Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/08/23) */ ******** **** enrolled in his course of study through our Accredited University partner on 8/24/2020 2:26:00 PM ******************* School Information: ******************* University of Wisconsin Oshkosh 800 Algoma Blvd. Oshkosh, WI XXXXX His claim was that he was enrolled in a program not affiliated with the university. This is in error. On Monday, December 14, XXXX XX:XX Mr. **** stated the following: "My next steps will be to file in small claims court. I will be sending subpoena's to representatives of Jer and UW Oshkosh to appear in court. You can decide what is more important to you. Our company has always been open to communicating with all of students on behalf of our Accredited University Partners. This has always been the case with ******** ****. Sincerely, JER Group, Inc. (DBA) JER Online Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/08/28) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Jer advertised the student would receive an accredited certification upon completion of the Career Comprehensive Builder in Technical Writing on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh website. I discovered after paying the tuition that the course does not take place through the university website, that it is non-accredited learning, does not provide an accredited certification, it requires advanced English skills, and the program is not overseen by the university. As a result after four days of being enrolled I requested a refund which was denied. Because the company refused my initial request for refund I was forced to complete assignments to maintain enrollment and not lose the tuition. The assignments where pass or fail, required advanced English contrary to the course description, and I did not successfully complete the assignments but was moved to the next module. Without demonstrating the skills for the assignments and having to continue forward I realized Jer was not focused on student development but rather pushing students through the course to maintain a timeline and maximize profits. I requested a refund for the second time, and was provided an ultimatum by Jer. Jer gave the option to continue on the timeline and complete the course, allow the course to default or expire without a refund, or suspend the learning and complete it at a later date. I did not want any of these options but was forced to accept the suspension so I would not lose the tuition of $2,400. During this ordeal I became ill due to COVID 19, and am still getting back on my feet. I requested a refund for a final time on 3/22/21 and never received a response. Requesting a refund within 4 days of enrollment in the UW systems allows the student to receive a refund. Rather than engaging in fair business practices and prioritizing the student needs, Jer proritzes profit, and sent me an email on 8/15/22 stating the course had expired without a refund. The student has no priority with the company other than to provide them with profit. I am submitting this request as a final attempt for Jer to provide me with a refund and resolve the issue. As well as serving the purpose to provide potential insights to the public about the company's motivations and policies towards its customers. Based on the communication I included as well as the response to this submission it is clear that Jer is unwilling to participate in fair business practices, and unwilling to abide by the policies of the UW system regarding student enrollment. Please, provide a response and refund by Friday, 9/10/21. See attachments for proof of timeline and evidence that Jer is unwilling to provide a refund and provide an explanation as to why they won't refund me. Timeline 8/24/21 - Enrolled 8/28/21 - Requested a Refund 8/31/21 - Request for Refund Denied, Jer gave me the option to continue or to suspend learning and complete at a later date 9/15/21 - Jer threatened to cancel my enrollment as a result of asking for a refund. 11/27/21 - Sent second request for refund 12/10/21 - Request for refund denied 3/22/21 - Sent a third request for refund. Jer never responded to the request. 8/15/22 - Received notification that my enrollment in the course has expired. No refund provided. Business Response /* (4000, 12, 2021/09/08) */ Please note that the former student listed in this complaint enrolled on 8/24/2020 at 2:26:00 PM, not 8/24/21. The time limit for any further consideration or action has passed. JER Group, Inc.
