I am a licensed Insurance Agent and placed an Annuity with Dearborn for a client. The client has recently passed away. We filed the Death Claim through overnight mail on Jan 29th of this year (2024). The claim was entered in their system on Feb 13th. By March 1st, the claim was approved to be paid but first had to be approved by more senior claims personal due to the size of the contract. I have made repeated calls to Dearborn about 2 per week since mid Feb, repeatedly begin told it is approved but not signed off buy senior claims. I was told this final approval process should take about 7 to 10 day, it is now 30 days! Over the course of these calls, the service reps have been very polite even offering to personally check for update statis and call me back. I have yet to receive a call back. I would suggest that if you are considering using this company, think a little longer and look for another option. One star is generous.Review from Catherine E

My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer December 2022. Been trying to get the claim settled since February 2023. I call them at least once a month. This company is horrible. I am talking to a lawyer now to see what can be done. ********************** with a company that doesn't want to pay you for legit claims. Unfortunately I had to leave one star but they don't deserve any positive feedback.Dearborn Life Insurance Company Response

Worst company I have EVER dealt with!! I have been calling them for going on 5 weeks now, (filed 04/14/2021) trying to get things squared away with my Short *********************. From constant BS from them stating they haven't received the information needed (company emailed it MULTIPLE times to them) to not returning calls checking on the status. I've had there Short *************** Insurance for 10 months, our company switched to them 10 months ago, our prior insurance didn't offer **********. So initially, They wanted to know who our previous ********** carrier was, we explained to them the company didn't have one, that's why we switched carriers. They then asked for a screen shot of our last carriers information showing our policy for **********?? Apparently they don't listen or understand *******!! Then after **** and **** of explaining to them AGAIN, there wasn't a ********** in place, they stated they need medical records from 15 months ago to present otherwise this was going to be considered pre-existing, (FU DEARBORN!!) So, I tried to upload the information to my claim as instructed by them, only it gives an error. So I called them and they gave me EVERY reason why it didn't work, ****** **** MY FAULT!! So, I told them they were as ******** **** as one can possibly be. The speed of my internet is fine, uploads of almost 30MB+, downloads of over 200MB, all files were below 15 MB (Their site gives you an error saying files must be below 25 or 50MB), then they said to many pages? Then, they tell me we signed up for the year waiting period!?! That was BS, *************** and *** said there was no way the company would have done that. They have ** idea as to what they are doing or talking about!!Today (05/17/2021) I called in and was told my "claims analysist" has three days to look over my records. Isn't this why I signed the release of my medical records, so I wouldn't have to gather my records ******?? So they could get the ones they wanted, instead of this messed game they insist on playing?? HOW IS **** ******* ABLE TO DO **** AND STAY IN BUSINESS!?!?!!? **** don't even deserve a star!!
