Attempt to deposit a Stop Payment check.A person representing Elite Finisher, Inc. attempted to deposit and collect $1700.00 from my checking account for a check which was supposedly lost one year ago.On January 20, 2022, I reissued a check for work performed. This check was reissued, less stop payment cost, because I was told the original check was lost. The check was written to the person representing Elite Finisher as requested. The replacement check was processed by the person who received the reissued check.On January 9, 2023, I was checking my bank account and noticed that the stop payment check for $1700.00 was a pending withdrawal to my account. I immediately called my bank and had a new stop payment issued. I was successful in stopping the pending withdrawal. If I wouldn't have checked my account on January 9th, the $1700.00 would have been withdrawn from my account by the person representing Elite Finsher, Inc.Was this a mistake made by the person representing Elite Finisher or was this a definite attempt to obtain an extra $1700.00? I will never know. Stop payment checks can be processed after the stop payment period has passed. Since the stop payment period was past for my $1700.00, the bank would have withdrawn the $1700.00 from my account. I then would have had very little recourse in recovering my money.I should have only written a check to Elite Finisher, Inc. and not to the person representing Elite Finisher. ****** Learned. Hopefully this experience don't happen to you if you do business with Elite Finisher, Inc.
