I do not even know how to address how I was treated by this Dental practice so I'll just come out with it. I am HIV+ (undetectable) and I noted this on my new patient information packet. So I did my part in informing the Dentist of my status. The visit was actually really fine, in fact, ****** the Dental Hygienist was awesome and very knowledgeable. It's what happened after the visit that I really have an issue with. The next day I got a call from the Dental Office informing me that one of the Dental Techs poked herself with an instrument used to clean my teeth. They wanted me to go (on my own time) to get tested again. I wasn't sure what the reasoning behind this was because as I stated above I already told them that I was HIV+ (undetectable). I spoke with my Specialist and she informed me getting tested again was unnecessary because that would not change what the nurse would have to do for the post exposure prophylaxis or for monitoring. She said that if I am positive I'm positive and that is all they need to know. I almost feel like I was discriminated against because of my HIV status. I've canceled all subsequent appointments and will not go back to this Dentist. Not once did anyone from the Dental office stop to think how this would make me (their) patient feel. So that leads me to believe again that I was not wanted as a patient there. No one has called to talk to me to reassure me that I am welcome after this whole incident. There is no way I can go back in there and feel welcome after this. I really hope they educate themselves on this issue, their ignorance is appalling.
