I joined Mass Match, a dating service, in June 2023 after hearing advertisements for this company on ****, a local radio station. At the time, the advertisement said this company services eastern NY where I live. After I joined (~$200), the advertisement changed to say MM services western Mass. I reached out to Lanie D****** on 8/8/23 to ask for a refund. Her email response said that I was "wrong" and the radio station must have played the wrong add. I heard the same add on WAMC today, 11/2/23 at 5:05am. Additionally, Ms. D***** initially sent me a handful of potential matches that live out of state but then nothing after I asked for a refund for false advertising. Had she provided the service I paid her to provide, I would not be contacting the BBB. After paying for MM, Ms. D********* misplaced some notes she took on me and without my prompting, sent me a refund for $50. I am asking that she refund the difference, ($150) and stop false advertising her business in the capital district.Business response

I get many clients from *****'s area through that ad in her area and no one has ever complained about false advertising. During our phone conversation she even told me she could move after a year if she met the right person. Many of my clients have moved to be with someone as I did when I was her age. The best person alas might not be next door.Many people will drive, many won't. I don't clock people out and I was certainly hoping that soon someone would join who lived closer to her and would be a good fit. It happens so often....it just can take a lot of time.
That being said, lovely as she is, we are not a good fit and I plan to refund her money.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me once my fee is refunded.I joined Mass Match to meet a partner in my area. I met one potential match in 6 months of using Mass Match's "services". After hearing the false advertising on NPR, I reviewed other recent online reviews of this business and found similar complaints. Although refunding my fees resolves this issue for me, I would encourage Lanie to stop advertising in the capital district until such time as she can actually deliver on the services people pay her to provide.
