This post is a warning about doing business with Northeastern Flooring Services,. In October we contacted company through Thumb Tack to install a new solid wood floor in our condo. Rep made a favorable impression and provided an acceptable estimate. We gave company a $500 down-payment, removed our furniture for what was promised would be a four-day job, and made (for the first of multiple times) alternate living arrangements. Company then informed us-- after it had our money--that the actual cost of flooring was $900 more than stated in the estimate and told us to buy the wood ourselves from a prescribed source. We protested the inaccuracy of the estimate and company promised to split the differential with us. We bought the wood, and were assured that work work start three days after the wood was delivered. Company then cancelled the night before the scheduled time. This pattern continued for six weeks: cancellation, excuses and unfulfilled promises. Eventually, rep said company would start but reneged on the cost-split promise and demanded more money for basic materials before starting. We then told company that we had lost all confidence in it and expected that it return our Venmo down-payment. At first, rep claimed company had no money and begged for the work. We set a final deadline, which was missed. But after more pressure on our part, rep wrote that it would return the money after Christmas. Rep reneged on this commitment as well. We then informed company that we would take action with Venmo and Thumb Tack, and the response was to threaten us if we did so and to mock our situation. In short, company did no work except taking our money and threaten us. Not reliable.
