Discouraging to read these comments....Northwestern....Mass Mutual...New York Life...are Athene competitors....I am currently researching Athene ....they are involved with a $2.6 billion$ dollar lawsuit with ********************************** everywhere for Athene....I will mark Athene off my list....Athene USA Response

This company is a joke. Like the others here I have been trying to collect my husband's retirement annuity. I lost him February 13th to covid after a long battle with cancer. To subject someone to these ***** tactics over a small amount of money is criminal! They tell me all my paperwork was received and it was approved 2 weeks ago and then. I got two more letters asking for the same documents over and over. I have sent all the requested documents several times by US Mail and last week I started faxing them. I ended up paying $20 to fax them! How ridiculous to put someone through this when what I need is closure on this in Order to grieve and help my disabled daughter get over losing her dad so we can move on. Athene I don't need your insincere condolences anymore. I do need you to finish this and close the account and mail my check! This was prompted because I received another letter today asking for the lump sum distribution document that I have sent at least 10 times and the executor paper that I have also sent many times. When I call I'm told you have these papers!Athene USA Response

Absolutely p*SS poor company. You will never see your money. I won my exs *** in a divorce. 8 months later and they still cant find the divorce papers. Or they need something else. Their reps are rude AF. They need to be shut down.Athene USA Response

As a financial advisor and agent for 32 years, I have never seen or dreamt a US company would completely out-source customer service to a third world country. In addition, I have never experienced the problems moving or getting clients' money on their behalf. I was originally licensed with AVIVA in 1999 and witnessed the sale to Athene ************** after the financial crisis. The books of business that Athene acquired were out-sourced and are not being handled by Athene in **********, but in the ***********. This has created dialect communication issues, incompetence, and the inability to reach anyone directly that can assist you. At the onset of the sale, Athene could not confirm with clients their balances or if they even had their money. Numerous complaints to *************************** will verify this. This is the most un-patriotic, unethical, and unprofessional conduct I have ever witnessed. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY OR KEEP YOUR MONEY WITH THEM.**************************** Investment Advisor/Licensed AgentAthene USA Response

Beware.....I had account for 7 years....it made no gains.I am moving funds to my current 401k and they are telling me now that there is a ***************************************** about. They are taking back sign on bonus and taking a 13% fee.I never would have done it if I had know about such a long contractAthene USA Response

I wish I wound have seen these reviews before I put money with Athene 2 years ago. Their performance is horrible and getting in touch with a real person and trying to make a free withdrawal is just about impossible. Im seriously thinking of taking the penalty hit just to get my own money back. I gave 1 star because I think you have to in order to get your review to post.Athene USA Response

I invested in this company through a financial advisor. The worse investment I ever made! Penalties for early withdrawal prior to 12 year contract date are exorbitant and their methods of computing roi are confusing and questionable. An example: I moved a $28000.00 **** to Athene in 2011, left it there until I could withdraw without penalty (12 years). In 2023, it was valued at $42000.00, a gain of $14000.00. I withdrew the $42000.00 in 2023, invested it in some blue chip stocks and the account balance today is $69000.00. A $27000.00 gain in one year. I would advise any serious investor to avoid all annuities and, especially, Athene. I would fire any financial advisor that utters the word annuity to me in handling of my investment. This company not only lacks transparency in their investment strategy, that have the most inefficient and pathetic customer service when you are looking for assistance on anything.Athene USA Response

Another one-star review. DON'T DO IT!!! I am the caregiver for my father and here I am trying to leave a review on the ATHENE ANNUITY AND LIFE COMPANY. Am I?!? I don't know - it says ***************, ** - I'm trying to navigate the miles and miles and miles of RABBIT HOLES - what happened to ATHENE ANNUITY AND LIFE COMPANY in *******, VA?!?!?!?!?!?I spent over $50 faxing a POA, Letter of Competency, Current Mailing Address, and Phone Number (MINE!!!). I get a letter dated two weeks after it's computer generated saying they have been trying to call - WHO?!? Not MY telephone number which is what is supposed to be in the system. Then trying to get through to the EAST COAST TIME ZONE which shuts down after "business hours." is ridiculous. I've been up since 6:00 am PST only to go through a rat race of AI screening and only to be told TWICE that their system is down and call back in an hour. So - I called back at 7:55 am and now I have to call back at 9:00 am - guess what I have a new caregiver support group meeting I'd LOVE to (and NEED to!) attend!!!!!The CEO, HEAD HONCOS and SHAREHOLDERS are LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK!My father worked long and hard for his retirement pension and is now in memory care. I don't have the luxury of having a job and contributing to my SSI because who wants to hire someone who can't get to their job because they're always chasing this stuff!!!!!
