On 6/29/2025, my vehicle was towed from Rowat Lofts at *************************** while I was staying at an ******. I believe the tow was unethical and predatory. Im requesting the BBBs assistance in holding Crow Tow accountable.I parked briefly to unload my belongings into the ******* I was away from the vehicle for only 20 minutes. The parking permit was located inside the ****** unit, as instructed by the host. When I returned, the car was gone. I contacted Crow Tow immediately and was told they had towed it approximately 20 minutes earlierthe exact timeframe I had been away. After retrieving the permit, I discovered it was for a different lot, which added to the confusion. There were no visible signs warning of towing risks or time limits at the location where I parked. There was no ***** period or effort to contact me before removing the vehicle. When I asked for the owners name, the employee only gave me ***** and refused to provide a last name. I was given no opportunity to resolve the issue and no clear explanation of any violation. As an out-of-state guest, I felt targeted and taken advantage of.This tow felt like a profit-motivated action, not a public safety necessity. The lack of transparency and refusal to identify ownership raises serious ethical concerns.Crow Tow has previously been dropped by Polk County due to complaints of unethical towing. I am not the first to raise concerns about their aggressive practices.I respectfully request:1. A full refund of all towing and impound fees.2. A written apology.3. An investigation into Crow Tows towing policies.4. Stricter enforcement of clear signage, wait times, and business transparency.Ive attached documents including my ****** instructions, call notes, and tow receipt. Thank you for your attention and action to protect consumers.

Crow Tow is contracted to patrol the lot in question which is reserved for permanent residents of the complex and never for ****** guests at any time and tow any vehicle not displaying a permanent resident pass immediately. In this case, Crow Tow did exactly as contracted. Any complaints about the details of ****** instructions or any other portion of the complaint are not the responsibility of Crow Tow and as such, we consider this a closed matter.

My vehicle was illegally towed by Crow Tow on June 17, 2025, from my legally owned driveway. A contractor, **** *****, wrongfully called to have the vehicle removed, despite having no authority over the property. This happened while I was out of town in ********* due to my significant other undergoing emergency brain surgery.According to Officer Genoese, who was present during the tow, this situation was clearly questionable. When I returned on June 19, 2025, to retrieve my vehicle, I was charged nearly $320. I presented photo evidence showing that the vehicle was towed directly from my private property without proper justification.Instead of offering assistance or trying to resolve the matter, I was met with rudeness, disrespect, and aggression. The owner, ***** ****, not only dismissed my concerns but spoke to me in a hostile manner and even threatened to have me jailed simply for standing up for my rights.Crow Tow made no effort to investigate or correct their mistake, and they refused to acknowledge the clear evidence of wrongdoing. Their behavior was unprofessional, unethical, and abusive.I am requesting a formal investigation into this incident and seeking full reimbursement for the fees charged. I am also calling for Crow Tow to be held accountable for their predatory practices and blatant abuse of ******** make matters worse, since the illegal tow, my vehicle has not been operating correctly. It is now experiencing mechanical issues that were not present prior to the tow, raising serious concerns about how the vehicle was handled. I believe this damage is directly related to how Crow Tow removed and transported the vehicle.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/23/2025

on 6/17/2025 the Des Moines Police department called Crow Tow to help a resident resolve a civil dispute between neighbors. Complainant and his neighbor have adjoining gravel driveways. Complainant left a vehicle parked over the property line and impeding the use of his neighbor's property. As such the vehicle was legally removed and privately impounded. All related towing storage fees are fair and appropriate and no remediation of the complaint will be offered by Crow Tow. Crow Tow's towing methods in no way affect a vehicle's mechanical operability. If complainant takes his vehicle to a licensed mechanic they can help diagnose his issue and explain that there is no way for towing to affect that aspect of a vehicle.

    Complaint: 23504192

I am rejecting this response because: The Facts
On June 17, 2025, while I was in Iowa City with my significant other during her emergency brain surgery, I was informed that my vehicle had been towed from my legally owned gravel driveway. The individual who initiated the tow was a contractor named Mike Crane, who had no legal ownership or authority over the property.
Crucially, the actual property owner, Brenda, who resides at 1515 19th Street, did not authorize the tow. I have video evidence from Brenda herself stating that she never gave permission for the vehicle to be removed from her property. This is a critical detail that confirms the tow was done without the consent of any legal property owner.
I also spoke directly to Sgt. Higley of the Des Moines Police Department, who clearly stated that his officers do not have the authority to order a tow from private property without the owner's permission. This was a civil matter — not a police matter — and yet your company proceeded to tow the vehicle anyway.
My Attempt to Stop the Tow
Before the tow was carried out, I personally called Randy Crow to explain the situation. I told him that the property owner did not authorize the tow and that this was a civil dispute, not a criminal situation. He hung up on me twice during the conversation. I pleaded with Randy, respectfully and urgently, to stop the tow — yet he ignored the facts and proceeded anyway.
This willful disregard of facts and abuse of power is unacceptable, unethical, and possibly unlawful.
    The Experience
When I returned to Des Moines on June 19, I was forced to pay nearly $320 in towing and storage fees to recover my vehicle. Upon presenting documentation proving ownership and questioning the validity of the tow, I was met with aggressive behavior, and Randy threatened me with jail time if I didn’t comply. I was treated as if I were a criminal — during one of the most painful, vulnerable moments of my life — while trying to support my loved one through major surgery.
Since the tow, my vehicle has not been operating correctly. A diagnostic appointment with a licensed mechanic has been scheduled. If any damage is linked to how the vehicle was towed or stored, I will pursue full compensation for repair costs.
    Mental and Emotional Distress
The emotional impact of this situation has been profound. Already under extreme stress due to my partner’s medical crisis, I was further burdened with:
The shock of my property being taken from me without cause,
The fear and intimidation of being threatened with arrest,
And the complete lack of accountability or compassion from your company.
This situation has caused me ongoing stress, sleepless nights, anxiety attacks, and emotional trauma. I have had difficulty focusing, eating, or feeling safe — and no person should be subjected to this treatment for protecting what is legally theirs.
Courts across the country have awarded damages for emotional distress in similar cases, including those involving:
    Wrongful towing of private property,

    Sincerely,

    Marwan Saadiq

Crow Tow illegally towed my car twice, and owes me $200 minimum for their wrongful actions. "While private property owners have the legal right to remove vehicles from their property, they generally cannot tow without notice unless the vehicle is breaking the law or creating a hazard."I was not breaking the law, as I had a permit displayed for the area I was parked in and had legal access to this lot and the surrounding streets. Crow Tow illegally towed my car as they failed to look thoroughly for my tag that was displayed, and proceeded to have their employee place it in a different location and towed my car illegally a second time. Though they delivered my car back the second time, they wrongfully charged me $200 for the first tow as it was not a valid tow. They have also failed to provide photographic documentation of my car being towed the first time to prove that my tag was not displayed correctly, which is required of their business partner *************. I am demanding that Crow Tow compensates me for their wrongdoing, as they have now stolen my car twice and interrupted my ability to go to work where I was also supposed to be getting paid. I should be requesting $245 as I missed two hours of work ($20/hour) + an **** fee of trying to get to work while they slowly delivered my car back.

Ms. ******* vehicle was indeed towed twice from the area where she lives due to failure to properly display a parking permit. Ms. ***** rightfully owes Crow Tow for both tows due to her failure to display the pass but as a courtesy the vehicle was returned free of charge the second time, not because Crow Tow performed any work outside the bounds of our duty to the complex management, but as a favor. Photos from each tow are attached showing no permit (mirror hanger) properly displayed. As such, Crow Tow intends no further restitution of the complaint.

The vehicle in question was requested removed from private property at the owners expense by request of that property and stored at our secure facility. This accounts for the ****** towing fee and the ***** storage free. The vehicle apparently did not run and needed to be towed out to avoid additional storage charges. The client was made aware of the charge for the additional tow (which is our cheapest available rate for any tow) via recorded phone call and in person before paying the fee. They were offered 24 hours of free storage after paying the initial tow and storage bill to attempt to find a cheaper option to remove the vehicle from our property and lower their overall cost of their situation however they chose to pay our rate and have it removed/delivered immediately. The charges were all explained before the work was performed as well as other options were available and the customer declined so ******************** deems this complaint invalid.

I was towed by Crow Towing and would like to file a complaint against them for unethical conduct. Crow Towing wouldnt let me enter my vehicle. ***** hooked up my vehicle while I was standing right next to it. This incident happened on 01/172025 at 6:16pm in front of Mollys cupcake shop downtown **********. The no parking sign was not visible because it was knocked down on the ground. I have taken several pictures to prove that there wasnt a sign letting the public know that you cant park there. I called Crow Towing right away to speak to a manager but no manager was available until next day.

The lot the complainant's vehicle was in is private property that frequently has issues with surrounding establishments taking up their parking spaces. Holder of this private property has engaged Crow Tow to keep their parking available to them. This entails monitoring the property and removing any unauthorized vehicle immediately. No city or state statute requires any signage for private property but this one in question actually has more signage per stall than any other property we monitor. Attached is a photo of the complainant actually pointing to signage she drove past to even enter the lot. Crow Tow followed all laws and regulations and acted in accordance with our agreement with the property owner. As such, the tow and all related fees are accurate and there will be no remediation. Crow Tow considers this matter closed.

On new years night they took my car from an empty parking lot despite me having 2 valid parking stickers , they said there was a time limit but no posted sings. This company often does over night shifts that include walking around ********** housing and taking as many vehicles as possible.

Customer's vehicle was parked in a permit only section the the ***** apartments. Customer's vehicle displayed permits for other companies/properties but not for the *****. Photos are attached. Proper sticker would be a Crow Tow branded sticker starting with SC for the numeric code. Customer's vehicle did not display such pass. Customer made no claim of having a proper sticker when paying and retrieving his vehicle. ******************* for the ***** has not reached out on this customer's behalf leading us to believe he is not a resident there and would not have a proper pass. The tow and fees charged were valid per the monitoring agreement between the ***** and Crow Tow. Customer has left several misleading negative reviews/complaints as well as a fraudulent charge back on his credit card payment. Crow Tow is perusing it's rights in regard to the charge back and considers this matter closed beyond that issue.

On November 24th, I parked my car in Lot 164 at ********, believing it was my mother's lot. On December 8th, I discovered Crow Tow had towed my car due to incorrect parking. After paying a $1,208.46 tow fee, I found my car wouldn't start. Crow Tow towed it to ****** of Des Moines for *********************** found no major issues, but upon retrieving my car, I experienced problems with the ignition key cylinder, which had never occurred before. When I contacted Crow Tow about this issue:They were uncooperative and refused to take responsibility.A representative hung up on me during a phone call.In-person interactions were hostile and unprofessional. They refused to communicate directly with me, insisting on speaking only with *******I believe Crow Tow damaged my car while it was in their possession, specifically:The ignition key cylinder became loose and detached. They admitted to making a spare key for potential auction. The car's condition changed significantly during their custody.I am seeking compensation for the damages to my vehicle and a resolution to this issue. I have attempted to resolve this matter directly with Crow Tow but have been met with hostility and refusal to cooperate.

    Business Response

    Date: 01/03/2025

At no time has Crow Tow acted in a way that was a refusal to cooperate or hostile. Unfortunately while the complainant is able to very eloquently express herself in written form, when speaking directly to myself and my staff she has repeatedly yelled and talked over people and just been verbally abusive in general on several occasions. We were yelled at because of the original tow. Complainant's vehicle was towed by direct order of the property. Complainant had us tow the vehicle to ******. We were then called and yelled at repeatedly that it was not at ****** when it was. Then lastly we were called and yelled at repeatedly about this key issue. We simply asked her to have ****** explain the issue because she was unwilling to communicate in any manner we could understand to get to the root cause of the issue. The vehicle was towed and not redeemed for over two weeks. Per Iowa code, complainant had lost all claim to possession of the vehicle or contents. Crow Tow still allowed complainant to redeem her vehicle. Crow Tow had proceeded to prepare the vehicle for auction as it was deemed abandoned which includes having a key made. The car's condition did not change significantly. It appears from the evidence provided that the locksmith did not put a bolt back in the door for the key cylinder before the complainant redeemed the vehicle. This is a simple fix and if complainant would like to bring the vehicle to Crow Tow our mechanics or the 3rd party locksmith can remedy this minor issue in approximately 10 minutes.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 01/13/2025

    Better Business Bureau:

While they allege that I was verbally abusive, I categorically deny these accusations. At no point did I yell, speak disrespectfully, or act in a hostile manner. I have made every effort to remain calm and professional throughout this process, despite the distressing circumstances caused by their handling of my vehicle.

I appreciate Crow Tows acknowledgment of my ability to express myself effectively in writing. This skill has been honed through my ********** education in both law and public communication, equipping me with the tools to articulate my concerns clearly and professionally. My verbal communication aligns with the same standard, as I am fully aware of the importance of maintaining civility in any dispute.

To that end, I strongly encourage Crow Tow to provide the audio recordings they claim to have of our conversations to substantiate their allegations. These recordings, if they exist, will confirm that I conducted myself respectfully and that their accusations are without merit.

Crow Tow has acknowledged that the issue with the key cylinder was caused by their third-party locksmith failing to reinstall a bolt in the door. I appreciate their willingness to remedy this issue and will bring my vehicle to their location this week for the necessary repair. However, for my comfort and the safety of my vehicle, I request to be present during the repair process. I trust this reasonable request can be accommodated.

I expect the issue to be fully resolved promptly and at no additional cost to me, as it resulted from their actions while my car was in their possession. I trust that the Better Business Bureau will continue to monitor this matter to ensure it is resolved fairly and professionally.
Thank you for your attention and support in addressing this issue.

    Sincerely,

    Bukuru Anastazie

Crow Tow can not be liable for the complainant's assumption of business hours. Business hours are posted on our website and ****** and would be provided upon request on a phone call. If Crow Tow is asked to provide office support after hours it will do so when possible but there is an additional fee for providing after hours service. Customer was only charged for the initial tow, the first 24 hours of storage paid up front, and the after hours fee. They were not charged additional storage. Crow Tow also must act in the best interest for safety of everyone's vehicle stored on our property. If a car can not leave the property under it's own power it can only be removed via a towing provider with the necessary insurance coverage to do so. Customers are welcome to use our *********************** or hire a third party however a vehicle may not be pushed out or trailered as that poses too great of a risk to other customers vehicles in the process.

Crow tow wrongfully towed my truck from my apartment building. My truck has the proper parking permit sticker located on the front windshield. My truck was dragged on to a flat bed and that caused damages to my transmission and transfer case. I plan on demanding cost of damage's once I get an estimate and will file for small claims of it leads to that.

Our driver inspected the vehicle, did not find a displayed permit, and began towing the vehicle. During transit the owner of the vehicle called let our dispatcher he was in fact in possession of a permit but had placed it behind his tint so that it could not be seen from the exterior of the vehicle. Our driver was then contacted and pulled over to verify. Even thought the customer had not placed his permit in the proper location and the tow was considered valid, Crow Tow returned the vehicle free of charge with the only caveat that we request the property manager provide a new sticker that can be properly displayed. Crow Tow has been in business for over 20 years and currently tows over ****** vehicles a year using industry best practices. Our practices simply do not do damage to vehicles in the manner the complainant describes. The mechanics on the way a vehicle operates during a tow is that the vehicle stays in park held by the parking pawl and thus the transmission and transfer case the complainant is thinking are damaged are never affected by the tow. Evidence of this fact is apparent/proved by the light tire marks provided by the complainant. Complainant has mentioned that he recently had work in this area. Crow Tow's suggestion is the the complainant takes the vehicle to an ASE certified mechanic that can inspect the prior work and explain both why it is currently leaking and why a vehicle towed by a flatbed truck in park could not cause it. As so far it is our understanding the complainant has had no such professional inspection.

I parked in what I did not know what an apartment complex illegally and saw that my car was about to be towed. I ran over to get my car back and was told it would cost $140. I needed my wallet out of the car and he was about to take it down so I could pay him. I then pulled out my phone to videotape the transaction because I was afraid to pay cash on the street at night and wanted to clarify the charges on video . The employee threw a fit, put the car back up and left. When I got to the office, I was told it would cost $260. If its company policy to charge $140 I do not understand why the video problem. They owe me $120.

The vehicle in question was parked on a privately owned street with well marked signage at every entrance. After the vehicle was fully loaded on the tow truck and the driver was preparing to load a second vehicle you made contact. While not required to, driver stopped progress on the second vehicle and attempted to assist you in regaining possession of your vehicle for a discounted rate that was payable by cash or card. While attempting to help you, the driver lost out on the second tow and then you proceeded to record his personal likeness without his consent. The receipt you would have been provided would have documented your cash payment, there was no need for recording of his personal likeness. Depending on what is done with that footage it can lead to unwarranted harassment of our employees so he was justified in ending the interaction. As such, you we're assessed the standard storage fee of a vehicle stored on the lot. You then requested after hours service of the release of said vehicle which was another charge. This is the difference between the original drop fee offered and the final charge you paid. All fees are standard for the company and the violation was accurate for a tow. As such, no remediation is offered by Crow Tow.

Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
