I went to visit family out of town and stopped at a ******** to get food and I was in there for maybe a maximum of 10 minutes. I came out to notice that my car was gone. It seems like these guys are waiting/targeting specific people. I parked my car at the same time as 2 or 3 people just to come out and their cars were still there and they were still inside of ********. It seems they were also out of town because they did not have Missouri plates just like me. This is also sketchy and possibly illegal if I’m not wrong. The person I spoke to on the phone doesn’t even work at the place or on site at the office. They don’t take any cards or other forms of payment other than cash only. How do they pay taxes? Also the impound fee says $400 but somehow I was asked to pay less. Something is very fishy here and I’m not happy at all with how these things were handled. I feel like they are exploiting and targeting people out of town at this business because they know we will not leave our cars in a different state.

      **** *******,

There is a lot to unpack in your complaint. First of all you said nothing about this during our phone conversations.  Our office is staffed and you were told up front everything needed to get the vehicle released. It should not matter if I'm in the office or not.

You were parked on the Midtown lot, not the ******** lot.  Midtown apartments lot is private and tenants pay for the parking. There are 12 signs on that lot, and our signs state "warning, no parking" in red lettering.  Above all of our signs is a Midtown sign that states "tenants only".  Each tenant has a parking tag so those would not be bothered, regardless of where the plates are registered.    You were not targeted as we impounded other vehicles on the same lot.

With ********, *********, and ****** in the same area, parking is very tight and people have a tendency to park where it's easier and more convenient for them, while having no concern for the apartment complex parking.

We make a couple of trips a day through the lot, so if you have parked there before and not been towed, that is the explanation of why you were towed.  It's a timing issue only.  We have had people say they've parked there several times and not been towed and they receive the same explanation.

I explained the fees being less because we understand that the economy is not the best and we try to make things as easy as possible.  And obviously you would have complained more about $400 than the $350.

What this complaint will do is to stop trying to be considerate and charge what we're registered and what's on our signs.  The old saying "No good deed goes unpunished" applies.

There is nothing "fishy" about us, we follow the rules and pay our taxes.  Everything we do goes to a police department and is tracked.  Being a "cash only" business does not mean someone is doing something illegal.   It's our choice to not take credit cards, or have an ATM available onsite.  We would be accused of making money on that also.

No one was waving you onto the lot and saying "park here".  That was your choice, as it was to ignore red/white and black signs stating WARNING / NO PARKING.

We have no intention of giving a refund.

Wish you well and hope you have a good holiday season.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because, I did complain and all I got was I’ll do 350 and I even told the person when I got there that I was just in town and stopped to get some food. I have never been to that place before so I wouldn’t know or have know.

      Sincerely,

By the receipt you can see that the fee was reduced to $350.00 and at the time I was talking to you, I stated "we are registered for more but do not charge that, because we understand that the economy isn't the best".   There was no further conversation past that of price.

For your statement about telling me that you are not from here and/or this is the first time here.

That area is extremely busy at all times during the day.

I understand your frustration, and your statement may be true. That is a college area so there are tags with a variety of out of state tags.

We DO NOT target anyone and as I stated in the previous response, you were not the only vehicle impounded on that day.  You were not singled out, regardless of how you feel about this encounter.

All states have some type of private towing/impound laws and companies. Missouri is not unique in that area.

We never meet anyone having a good day.

The impound was correct.  You are not a tenant of Midtown Apartments, you did not have a parking tag, did not park in a visitors spot, nor were you visiting someone in that apartment building.

You were parked in the Midtown apartments parking lot, close to ******** so you could grab food there.

No refund will be issued. .
