Family Pride installed a new roof in July (estimated) of 2022. Hurricane *** landed in the fall of 2022 and cause minor damage to my roof. Due to the damage I requested several times via email and phone calls that Family Pride inspect the roof and provide an estimate for repairs. They did send someone out, but did not provide an estimate or do a repair. They didn't provide the results of that inspection. It wasn't until I posted a negative review on their website that I received a response. ****, one of the owners came to do the visual inspection, letting me know this was a minor repair that they would complete free of charge, despite my offer to pay for the repair (regardless of insurance or warranty). It is now 3 months later and I am unable to get a response from this company or a repair completed.

******, I am glad you had a great experience with your new roof install. We were extremely busy after the hurricane. I'm sorry you had to wait. We did eventually come and do *********** caused by hurricane ***.  And because of the wait we did it for free! Can you please post and update to your review.

      Kind regards,

November 24, ********************************* regarding my roof installation from June of 2021. I have damage do to improper or incorrect installation of the dryer roof vent. My attic is and has been exposed to warm, moist air while the dryer is in use that is rotting the framing, mold growth on surrounding AC ducts and is ruining the surrounding attic insulation, and lint from the dryer could be createing other problems I am unable to see as well. Attic mold can cause health problems from allergies to mental health impairments. Mold is not something you want in your home! Laundry lint, consisting primarily of cotton and synthetic fibers, is obviously quite flammable. Its continued accumulation in an attic space can pose a significant fire hazard. Dryer exhaust contains the water that has been extracted from wet laundry. When this steam vents into the attic, condensation on the wood framing can lead to fungus and dry rot damage. Provided the roof vent was not installed correctly or the wrong kind of vent was installed when your company replaced my roof last year I am hoping your company will fix these damages. If hurricane *** didn't cause leaks I may have not found this serious health and hazardous issue until it became much worse. This is my 4th attempt trying to rectify the situation. I would like someone to contact me by email within 2 business days of receiving this email with some information on how we can resolve this matter . Thank you for your cooperation concerning this matter. If I don't hear back from someone I will take that as a sign your company doesn't have a good faith effort to make things right. I was told there was a 10 years workmanship warranty. The Company will not respond to my messages, emails or return my call.

**** went out to the address and explained that the dryer vent pipe came down during hurricane *** and it appears to be not caused by Family Pride Roofing.  The whole roof is tarped at this time.  We explained to ******* that if she has us replace the roof because of the damage from Hurricane *** then we will pull the vent pipe back up.  ******* said she understood and would take the reviews down.
      Sincerely,

      Complaint: 18532603

I am rejecting this response because:

While it is a fact that **** did come out on December 8th, 2022, the explanation had nothing to do with Hurricane *** causing the dryer vent pipe coming down and the accumulation of dryer lint in my attic far surpasses only a month and half of dryer use. As per the conversation with ********** was told that when having my roof replaced his workers would have said something if there was a transition on the old gooseneck vent or if there was an issue while installing the gooseneck vent over my **** duct. It was also explained that the builder of my home is to blame for the vent coming down.  My house was built in ****, I am the original owner of the house and have not had any previous issues with the dryer duct coming down.  I also did not agree or say I would remove my complaint. I was asked to remove my complaint as I was told their company could in no way have caused my vent to come down or be missing a transition. He did say they could fix it if they were to replace my roof again however with the outcome and explanation, I would be reluctant to have them replace my roof again. I was also told that all the other roofing companies would say that is their fault because they are their competitor. With the explanation given and comments made it had me perplexed and gave me the need to further investigate because I dont want to accuse a company of wrongdoing and I also want to protect myself as a homeowner. I emailed HVAC companies, duct cleaning companies and duct repair companies. I sent them the same pictures. While the companies did say they would have to come out to give me a definitive answer they also stated what could have happened which includes happening during the replacement of the roof. The possibilities included my old gooseneck vent had a transition in which my vent pipe was taped to, the pipe was sticking out to far so it could have been pushed down to get out of the way, while placing the new gooseneck it could have been pushed down and the nailing in that area could have loosen the foil tape and mastic from the attic side of the roof deck making it fall.  The other possibility I was given was the pipe was not secured but as I stated before it had been previously secured to the roof with foil tape and mastic. I have not had a company come out because they want $175-$200 to assess the situation and then the price of repair. I also must replace at least 8, 91in x 24in ***** of insulation as they are completely covered in lint which poses a fire hazard if I have future electrical issue and a health hazard as the affected insulation is above my bedroom. Trying to vacuum the lint off will remove some of the insulation causing it to be ineffective. I am not a roofer, but I was hopeful that the explanation and conclusion would have gone differently with honesty and compassion. An experienced roofer should be able to see if a removed vent has a transition on it, no pipe is protruding in a 5in hole where there should be or when youre putting a new vent on something is blocking it, but you force it on anyways or considering the nailing in the area could cause whats securing the pipe could unsure it. Im not saying that in fact is what happen but for a company to not accept the possibly of his installers causing the damage or not saying anything is disappointing. Whats especially disappointing is blaming a builder from 23 years ago. My roof is tarped because I had leaks. I have since temporarily repaired the pipe and started removing the affected insulation. With the conflicting responses, the amount of lint I still believe the damage was caused during the installation of my roof last year and if Hurricane *** had not occurred and caused leaks, I would not have discovered until much later as I dont go in my attic often. I only store stuff up there and I had to remove it while addressing the damaged insulation from the hurricane.  I will be satisfied and remove my complaint if the company helps cover the cost of repairs and apologizes. Most importantly use this as a moment to learn from. If your installers see something say something. Knowing the possibility of this kind of situation happening in future installs advise your customers to check their vents in the attic to make sure they are still secured. Not all vents are secured the same but there are enough of them secured in the same manner as mine for the potential of the same mishap.

      Sincerely,
