On Saturday, March 5th at approximately 7:30am, I filled up my car at the Mobil gas station located at ***********************************************************************. I included a car wash as it was a nice day and I hoped to avoid the rush. I pulled around and to the car wash entrance and waited as another car had the same idea I had. When it was my turn, I pulled up, entered my code and proceeded into the car wash following the directions to put the car in neutral and keep my hands off the wheel. However, after moving just a bit, I wasn't moving any more. Concerned, I put the car in drive and gave it a little gas to move forward just a bit. I immediately put it back into neutral and felt that I was moving, but only a little. Then nothing. Moments later I heard and felt a loud slam as the car wash door closed on the roof of my car. I couldn't move forward and I couldn't move back so I just honked my horn hoping for some help. Eventually, the kid who worked the station showed up and appeared to be on the phone with the owner. He pressed a button to open the door, but nothing happed. He tried again, still nothing. He said something to the affect of having to get the owner in, but then left me there. Shortly, someone appeared at my window. It was the person who got their car washed before me. They came back to help. He lifted the garage door and helped guide me back out of the entrance. I don't know what would have happened if this good samaritan hadn't returned. The car wash door damaged my car's antenna. It had to be replaced along with the cover. This cost over $1200 and I never got my car washed ($7). I filed a police report, which noted that the owner would review video tapes of the incident, but I never heard the results. My insurance company has been trying to contact the owner, but he doesn't answer the phone or return messages. Under no circumstances should a garage door come crashing down on anything or anyone. There should be safety measures to prevent it like a home garage door.
