11/24/23:My **** system was acting out. My previous **** contractor informed me that my Carrier unit was covered under a class action lawsuit with Carrier through a free warranty repair, and that I should contact Carrier to work with a Carrier certified **** contractor on this repair. I contacted Carrier, and they mentioned that I can either repair the secondary heat exchanger (parts + labor covered by Carrier) or get a discount on a new unit.11/25/23:I contacted Elgin Sheet metal for this warranty repair per Carrier feedback. They set up an appointment for 11/29/23 to take a look at my unit. At no point was any charge for this visit mentioned, either in writing or verbally.11/29:/23:An Elgin Sheet metal technician came to my residence for approximately 5 minutes to verify that my unit was eligible for the warranty repair. He also advised that he could also replace the inducer and the primary heat exchanger -- in effect changing out the engine in an old car in his words. He mentioned that other option was to replace the entire unit at a discounted price per the Carrier lawsuit terms and informed me that the desk clerk would contact me with the pricing options for both options. The technician was professional and knowledgeable. No visit charge was mentioned.I did not hear back from the Elgin sheet metal desk clerk until I finally reached out myself on 12/5/23.12/5/23:Elgin sheet metal desk clerk provided a quote on the warranty repair plus the 2 other items mentioned by the technician. He said that the owner would contact me later on the full **** replacement option. The desk clerk did not mention any charge for the 11/29/23 visit this time either.I never heard back from Elgin Sheet Metal owner on the **** replacement from that point forwards.I then somehow received a surprise bill for over $200 just last month for some reason. The company left me out to dry for the whole winter season and then somehow decided to charge me for nothing. Not acceptable.
