There was a fire on Jan. 31st, 2022 in my house located in ***********. Right now I'm temporarily living in ********** (Where Nationland office is located, not the one on Madison *** *******) and my insurance paid for 1 year of temporary living on that address. In the meantime Nationland was supposed to rebuilt my home and as of today they haven't even started the job. They already got paid for different things related to the fire and have $185,831.95 to remodel my house but they have done nothing! For the last 3 - 4 months they have been telling me that I will stay in the temp home till my house was finished because it wasn't my fault that they had delayed the job and now they're telling me that I have to get out of the temp house by January 31st, 2023 because my insurance will not pay any longer. They're acting so unprofessional and putting me in a very tight position since I have to pay the mortgage on the burned house and pay the mortgage on the house that I'll be moving into. They are responsible for not having my house done on time, they should pay for not doing anything about my property in one whole year! All they have done is remove drywall and floors... in one whole year. They have had the money for the reconstruction and still haven't started the job. Are they planning on keeping the money my insurance paid to have my house redone? Lately I called, text and email and nobody was getting back to me until yesterday when I emailed them and let them know that I was filing a claim with Better Business Bureau. They all put themselves at my order if I needed anything but nobody mentioned my housing situation or what was going to happen to my living arrangements.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:Nationland Adjusting Company is a corporation divided into different companies in which all take care of the different
areas involved in a fire for example, a company to take care of your clothing, a company to find and furnish a house
for the fire victim, a company to remodel/reconstruct the burned building, in this case called RESCUE but Nationland
is the central office, all owned by the same man, **************************************
Maybe I should've clear out that Rescue wouldn't move one step without Nationland's permission. There was a lot
of situations I wasn't aware of until I read Nationland's reply. Rescue ended cancelling my contract for them to
reconstruct my home, a signed contract just because they felt like it. I emailed everybody I had contact with on
both companies, asking what was going to happen to me now that the insurance was done paying for a place for
me to live in, I mentioned they had a year to work on that project and NOTHING was done. The next day they
cancel my contract, walking out without any kind of penalties or nothing. That contract had CERO value to them.
When they finally agreed to return the money my insurance had paid for the reconstruction of my house, they
kept ONE THIRD of all the monies ($50,000) and when I asked for and itemized bill for the invoices they presented
to me, ********************* (previously *******************************) told me that she will send it the following day. I have asked for
that itemized bill three times and still haven't received anything. On the second paragraph of their exhibit A, it says
that if I choose to work with Nationland's contractor, I would not have to pay for that portion of Nationland's
commission (10%)... I chose Rescue, which is part of Nationland, they cancel my contract when their company Rescue
didn't fulfill their part of the deal and still charge me the 10% of a commission for something that they didn't even
start working on.
There was some money left almost enough to cover one more month of rent ($5,035.00) on my insurance fund and
State Farm representative asked Nationland twice for paperwork to try to get that last month authorized and they
never sent the paperwork State Farm requested. Nationland/Rescue is a company looking to take innocent people's
money and left them in the whole... they do not work to provide all the benefits they offer in their paper work. They
don't care what happens to the victims, all they want is their money. I left the temporary home on January 30th
the company who find the home for me is ************************** owned by ************************************* also, and I've
been asking for my security deposit and till today I haven't received ANYTHING. It's been two weeks of going back and
forth and still haven't received my deposit back. I took pictures of every area of that house, showing that I returned the
house neat and spotless, so they don't have any excuse to return the full amount of my security deposit. It is horrible
for a fire victim to try to ********* and trust that a company will work for you, and all you come to find at the end
is bunch of unprofessionals, lurking into their victims funds trying to find their own financial benefit only
Sincerely,

Complaint: 18831808
I am rejecting this response because: The letter from Nationland Adjusting/ Rescue lawyer is full of lies. The fire happened on February 1st and the lawyer is saying that I hired a contractor not till November??? I had a contractor on day 2 after the fire. He was present on the very first meeting we have with the City of Blue Island Building Inspectors. There was a family emergency that required him to leave the country and we didn't know how long he was going to stay away, so the contractor told me for my own sake it was better to get someone else to do the job, he didn't want to be the cause for delays on my project. I have known the family that owns this contracting company for years, the company name is Done Right.Second, the staff from Rescue started to "act" like they were going to take over the project, and there was always excuses and invented delays... through the whole summer, not till the end of the year I get to sit down with
Rescue's project manager and sign the contract. The November date the lawyer mentions could easily be when Rescue finally sit down with me to sign all the paper work including the financial part of the deal where all the money should go directly to them. Almost a year later and neither of the companies did any kind of reconstructive work in my house so I send an email to everybody involved in the project complaining for their lack of professionalism and calling them to their face that they were liars just taking advantage of people in dispair to get up to the last ***** from them. The next day, they cancelled my contract, as easy as that, but if I would have been the one cancelling on them there would have been penalties, etc. etc. etc.
Third, they said they took my case knowing that it would cost $350,000 to reconstruct my house when they know exactly that my policy covered up to $250,000. They are crooks, not a benefit agency, they would've never took a job where they were going to loose $100,000!!!! they are all about the opposite! they take from you, without giving not even their services in return. It took over a month for them to return the money they had received from my insurance to rebuild my home, and when they did they kept ONE THIRD of the money received. They had $150,000 and they kept $50,000!!! the letter I received explaining the charges was extremely vague, just titles and amounts right next to them. There was one title named "PERMITS" and the charge next to it was around $4,500+ dollars. I asked what permits are you talking about???? Your company didn't apply and obtained but ONE permit for my case because nothing else was done! and that permit costs $100.00 in Blue Island's building department. I asked their worker to give me an itemized invoice, that I wanted to see how do they came up with $50,000 as my bill. I have asked for that itemized invoice 4 times and I'm still waiting to receive it. I went to their office and still I didn't received the itemized invoice. They are thieves, liars and a corporation with no ethical values at all!
Since they never worked on my property, and lied to me saying that I was going to stay on the house my insurance was paying for me to live in, which belongs to them, and telling me that I was going to go directly from their house to my home, not to worry, everything was taken care of. On the month my insurance stopped paying for me to live in that house they kick me out and because of them now I have to pay 2 mortgages, the one for the burned house and the one for the house I'm living in at this moment. People like that cannot keep on going hurting and stealing from innocent people. They have to be stopped.
Sincerely,

We used this company in good faith only to find out that they are not true to their word with the contract that was given. This company has lost items, did cheap work and left with money that they have yet to return to us. This company never answers call made to them about missing property and damaged goods. We will end up taking them to court if this is not resolved. This has been 2 years in the making.
