I traded in my car for a new car Sept 04. I had a lien on my car with Mutual Savings Credit Union. I get a frantic voice mail from a Linda from Mutual Saving Credit Union @ 470-***-8171 and to call her ASAP. I call her and she states Minnesota DMV sent the original title to me. I told her I don't even remember having the title as it would be worthless as I still owed on the vehicle. She said to not worry about as they will order a new one and then charge me ($40) for it. I told her I am not just accepting I am responsible for them not having a copy of title of a car they own until I pay it off. Information I received doing research that makes sense is: Does my lien holder have my title? Once you pay off the loan, the lender removes its name from the title. You then receive a copy of the title. ... It doesn't matter who has the paper title because if there's a lienholder's information provided on the title, that lienholder can have a right to the vehicle. They should have a copyBusiness response

Business Response /* (1000, 15, 2021/11/04) */ In regards to this complaint, we will credit back to the member fees incurred on his behalf ($40). The facts the member researched are inaccurate regarding the title in the state of Minnesota. Here is the website with the information regarding title and selling a vehicle: https://www.dmv.org/mn-minnesota/buy-sell/auto-loans/removing-a-lien.php. In Minnesota, when there is a lien on a car title, the title is mailed to the car buyer, while a lien card is mailed to the lienholder. We did return the lien card, but member stated he did not have the title. Our loan officer was simply trying to facilitate the members car sale with the member not able to produce the title. Consumer Response /* (2000, 17, 2021/11/10) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) I just wanted to be refunded. It still wasn't right what they tried to do.
