      Dear *******,

Per your BBB complaint #******** regarding the vehicle you purchased from CarHop on 12/15/16, and the Retail Installment Contract assigned to Universal Acceptance Corporation (MN) d.b.a. CarHop Finance.  The vehicle included an 18 month / 18,000-mile limited warranty.

Since you purchased the vehicle, CarHop and CarHop Finance records list no contact from you regarding any vehicle concerns and no receipt of any vehicle diagnosis or repair estimate during the 18 month limited warranty period.  If you had vehicle concerns, you did not inform CarHop.  Therefore, CarHop honored the limited warranty.

Records indicate you had numerous conversations with CarHop Finance about car payments between December 2016 and November 2017.  As a courtesy, CarHop Finance offered you multiple payment modifications and payment plans to assist you during that period.

The last payment CarHop received from you was on 11/15/17, leaving a remaining balance due on your Retail Installment Sales Contract.  The vehicle was charged off due to lack of payment on 03/07/18.

Over six years later, on 08/29/24, you called CarHop and requested the lien release.

On 08/30/24, you spoke with *******************************, CarHop Finance Manager.  While under no obligation to do so, ********* offered a resolution where you pay a reduced settlement amount of $500 in order to receive the lien release.  You stated you are satisfied with this outcome.

Please coordinate the final steps of the settlement directly with *********.  Thank you for doing business with CarHop.

      Sincerely,

      *******************

The above business has engaged in ILLEGAL action by garnishing my wages without going through the proper channels. My family receives public assistance therefore making me legally uncollectible via garnishments. They have not responded to cease and desist emails, letters, and phone calls. My employer states that they are ordered to keep deducting my wages until they get a notice from them to stop. They must immediately stop the garnishment and refund me all the monies they have collected so far.

      Hi ******

Thank you for forwarding complaint #******** from *******************,**** purchased the vehicle from CarHop on 03/11/17, the contract was later assigned to Universal Acceptance Corporation (**) d.b.a. CarHop Finance. The purchase included both a seven-day money back guarantee and an 18 month /18,000-mile limited warranty.

Our records indicate that **** voluntarily surrendered the vehicle on August 23, 2018. The vehicle was sold at auction, leaving a deficiency balance due of $5328.87. This balance was charged off for non-payment on September 26, 2018. In October 2018 the debt was sold to Autovest, LLC.

Upon receiving this complaint, ***************************, a Finance Manager in *********, was able to email **** and explain the above and that CarHop Finance does not garnish wages.  We provided **** with the contact information for Autovest, LLC *************) so he can discuss his debt with them.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

This business is a loan company. It is the company used by CarHop auto sales in *********** **. On 7/9 my van was totaled by my insurance company. On 7/25 UA and I received payment from the insurance claim. On 8/2 they cashed said check. Today 8/4 UA took a auto payment out of my account. When called they said they never received payment nor a end of payment request I made on 7/15. UA took a payoff and an additional $462 from myself and my insurance company. I feel this is theft and extremely poor business practice. I'm sure I'm not the only customer this has happened to and if they are not fined or reprimanded in some fashion. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

This is a formal complaint against UNIVERSAL ACCEPTANCE/CAR located in *******, **. This company has repeatedly violated my consumer rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and has caused me much unnecessary financial AND mental distress. For starters, they're reporting an erroneous & unverifiable account on my credit report and not to mention an account in which I've asked for proof of claim and in which they have not been able to provide, per the ***** Despite my efforts to resolve this unfortunate nightmare for several months now, UNIVERSAL ACCEPTANCE/CAR has completely ignored my communications and legal submissions to remove this inaccurate information from my credit report. I am well aware of the many, many other complaints filed against this company for their illegal and unethical business. Yet, somehow, this company is still in business. This company's unprofessional & negligent behavior has caused lots of serious harm, not only to my ability to establish credit & good interest rates, but also to my character as a Professional and as an individual. Please help me, and the many other consumers just like me, to put a stop to the operation of these unethical & immoral business practices immediately. I sincerely appreciate your time and assistance in this matter and hope to hear from you very soon. As previously stated, this credit reporting agency is reporting erroneous, derogatory information about me to which is killing my credit & my Professional image. They've refused to send any proof of their claim because they have none since this account has never even existed. Therefore, my only wish is to have them permanently remove the inaccuracies that Ive disputed from my credit file immediately.

We received a letter in mail stating we owed a debt that we never had back in ****. I spoke with representative from ********************* and told them this was not our account and the guy laughed at me. I asked why after 21 yrs they are just now contacting us, he stated the business went out of business and they just bought it. It has NEVER showed on our credit report.

      Dear ********************,

Thank you for forwarding the complaint from **************.  I have researched the topic with Universal Acceptance Corp (dba CarHop Finance) and CarHop Auto Sales.

At this time, we cannot identify a customer account which matches any of the information ************** provided.  This includes no matches to name, email address, mailing address or phone number.  We are not aware of any business relations with ************************* and we had no auto dealerships in ******* in 2001.  Therefore, we also have no record of sending ************** any letters and no record of any debt in his name.

Based upon these findings it appears **************** complaint would be best directed to a different company.  If ************** has any document(s) which specifically list Universal Acceptance Corp (dba CarHop Finance) or CarHop Auto Sales in connection to his complaint, I ask that he send the documentation to me in order for me to research this any further.

Please contact me with any questions.

      Sincerely,

We have had a car with your company previously and paid it off in 2018. Then my husband got a car from you in 2019. Mind you it wasn't even a vehicle we wanted but the woman at Car Hop kept pushing to the point it made us uncomfortable and we went with it. The car had engine problems the first month we got it. And then it ended up getting totaled in an accident a month and a half later. Car Hop told us they would resell it and take it off of our report because we were previous customers and we always paid. Sounds great right?! Come to find out you have been reporting to his credit bureau even though you closed the account. We called after finding this out and the woman demanded 4,500 up front or else we had to pay the full price. We said we would pay 100 a week to get it to 4,500 over the next 6 months. Guess what you guys did? Took our information and haven't pulled out the money that you guys seem to need so badly. I find it extremely crazy that you have closed my husbands account but continuously report to the credit bureau as if the account is still open. Then when we try and pay you guys you take our banking information and STILL don't take the payments out like you were supposed to. You have our checking and routing number and still won't take our payments out? So do you run your business to ruin peoples lives? Because that is what it looks like at this point. We literally can not get a home for ourselves because he makes the most money and you guys stay destroying his credit report. FIX IT!
