Arnett performed a construction job on our property. We failed the inspection because they did not put vents in the soffit. I tried to get them to come back to make it right, but they kept saying they'd get back to me, and now have ignored my calls. I've contacted them over thirty timesthe office, the project manager, the website form, the main email, the owner's cell phone. And no one has spoken with me about how they will make it right, even though they have time to send salesmen to my door doing cold calls to drum up business.

      Business response

      08/01/2023

The homeowner and Arnett Construction agreed on the scope of work to be performed by Arnett to the dormer addition the h/o was building. H/o signed that scope. (attached) Work was completed 8/31/2022. H/o did not reach back out until late March of 2023. We informed him we completed the work as agreed upon, and if he would like for us to give him an estimate for the additional work we would. He was not happy with that response and continued to call our office, salesman and production manager threatening to leave bad reviews on social media. We have cut all communication and wish to do no further work for this homeowner.

      Customer response

      08/01/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

In addition to documenting how they're misrepresenting the situation below (with pictures of correspondence attached), I am updating my request. Since they clearly will not come back to make this right, all I'm asking is for them to provide the supplier and product number such that when I have someone else do the repair, I can get vented soffit pieces of the same size, profile, and color.

      1. They are not mentioning that I failed my inspection. When a contractor does not perform work up to code, and the inspector writes a correction, it is the contractor's responsibility to make the repair. On the phone in March, *********************** said the only way Arnett would come back on their own dime is if the inspector puts a correction in writing. In May, the inspector did. I repeatedly referred to this in my correspondence (see files #1, 2, 4).

      2. After we failed the inspection, they never once offered to write an estimate to come back. Nor did they reject the need to come back. They either ignored me, said they'd get back to me later, or told me to talk to someone else (see files #1, 2, 3, 4). They told me the owner would deal with this, but after I left six voicemails and texted him over three weeks and called the office asking ***** to ask him to call me and overheard *********************** at my door (see more below) on the phone with ******* asking him to call me, ******* never contacted me.

      3. I never threatened to leave a bad review on social media (or even mentioned "social media"). In fact, I repeatedly (5/22, 6/1, 7/11) offered to *****, *******, and the office to write "a very positive review" once they came back to fix the repair so that I could close out my permit (see files #1, 2, 4)

      4. They say they have cut off communication and do not want to work with me. But they sent salesmen to my door on 7/21/2023 and 7/25/2023 trying to drum up business (see file #5). On the first visit, *********************** gave me his card and said, "I won't ignore you."

If Arnett sends me the supplier and product number, I will drop this and move on with my life.

The permit h/o attached is not the permit Arnett Construction pulled for the work we performed at this address. Ours was permit #********. (attached) We completed the work per h/o's request and as agreed to by our contract and signed scope of work.

Materials were purchased at ******** Building Supply. There are multiple types of vented soffit to choose from.

      Customer response

      08/09/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

      1. I contacted the building department, and they said you never called in your inspection for that permit: "There is a permit number for your address under Arnett and ************** for siding, soffit and fascia. They would be responsible to meeting code requirements for the scope of work under their permit. It was never inspected because they never called for inspection of that work with that permit number. It was inspected under your permit number as part of your final inspection." Please call in your inspection.

      2. I am aware there are different types of soffit panels. I want to know which particular materials you ordered so that when I replace some but not all of them with vented panels they will be of the same profile and color.

      Business response

      08/15/2023

As mentioned in the previous response, ******** Building Supply is our supplier. They have your info, and previous orders. You will have to call them and order what you would like to install on your home. There are multiple types of venting options for vented soffit. All of them will interlock with each other.

      Customer response

      08/15/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

      1. I called ******** Supply, both ************* and **********, and they said they have no record of any orders from Arnett associated with my name and address.

      2. Did you call in the inspection for your permit?

We have tried to remedy this issue without luck. Arnett Construction will not be communicating with this h/o any longer.

We hired Arnett roofing in the summer of 2022 to do an insurance claim based roof replacement. We met with the salesman and after two adjusters, the roof was approved. We were given the insurance money around the end of July/early August. We were planning a wedding so we could not afford the 1k deductible until after the wedding so the initial payment of **** (**** insurance money and 1k of our money for the deductible) was paid on 10/19/22. We transferred the money out of savings and into checking on 9/28/22 because we were told they would be drafting the payment but it didn't get taken out until 10/19/22. I have proof of all of this. The color packet they provided for roofing colors had no options of a light tan, which is what I wanted. I texted a picture to the salesman of what I was looking for and he told me which color to pick based off of that. When they installed the roof, it was not anywhere close to the color I wanted. I expressed this to the salesman via text, which I also have proof of. During the discussion of what insurance was allowing, it was discovered that the facia was not covered 100% so we decided not to do that. The salesman called my husband back and said the owner said 'it was on him' so we proceeded. After all was said and done, the siding above the garage is crooked and they are saying we actually do owe them an additional 1k even though I have an invoice saying 'paid in full'. We said we would settle up with them if they fixed the crooked siding and they refused and have been posting about ** on their personal social media accounts. I have screenshots of all conversations and all posts from the girlfriend of the owner. As a company, it is EXTREMELY unprofessional to post ** BY NAME on her personal ******** account, along with the remaining balance and claiming we spent the insurance money on the wedding.

On 6/30/2022, the homeowner was referred to us by another customer located in **************. Our salesman **** reached out to the homeowner to schedule the first inspection.
On 8/1/2022 h/o contacted **** to let him know they had received the insurance checks for the roof and siding for the home at ***********************************************. Once **** received the insurance estimate it was noticed they did not cover the entire roof, just a few roof components were on the estimate. **** reached out to the insurance adjuster to have the estimate updated to show full roof replacement.
On 8/5/2022 salesman left samples at the home
On 8/06/2022 h/o contacted the salesman to ask if we could waive their deductible since "they were giving us a $16k sale"
On 8/10/2022 h/o reached out to let ** know they had the insurance check but they needed to wait for the husband's profit sharing check to pay their deductible. Our company's policy is that jobs do not go into production until the first insurance check and deductible is paid upfront.
On 8/15/2022 homeowners contacted our salesman **** and stated they would like to hold off on the job until after their wedding and honeymoon.--Job was placed on hold.
On 9/27/2022 h/o asked the salesman if they could pay half the insurance money that week and half the following, it was reiterated that that's not our company's policy and the job was not placed into production.
On 10/10/2022 the salesman went back to the address to get exact siding measurements and to get the job moving.
On 10/17/2022 we received a signed credit card authorization for the deductible and first insurance check. (signed form in attachments)
On 10/19/2022 the job was approved for production credit card was ran for payment.
On 11/11/2022 roof was installed and the husband reached out to **** and let him know he liked the roof but the wife was unhappy with the color. Samples for our shingle colors were dropped off August 3rd, 2022 for the h/o to review, and a color sheet was signed stating that they agreed to Biscayne which is what was installed. (photo of sample in attachments)
Siding was put on hold due to cold weather.
On 1/12/2023 our production team reached out to h/o to schedule siding.
1/17/2023 siding was installed on the garage and h/o stopped the job stating they wanted it installed vertically. We immediately removed what was up and reinstalled it vertically per h/o request.
During installation there was rotted wood uncovered, per code we have to install to a "nailable" surface. ************** notified the husband to make him aware of the additional charges per foot replaced, and he agreed to have it replaced.
On 1/19/2023 the job was moved to "completed".  The invoice had not yet been updated to match the jobsite's packet to show the additional work. H/o paid the original remaining balance.
On 1/20/2023 it was noticed and we reached back out to the h/o's and they told us they wouldn't be paying it since it was our mistake.
On 1/31/2022 a Mechanic's Lien was placed on the property for the remaining balance of $1,017.35
On 4/14/2023 before the account was sent to a collection company, we reached back out again for payment. The wife stated that she spoke to the owner and that he told her she did not have to pay the remaining balance. We let her know that was untrue, and that the account would be sent to collections.
Arnett Construction completed no work on this project that was not agreed to beforehand between us and the homeowner. It is with confidence the work completed is beyond satisfactory based on the prior condition of the dwelling.

      Customer response

      05/23/2023

I am rejecting this response because:
I made it very clear to the business and the attorney representing the business that we would pay our balance once the siding was fixed.  The first week we received the 'updated invoice', we told them that the business owner told our salesman that the fascia was 'on him'.  Whether a miscommunication on what exactly was 'on him' or not, these words were said.  The night they finished I noticed the siding was uneven, but because we had already paid them in full I had no leverage and did not want to bother with fighting them to fix it.  I have proof of this because I texted my husband about it.  They put a lien on our house 12 days after the job was completed.  I texted the ******* of the job AND the owner of the company regarding the uneven siding. The ******* I texted on 1/26 and ******* Arnett I texted on 1/30.  Neither one of them responded.  I have screenshots with time stamps if you need them.  I called their attorney on 2/14 and spoke with him about paying the balance if they fix the siding.  He said he would reach out to them and get back to me.  I called the attorney EVERY WEEK until the week of 4/14 and when he still did not return my call, the receptionist at the law office told me to try calling arnett directly.  I called Arnett around 8:45 am on 4/14 and spoke with ****** (Owner's fiance).  She told me she was not speaking to me and that the only reason she would talk to me is if I was 'making a payment'.  She then told me she didn't have to supply me with a copy of the "scope of work" showing that we owe more money.  I asked for this because my husband signed something that had no pricing on it, so we assumed that the fascia would be 'on them' as he stated.  She was extremely rude and unprofessional on the phone.  Fast forward to Thursday 5/18/23, she shared a post of mine on ******** where I was asking my friends if they thought the siding was crooked.  I did not mention the business by name.  She proceeded in that post claiming our cars were getting repossessed and in the comments started spreading lies and making fun of **.  I have never in my life witnessed such unprofessionalism and classlessness in a business.  I had multiple people contact me and say they would never work with them because of how they carried themselves in that comment thread.  You only allowed me to attach 5 pictures but I have the entire post if you need it.  This is NOT the behavior of an A+ bbb rating.  She even bragged about how the BBB loves them and you guys would 'close the case' regardless of what I say.

If you notice in their attachments, there are things blocked out by the company. If they were truly transparent, wouldnt those papers be completely visible??  And note the date my husband signed the credit slip is also blacked out. Thats because he signed it on a way earlier date than they claim. Please note that in the file. Id like to see all the areas they blacked out. Thank you.

      Customer response

      05/24/2023

I opened it on my computer and was able to see!  Under the note on 4/14, it says we agreed to the extra work (meaning the rotted wood) and they are right, we did. And we paid for the rotted wood. The original balance on the contract was for ******. We paid them ****** which accounted for the extra 400 in rotted would. The leftover balance of **** they are claiming we owe is for the fascia. Which was added a week after we were paid in full.  I told them I was not paying anything else until they fixed the crooked siding on the garage and they refused. Which is why we are where we are. They also sent ** to collections on 4/14 after the rude phone call with ****** took place.

Side note on the vertical siding. We had told our salesman from the beginning we wanted vertical siding because that was what we started with. We even have texts between the salesman and my husband where he is verifying that we wanted vertical. Arnett came with horizontal siding and claimed the salesman never told them. So they ordered the wrong material. Instead of ordering the right material, they just installed the horizontal siding vertical and claimed it would be fine. We were worried about water getting in the cracks because that siding is not designed to be vertical. We have since been told by two roofing companies that that should not have been done and the wood will now rot underneath.

      Business response

      05/30/2023

Per h/o's previous response, they have acknowledged that they owe the remaining balance. However, it seems they are not satisfied with the "crooked siding" on the garage. Attached are before and after photos that show the siding on the structure was not level to begin with. Unfortunately, the only remedy for this issue is to tear off the entire ***** end and replace it, which was not covered by the insurance company or the h/o. The structure is clearly out of square and has settled unevenly over time. We are confident we have gone up and above honoring our signed Scope of Work and completing this project to its best possible condition.

The h/o again mentioned never receiving samples of the products installed, per my previous response, samples were dropped off August 5th. (photo in attachments)

      Customer response

      05/30/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

The siding is absolutely not level. I have already provided before and after pictures of the siding before they installed it and after. I will attach measurements of the far left piece of vertical siding and the far right piece of vertical siding. One is shorter than the other. If it were level, both pieces would be the same length. The after pictures, even provided by arnett, STILL show the difference in how level it was. The before picture shows the VERY RIGHT side all the way at the end slightly elevated. The after pictures, again that THEY provided, clearly show the elevation in the siding starting in the center of the garage. It is not level. We have used a 6 inch level against the siding and it shows its uneven starting from the middle going towards the right.  I also attached texts proving we ordered vertical siding and when I realized it was wrong and texted the *******. The siding pictures I attached measure one end of the right side and one end of the left side. You can clearly see the left side is over 7 inches long and the right end piece is under 6. Not sure how a crooked garage would cause the measuring of siding pieces to be an inch off of each other on the ends.

      Business response

      06/05/2023

As stated in a previous response, the overhang on the ***** end of this garage is sagging. (shown in photos) This issue will cause the entire structure to look out of level, and will also effect the siding differently on both ends.
Due to the preexisting structural issues on this building, it could appear the installation of the siding isnt level if the structure itself is not. Therefore, the only remedy to this issue is to have the entire overhang rebuilt.

      Customer response

      06/05/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

Again. Please explain how the unlevel garage causes DIFFERENT SIZES OF END PIECES ON THE SIDING.  The business is wrong and refuses to admit it. If you look up counter claims of lawsuits, this is not the first time this has happened to them. Again, left side end piece siding is over 7 inches. Right side end piece siding is under 6 inches. If the siding was even, those two pieces would be the same measurement and the garage would be uneven. This has nothing to do with the garage appearing uneven. The measurements DO NOT LIE.

August 2022 roof was replaced. They offered 2 year workmanship warranty. Roof started leaking end of December and the leaks in the roof are getting worse and destroying many things. They refuse to answer phone calls from anyone who tries to help me contact them. They refused to come repair the roof they worked on. My ceilings are damaged, my roof is falling apart and now I have hundreds of dollars worth of diapers for 3 small children destroyed.
