Do NOT take your animals to *** Herder, if you love them that is. We had an emotional support dog for my husband who is an Army vet and Herder basically killed the dog. They will argue otherwise ofcourse and when you call to ask questions after spending thousands of dollars will just reread the falsified chart!! We liked them at first, but they got too big, prices are out of control! They waited too long to send the love of our lives to and ER and then told us "it's just a do" $7,000" later. Zero stars

Loved Dr. Jerry ********* and Dr. Lori *******... before Jerry left. Now? This clinic has taken a HUGE turn for the worse!

I recently made an appointment with Dr. ******* and took two of my birds to the clinic to be examined for bumblefoot and possible trichomoniasis. When we arrived we were seen by a "new" vet and told Dr. ******* was not available. Our teenage daughter had to show this vet and her assistant how to hold a chicken in order to examine the feet because neither knew how.

We had already treated the birds' bumblefoot by soaking the feet in Epsom Salts and cleaning and disinfecting the feet with SAF-Clens AF Dermal Wound Cleanser and Provodine-Iodine U.S.P. prep pads before removing the black scab and kernel with a sterlized scalpel & tweezers, treating with Vetericyn, and wrapping with sterile gauze and self adherent wrap. Overall they appeared to be healing well but we wanted to be sure.

They removed the wrap with my daughters help and examined the feet of both birds then told me to "continue doing what you're doing".

One of the birds had an additional bump on the top of her foot that we weren't sure about and some yeasty substance in the corner of her beak. We wanted to make sure it wasn't something contagious that could affect the rest of our flock (like trichomoniasis) because another of our birds also had some in the corners of her beak.

The lack of knowledge by this vet and her "nurse" was astounding. They didn't even know how to properly get a specimen for testing. They took a cotton swab to the edge of her beak (the lesion was on the inside), left the room then returned to tell me "the test was inconclusive". (I was later told, by other avian vets, that a "crop-wash", not a swab, is usually used to diagnose trichomoniasis).

Anyhow, then I was told that it "could be a vitamin deficiency" and I needed to be feeding them a "crumble for layers". I feed an organic 16% layer crumble with organic whole seed scratch and fresh fruit and veggies daily and my 4 birds free-range in our chemical-free lawn and garden when not in the coop or run.
I add probiotic/vitamin supplement to their water and change it daily. Then she told me "if it is trichomoniasis, there's not really anything we can do because the antibiotics we would typically use have been banned in livestock animals and chickens are considered livestock". When I asked if there were any alternatives she told "not that I know of". She literally said she didn't know what else to tell me and then suggested I "Google it".

So we took the birds home. I called back a few times to talk with Dr. ******* and was told she was on vacation but they would leave her a message to call me when she returned. I did not receive any calls.

SO, I called today to speak with Dr. ******* or Taylor. Since both were busy I asked to have them return my call ASAP because I was unhappy and one of the birds I'd brought in is sicker and I still need help with her. I was told I'd be transferred to Dr. *******'s voicemail and hung up on. I called back. Then I was transferred to a nurse after telling them I did not want to speak to a nurse. She hung up on me after telling me it was noted in the records that I had "refused treatment" because I prefer organic. When I disagreed, she hung up on me. I called back and again asked to leave a message for Dr. ******* or Taylor. The man who answered refused to do so and hung up. I called back again, the receptionist said "I told him to hang up", and "I will not leave her a message because Dr. ******* will not work with you because you are treating the staff badly" and hung up.

I will definitely not go back. I'll truly miss Dr. *******. She's an excellent avian vet. But her clinic staff is extremely unprofessional and unsupportive. I paid over $200 to be told to continue what I'd already been doing and that I'm a "good pet owner", my birds are still sick and getting sicker, and I'm still looking for a different vet. I really miss Dr. *********. He was amazing. Too bad his successors don't hold the same standards.
