty much forced me through all of the documents that needed to be done. I never had a chance to read over anything. After I started school I noticed that I was not receiving the full amount of aid that was shown i was entitled to. I have contacted financial services dozens of times to ask about this and the fact that I didn't authorize or know about loans they were receiving in my name until I was actually emailed from the lender. They have actually falsified my documents so they could receive as much money as they could get there hands on. I found out credits are not transferable and that transcripts are not sent out. Although I only was a student at miller motte for over a month I had seen my fair share of misconduct. Then I found out I didn't even pass the background check to be in the criminal justice program. For only being there a short time I worked really hard at my courses for it to mean exactly nothing. I think I should be reimbursed for my time and hard work I put into this program. I also believe I should be reimbursed everything and all loans and grants should be returned. Also when I first started everybody was so friendly calling everyday but once those documents are signed they become public enemy number one.

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2021/11/03) */ Miller-Motte College - Wilmington has reviewed the student's complaint, and found the following: On 8/24/2021 the student signed an Enrollment Agreement to begin the AAS Criminal Justice - DE program, which began on 8/23/2021, one day prior to the student's enrollment. Students are permitted to begin classes during the drop/add period. The AAS - Criminal Justice - DE program is a 100% online program & attendance is taken via the recording of online academic activity. His first date of recorded attendance was 8/29/2021. He successfully completed his first course with a "B" letter grade, before he was withdrawn from the program, at his request, on 10/13/2021. The student's last day of attendance was 9/30/2021. The Student was allowed to enroll for the program on 8/24/2021 one day after the program began on 8/23/2021, based on Miller-Motte College's attendance policy. This policy is found in the School Catalog, available online via the website at: https://www.miller-motte.edu/consumer-information/. The policy reads as follows: For a student beginning their program version, the equivalent of the first fourteen (14) calendar days are designated as the "drop/add" period. By the end of the drop/add period, each student's schedule must be in place for the remainder of the term. Individual courses dropped during drop/add will not appear on a student's transcript and no tuition will be charged for those courses. Online courses: Attendance for online courses is taken by students logging in and completing work in the online classroom. Students are expected to actively participate in their online courses at least twice per week. Students who do not submit substantive work for their online courses for 14 or more consecutive calendar days may be withdrawn. Regular Attendance in an Online Class is an important contributor to student success in online courses. To comply with federal mandates for school's handling of student aid, certain kinds of student activity may or may not count as participation sufficient to qualify as attendance in online courses. For attendance to be earned, the student must complete at least one of the following academic events: (1) complete a quiz, (2) complete and post an assignment, or (3) post at least once a week to a relevant class discussion board. The Enrollment Agreement, and all other enrollment documents, are completed and signed by the student online, via an enrollment portal. Miller-Motte College staff do not have access to complete these documents for the student. Students are asked to review and sign all documents, and have ample opportunity to read each document prior to the signing process. In addition, upon completion of each enrollment form, a copy of the form is saved to the students enrollment portal and may be printed or electronically reviewed at any time after completion. Should a student decide to withdraw from the program after being enrolled, they have 14 calendar days from the program start date to do so, as stated in the attendance policy shown above. Financial Aid (FA) is available for those who qualify as a means of assistance for paying for educational expenses. FA for qualified students may consist of federal grants and/or loans, which may supplement the student's own contribution toward completing their educational program. All students seeking or applying for financial assistance must meet with a member of the school's FA Office staff to complete the application process. During this process, the staff member provides guidance to the student on how to access the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for completion by the student. The FA Office staff provides the student with any other forms necessary to determine the student's eligibility and complete the application process. It is the student's responsibility to provide all required documents in order to verify eligibility and process the application in a timely manner. It is the responsibility of the student (and the student's parents, if applicable) to complete the FAFSA application; the school does not, and may not, complete this application on their behalf. Students must choose to accept or reject any eligible financial aid awards; the school may not apply awards towards the cost of tuition unless they have first been accepted by the student. School records show that the student's loans were accepted by the student, and were then applied to his tuition. In addition to FA, the student entered into a payment plan with Miller-Motte College to pay for the tuition that would not be covered by his FA award. According to school records, when the school's Financial Services Team reached out to the student to collect on the payment plan, he responded by sending an email stating that he would like to withdraw from the school. Miller-Motte College's Enrollment Agreement and Catalog outline the school's Cancellation and Refund Policy, which is used to determine the amount of institutional charges that the school has earned, and the charges for which the student must pay, based on the student's attendance. For purposes of determining the refund or the amount a student owes for the time attended, the last date of attendance is used. When a student withdraws during his or her payment period or period of enrollment the amount of Title IV program assistance that a student has earned up to that point is determined by a specific formula. The formula ensures that the student is charged only for the courses he attended, from his or her date of enrollment in the course through the last day attended. Miller-Motte College's full Cancellation and Refund policy and Return to Title IV policy can be found in the Miller-Motte College Catalog. Upon review of the student's ledger card and attendance detail, Miller-Motte College - Wilmington found that the student was only charged for the courses taken until his last day of attendance, and his refund calculation was calculated in accordance with the above policies. The student does not have a balance owed to, or refund due from, Miller-Motte College - Wilmington. Miller-Motte College programs are designed to provide the student with vocational career training and are not designed to prepare the student for transfer to other institutions. Acceptance of credits earned at Miller-Motte College - Wilmington is determined solely by the receiving institution. The campus cannot and does not guarantee credit transfer. This policy is also outlined in the Miller-Motte College - Wilmington Catalog. Students wishing to transfer credits should first consult with the Registrar at those institutions concerning acceptance. Miller-Motte College provides official transcripts, for a fee, as well as course descriptions by request. Students with outstanding financial obligations will receive only unofficial transcripts, when requested. A complete record of every course for which a student registers is maintained in an electronic student records system. The record of all credits attempted and earned is posted to this form concurrent with the issuance of term grade reports to students. A record that has been delivered electronically through the secure transcript request website or is printed, sealed and dated constitutes an Official Transcript. One "Issued to Student" Transcript is provided at no charge to the student upon request. Official Transcripts provided to any institution or agency designated by the student will incur a charge of $10.00 each for electronic delivery. Students who have not satisfied their financial obligations to the school are not eligible to receive transcripts. Written authorization by the student is required for the school to release a Transcript to a third party. Transcripts may be requested at www.parchment.com. All students applying for admission are required to undergo a background check. The campus uses an unaffiliated service provider to perform these background checks. The campus may deny admission to a prospective student based on the results of his/her background check, or may deny enrollment into certain programs based on those results. The campus may also dismiss an enrolled student as a result of a criminal conviction during the student's course of study. Employers in many fields also require pre-¬employment background checks of their own. Background check results unsatisfactory to employers in a particular field may limit a student's employment opportunities even if that student has graduated from a program in that field offered by the campus. The student's background check was ordered from the unaffiliated service provider on 8/17/2021. On 8/24/2021, the student's background check results were received with a passing result to enroll in the Criminal Justice program. If the student has any questions or concerns regarding obtaining his transcript, or understanding the amount he was charged for tuition, he is encouraged to contact the Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2021/11/05) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I have called and emailed miller motte dozens of times and have never received a response from anybody. Began attending as an Associates in Medical Assisting student in 2013. I had to take a semester or two off (with the knowledge of school director) and returned again in 2016. I completed all of my credits for graduation and during my externship and review semester I needed to withdraw due to family issues. Again this was discussed with the school. I was told to come and complete when I was able. I was invited to re-enroll this week and I went so far as to fill out and submit my FASFA and get my new student number and email address. I was asked to participate in the returning student orientation only to be told at the end that the school will not allow me to re-enter and receive my degree that has left me in 40,000.00 worth of student loan debt. No appeal was offered. Just was told they were sorry. Now I cannot graduate, and I have no student loan opportunities to begin from the beginning with another school.

      Business response

      12/02/2021

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2021/09/29) */ Miller-Motte College in Raleigh, NC has reviewed the complainant's concerns and has found the following: -Student originally enrolled in 2012, and dropped with a NSLDS date of 12/19/2012 -Student re-entered in January 2014 and dropped again in August 2014 -Student re-entered for a second time in January 2016 and dropped in October 2016 -Student re-applied for re-admission for a third time in September 2021, 9 years after first starting the program in 2012 As the student's third request for re-enrollment was submitted a day prior to new student orientation, the student was allowed to sit in orientation while her file was reviewed, with the understanding that she would still be required to go through the re-entry and financial aid process. During the review of the student's file, the school found that this would be the student's third time re-entering the program, which, per the school's policy, results in denied admission by default. The student is able to work with the campus to submit an appeal to this decision. An appeal requires that the student complete a SmarterMeasure assessment with a minimum score of 70 and submit a written appeal and accompanying documentation to the campus Executive Director, who will then submit this documentation to be evaluated by the Enrollment Committee. The Enrollment Committee meets bi-weekly to review appeals. The campus cannot make this decision without Enrollment Committee approval, and cannot overturn the decision which the committee makes regarding permitting a student to re-enter a third time. During the student's three (3) enrollments, she was charged only for the courses she enrolled in and attended. The student is encouraged to contact a Financial Services Officer at Miller-Motte College - Raleigh, who will be able to review her ledger card with her and work with her to understand the charges for courses taken. The student does not have a balance owed directly to the school; she should contact her student loan servicer for information on any additional interest charges or fees that may have been added to her student loan balance since her withdrawal from Miller-Motte College - Raleigh. Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2021/10/01) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I was not aware of the appeals process or any offer to do anything. I requested my transcripts after being told I could not attend and was told via email they would be sent. I still haven't received them. The school when I was in attendance was under Delta EDU who has since closed the business due to losing Federal acknowledgment. My personal agreement and credits were with Delta EDU and not the company that MMC uses now. I have since filed a complaint with FED Loan services concerning this matter. When I enrolled I was earning an Associates in Medical Assisting (per my fed loan account) and the school no longer offers this as it is a certificate program at this time. I believe MMC honestly does not know how to handle my particular case as I have already earned all 96 credit hours for my Associates degree and therefore they are projecting their inability to rectify this situation as somehow this being the fault of me, the student. Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2021/10/06) */ Miller-Motte College - Raleigh was owned by Delta Career Education during each of the student's three periods of attendance. The school was acquired by STVT-AAI Education Inc. in January 2018. The Miller-Motte College - Raleigh campus no longer offers a Medical Assisting associate degree but it does offer a Medical Clinical Assistant diploma. As explained initially in the complaint response, given that this would be the third time this student is seeking re-entry, the student is required to submit an appeal which includes completing a SmarterMeasure assessment with a minimum score of 70 and submitting a written appeal and accompanying documentation to the campus Executive Director, who will then submit this documentation to be evaluated by the Enrollment Committee for re-entry. Miller-Motte College - Raleigh spoke with the student on 10/1/2021 regarding her transcript request, and the student confirmed receipt of her transcript on the same date. MMC - Raleigh has also evaluated the student's transcript and found that 96 credit hours were completed; however, the student was required to take a math foundations course which brought her total credits needed to graduate from 96 to 100. In addition, it appears that the student elected to take two sociology courses, GS210: Principles of Sociology and SOC1103: Introduction to Sociology, which resulted in 96 credit hours being earned, but only 92 credit hours counting towards the courses required for graduation. Prior to her third withdrawal from the program in 2016, the student was enrolled in MA250: Externship and MA225: Medical Review (totaling 8 credits), which were the last two courses she would have needed at that time to graduate. However, she withdrew from these courses on 10/27/2016, prior to completion. If the student would like to appeal the denial for re-entry into the Medical Clinical Assistant diploma program, she is encouraged to contact the campus to initiate the process. Please note that the submission of an appeal does not guarantee admission will be granted, as the final decision is made by the Enrollment Committee.

I had completed an online Health Administration course with Miller Motte College from 2016-2018. I paid for my course using student loans and a Army Emergency Relief scholarships the entire time I was in enrolled in the program. I completed the program and received my degree. I was never notified that I had an outstanding balance with the school until about two years later graduating trying to request my transcripts to attend another college. I had never received any correspondence from the school notifying of any outstanding balance. Shortly, after requesting the transcript the outstanding balance of over $7,000 was placed on my credit report. Just recently my credit reports now shows a outstanding balance of over $5,000 owe to the school. Which is still incorrect. Not, only are they over charging me for a program they pretend that they are helped with job placement. They used my current job to make seem as if they found employment for me after completing the program. Its a rip off.

      10/05/2021

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/08/23) */ Miller-Motte College - Wilmington (Online) has reviewed the students file and found the following to be true: The student's account indicates that she has a balance owed to the school. This balance is the result of an incorrect Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) being initially calculated based on the income information reported by the student on her FAFSA application. This resulted in the student being awarded a federal Pell Grant that, based on her actual income, she was ineligible to receive. During the financial aid verification process, it was found that the student's Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) was greater than what the student reported on the FAFSA application, resulting in corrections being made to the student's Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR). These corrections raised her EFC to a level which made her ineligible to receive a federal Pell Grant. After the corrections were made, the school returned the funding she was ineligible to receive resulting in the balance owed on the student's account. On March 27, 2019 the student was made aware of the balance on her account. She spoke to a school representative who explained the balance to her, and advised her that the school would be unable to release her transcript until the balance was satisfied. The student's balance has since been sold to ********* ******, and **********/***. The company's contact information is below. ********** ******** ********* **** * ******* **** *** *** *********** ** XXXXX XXX-XXX-XXXX As an additional note, it is no longer Miller-Motte College's policy to retain transcripts due to a balance owed to the school. Based on Miller-Motte College's updated policy related to releasing transcripts, the school will release the student's transcript even if a balance is owed. The student may request a copy of her transcript via Parchment, at https://www.parchment.com/u/registration/XXXXX/account The student was recorded as being employed due to career advancement. Her employment was verified via a third party verification provider, Auxicent, in May 2018. The school does note that the student was employed with this employer prior to graduating, but was considered as a career advancement placement as the student and/or employer verified that the training she received at the school was needed to either maintain her current employment or qualify for employment advancement.

I have continued to go to this school till recent and have not received any kind of assistance from anyone on this matter. I have also ask repeatedly for assitance from the student advisor who continues to tell me thats not her responsibility. Then when there are issues with the classes I get the same response from the student advisor. When I contact the instructors I continue to get told that if i need class assistance i need to contact a tutor. I have been told repeatedly by the student advisor that her supervisor will contact me and not one has contacted me. I expected an education with assistance when I ask for it and nothing. The only time I get any communication is when they need money. This school has continued to be about filing for loans and grants without me getting anything in return.

I have been dealing with this issue since 2013. I was attending Miller-motte and I withdrew from the school in the appropriate time so that way i wouldn't still owe for those classes. I was still charged and was told something about the loans were returned but I was already going to another school which the loans were paying for. I have 64 credits with Miller-motte and I need those credits. I don't feel I should've been charged for those classes if I withdrew in the appropriate time frame. I have since filed bankruptcy that Miller-motte was on because it was sent to collections. I am simply trying to see how to correct this issue and receive my credits.

Business Response /* (1000, 13, 2021/06/16) */ This complaint was made to the Miller-Motte College campus in Macon, GA, which the complainant did not attend. Our records show that the complainant attended the MMC - Wilmington - Online campus. If the complainant attempted to request her transcript from the incorrect campus, the request would have been cancelled and a correct link provided to her for re-requesting, which appears to be what occurred in this situation. Please note that the correct link to request a transcript for the MMC - Wilmington online campus is: http://www.parchment.com/u/registration/10752/account Also, please note that when requesting the transcript, the name used when attending school must be provided. A search of the complainant's name as listed on this complaint does not match that of any former student, but the school was able to locate a file for a student matching the name on her email address. Not providing the name used while in school may also create delays in processing the transcript request. Should the complainant have any difficulties with requesting a copy of her transcript via the above link, and when providing her name as it was listed when she attended the school, she may contact the MMC - Wilmington campus for assistance. Consumer Response /* (3000, 15, 2021/06/17) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I don't accept the response. I tried the link it says page not found. Then I did put in request with the Wilmington campus with my maiden name which is Wright and I was told about a balance that I shouldn't have. This has been the same circle I have been going into for years and I am just ready to get my credits and be done with it. Business Response /* (4000, 17, 2021/06/25) */ The Executive Director of the MMC - Wilmington campus has confirmed that there are no holds on Ms. *******'s (formerly Wright) transcript and has attempted to reach Ms. ******* both at the phone number and email address on file to offer his assistance in requesting her transcript via Parchment. We have confirmed that the Parchment link provided in our last response is correct and will direct Ms. ******* to the correct webpage to complete her transcript request. The link may need to be copied and pasted into the browser if clicking on the link fails to bring up the website. Sharing the Parchment link again for reference: https://www.parchment.com/u/registration/XXXXX/account
