On 4/22/23 I purchased a 2022 vehicle from Apple Ford in Apple Valley MN. On the invoice it listed a pulsating brake light for $349. I asked them to remove the pulsating light system due to legal issues and liability due to MN statute on altering brake lights. He agreed to do it. On 4/25/23, I was following my wife home when I noticed the pulsating brake light. Being after 7 pm, I sent an email to the email address the salesman had sent to me. He phoned me back quickly and gave me heck for not calling but using the email that others must see. I explained the issue with the pulsating brake light and he told me it was legal and their legal said it was. But he would have his manager call me. A few minutes later the dealership sales manager called me back and told me if I wanted it out I would need to bring it to them. I explained it was over 200 miles back to the dealer and I said that was not an option. I explained the altering brake light is not legal for state or Fed DOT. He then told me his legal team said it was good, that was it and he was not going to help. I told him I asked to have it removed when purchased and was told it would be removed. I said I cannot hold liability for something like this and i just wanted it out. I asked who put it in for my coverage. He said the dealership directed it and they put them in every car and truck. MN statute 169.57 sb div 4 covers no alteration of stop lamps prohibited. Federal regs also cover this. I should not be forced to drive a vehicle that has had safety features removed or altered and take risk of injury or death of my family or other public travelers just so a dealership can make more money or save by alterations. I also should not be forced to accept extended liability and exposure to legal issues for such alteration of required safety features.

       Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 19983136, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. When we have an open chance we will go to the dealership to have it removed. The hours they are open are the hours we also work so it may take some time to get in.
