ATTACHED ARE SEVERAL LETTERS I SENT TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY EXPLAINING THAT HIS WORKERS USED A HEAVY MACHINERY DURING THE REPLACMENT OF MY ROOF WHICH DAMANGED MY DRIVEWAY. THE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE AGREED TO FI THE DRIVEWAY HOWEVER, I HAVE NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN. I INFOMRED THE COMPANY I WOULD RETAIN THE FINAL $10,000 UNTIL WE REACHED A RESOLUTION. AS A RESULT OF THIS POOR WORKMANSHIP, MY HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION HAS CALLED MY ATTENTION ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I WAS INFORMED THAT A PENALTY OF $15 PER DAY WOULD BE IMPOSED UNITL DRIVEWAY WAS FIXED. I AM AN 86-YEAR-OLD WOMAN- I LIVE ON A FIXED INCOME. I HAD TO REPLACE MY ENTIRE DRIVEWAY.

In regards to the customers driveway damage, Sun Coast Roofing did not damage the driveway. It was *** Supply's truck that came out to delivery and load material on the customers roof that caused the damage. *** Supply has submitted a claim with their insurance company to cover the damages and  *** Supply has been in contact with the customer since that claim was filed.

On 4/17/2023 we signed a contract with Chris T******* of Sun Coast Roofing, Melbourne, FL to replace our townhome/duplex roof. We paid a $500 deposit at that time and when the installation was completed we paid the balance on 7/20/23 of $22,950 invoice #*****. On 11/19/23 we discovered and reported a leak in our front guest bedroom. We had never had a leak prior. “Tim” from Melbourne office came and looked at the leak and said he’d get back with us. He did not. After this, we made numerous calls and spoke w/ multiple reps from Melbourne and Longwood FL offices each telling us they would get back to us, they did not. (See attached notes of detailed timeline and why multiple offices were contacted). On 12/22/23 we received a call from Mr. T******* that Sun Coast was not at fault but our neighbors roof was and he’d “give us a quote to repair” our new roof which we paid $23,450, which has a 5 yr labor warranty. This is how the roofs were originally constructed and Sun Coast never indicated “our neighbors roof” could be a potential problem before installation. We sent the home office in New Smyrna Beach a certified letter 12/27/23, which was picked up 12/29/23, with no response. We have tried working with Sun Coast to resolve this leak to no avail before contacting the Better Business Bureau. Along with our leak issue, yesterday 1/11/24, we received a second opinion from another licensed roofer and was told the flashing was an issue and the roofer then discovered in another area of the roof, damaged shingles. He also pointed out an effort was made to conceal the damage with white spray paint. We sent Sun Coast roofing a ‘certified mail receipt” letter 1/11/24, informing them of this newly discovered damage. (Photos of our letters and damage are attached). Another promise made and not kept was the screens over the vent pipes were taken off and never replaced. We need a roof that doesn’t leak, no damaged shingles on our NEW roof and screens on the vent pipes !

We have received the notice and have been to the home on many occasions to show the homeowner that the leak is coming from the adjacent connecting home.  However, we will contact the homeowner and set up a time for the corporate manager of field operations to come and take another look at the homeowners issue.  If necessary, we will also contact the local building department to see what is the best way to try and solve this problem.  We have kept a complete digital breakdown on everything that was done on this home including almost 200 pictures to document that the roof was installed correctly and also have the paperwork from the city showing that we have passed each and every building inspection.  Nothing here is our fault, it is the issue with the neighbors roof as it attaches to this home.  We are unable to touch the neighbors roof without approval from the neighbor and the city building department.  We will work on getting this taken care of and set up a time to have all parties meet.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

As of today Tuesday January 16, 2024 we have not had the  “corporate manager” to contact us about resolving the leak or the screens on the vent pipes.

However, to our surprise, without us being contacted beforehand, Tim J****** (who was very polite and professional) from the Melbourne office and two men from the Longwood, FL office came to replace the damaged shingles that we addressed in our original complaint.  We much appreciated this repair!
We called the Corporate office in New Smyrna Beach, after speaking with “Wanda” at BBB, about how to proceed moving forward to resolve the other issues. We spoke with “Danielle”  who didn’t appear to know ALL the details in our complaint, but said she would try to set in motion “moving forward we want to come to a resolution” and their “corporate superintendent” would be contacting us soon.  We appreciated Danielle’s professional attitude and kindness.
We feel better knowing there is an effort being made, but may still need BBB to stay involved until resolved.

      Sincerely,

      *** ** *******

This Homeowner has to get approval from neighbor for us to get on their roof, we call the city official and they advised we can not get on that roof without permission. This roof has passed all inspections and the leak is coming from the connected niebors roof. Sun Coast Roofing is not liable or responsible for this leak, However if we can ge permission to be on the roof of adjoining roof we have no problem trying to identify the problem.

I contracted with SunCoast Roofing Solar to replace my roof. The job was completed the 2nd week of June '23. All seemed fine with the replacement, until the first significant rain event the end of Sept. At that time I noticed a visible buckle had developed at the top of the roof traveling down. Upon inspection I could feel the roof sheathing was upheaved under the roofing surface. I stopped by SunCoast's office in person and showed the Superintendent (*******************) images of the roof, immediately without looking at the roof he claimed it was a pre existing condition. I disagreed knowing that it was not there previously and if it was why wasn't it addresed during the roof replacement as I was there the entire time in constant communication with the crew. After several unanswered calls to their office he finally sent someone (***********************) out to look at the roof buckle. His scripted response was the same as the Super's. I again disagreed explaining the it wasn't there and grew longer with every rain event and was definitely a leak causing the damage. His solution was to watch the area during a rain to see if there was an active leak and call us if something developes. Tired of all the stall tactics, excuses, unanswered calls I sent a Notice of Claim regarding the matter to the corporate office on Oct.24. I received an email from ******************* Corp Branch Mgr. acknowledging the notice and met with **** Nov.2 on the roof to discuss the issue. We agreed that the roof would need to be opened up to inspect and he would send a crew out to do so. I texted him directly nearly everyday since and usually received a reply with some sort of excuse why the cew can't come out or they simply didn't show. As of Nov 7 there have been no replies to my texts. I sent an email to ************ with no reply. All I seek is that they stand behind their workmanship in a professional manner & fix the issues that were reported. As this is an active leak roof damage continues to occur with every rain.

      Customer response

      12/27/2023

Sun Coast performed a water test that was inconclusive. Still trying to get me to accept the roof defect, I refused and the superintendent opened up the defected roof buckle and apologized, admitting that the underlayment was not properly installed causing poor adhesion and that the crew that installed the roof would remove and properly install that section of roof covering on December 30 2023. I agreed to move forward with the repair attempt and requested that the details of the repair be sent to me in writing but have not received any correspondence regarding the repair.  Hopeful that the repair attempt is done as scheduled and is sucessful I request that my case be extended beyond the 10 day response window to allow ample time for SunCoast to perform the repair attempt and see the outcome.

My roof was permitted on February 23, 2023! I was on a wait list for materials! Actual work started on June 24, 2023. Upon completing roof. 1st Inspection failed due to excessive water ponding on roof! Called Sun Coast and ******************* came out! His crew tore off 1/2 roof that had to be redone! #2 inspection failed because the drip edge was not installed properly! Sun Coast fixed # 3 Inspection failed because of excessive bubbling on edge. Suncoast had to get extension up to 2 months. At this time being the 21st of November the extention expires in 2 days. I have made numerous phone calls to ******** at Sun Coast asking what when and its been 2 months now not 1 phone call back nor has anyone showed up to fix the problems over the last 2 months of this extension! This has been 6 months waiting to get this fixed properly and a signed off permit!! ************************* lied to me saying the permit passed inspection therefore i paid the remaining balance! Since this has been paid in full Sun Coast has abandoned me with a failed permit let alone the work has not been completed!

6/28/2023 date roofing job began. At the end of 1st day job quality was terrible. I began calling Sun Coast the next morning at 8 AM. I received no call back and the job continued. Rotted wood was roofed over, drip edge had gaps and was not long enough, missing shingles, an interior leak, the structure of my flat roof has been altered and was sagging on one end, and my aluminum pool cage frame had been cut and bent. I began calling Sun Coast and no response from management. Records show I called Sun Coast Roofing 13 times over a two week period. Mr. F********* did finally come out and agreed that there were problems that needed to be addressed. He sent workers that made the issues worse. We asked for upper management to come inspect our home and a man named Kevin came several days later. He agreed there was problems. He said he felt the roof now needed to be supported at the end that was now inches lower than it was previously. He sent workers and they cracked the new plywood, trying to maneuver the roof back into place. They attempted to hide the crack with more wood, and when that didn’t work for the roof they installed what was to be a temporary pole by drilling holes in my concrete pool deck. Several days later Kevin came back. We showed him the issues. He said that the cracked plywood was satisfactory although we told him we wanted it replaced as we are being charged for new wood, not damaged, and we furnished him and Mr. F********* with a list of items that needed to be done to finish the job and correct the issue. I asked to have a different crew. The same crew was sent. I was told that it was to teach them, so this didn’t happen again, but my home is not a learning facility. It is where we reside to feel safe and secure. To date a majority of these items have not been addressed. We sent the letter referring to Florida statute 558 fulfilling our notice of claim and asking for restoration to our homes previous condition prior to this roofing job.

This roof was completed the 1st week of July 2023 , It passed Deck inspection on 6-29-23, an in progress inspection on 6-30-23 and a final on 7-3-23 by the City of New Smyrna Beach. Customer has some complaining of wood not being replaced and the flat roof support issues. Kevin S*** made a site visit on July 21st and there were in fact some issues. We went back on sept 7th to take care of issues, we corrected all issues. The flat roof has a structural issue and the homeowner was advised that we are a roofing contractor and we cannot do structural work. Homeowner was also advised they would need an engineer to discuss the flat roof support system.  We put a 4x4 Post under the flat to hold the structure in place for fear of structure collapse. This would have been the result with any roofing company and that is beyond our license.
The roof had a lot of neglected rotted wood. The communication has mostly been with the son as the homeowner lives out of state.
Every time we have received a call we have gone to identify any concerns they have had. The end result is always about the structure and demanding we do something about it. We have suggested they can call the city back out and we were blamed for knowing the inspector and the son states they are our friends.
At this time we have already sent a notice to the owner and filed a claim of lien for non payment.

It is December 23 and no response from Sun Coast Roofing as to rectifying the issues. Instead they use my sons concerns for his senior mother with health issues as a scapegoat we have never stopped them from working on our roof. We simply want to watch as they proceed as our personal property has been destroyed.  Neither, my son nor myself are responsible for the terrible workmanship and the lack of supervision during our roofing project. Their response stating that they have been to my home several times is proof that the roof is not up to standard or code, and maybe unsafe. To my knowledge there was falsification on the affidavit for the city of **************** as to the nailing of our roof decking . We have requested an insurance certificate six times and have not received it, which I believe we are *********** by law. I have paid for the roof in full and it is not complete. As the company had previously stated that they have been back to my home several times, it confirms that the job they did was terrible.  It was a re-roof.  They should not have had to come back at all if the job had been done correctly.  This is the third roof I have had done by Sun Coast Roofing.  The first two were without issues.  Why will they not do the right thing by their repeat customer and save us both further time and trouble.

In November 2022,we contracted with Sun Coast Roofing to replace a flat root on the front of our house. This was completed within 2 months on January 10th 2023. I then contracted with Sun Coast Roofing to replace our back flat roof,in January 2023. I was informed that since they had already replaced the front roof, and understood the procedures necessary, the back roof could be completed within 2-3 months. I paid the $1000.00 deposit on February 10th, with the understanding it would be completed within 2-3 months as stated. In March, I called to check on the status, received a call from a new customer relations employee and was told that it would be scheduled on July 3rd. I informed him that July (6 months later than stated) was unacceptable. I had further conversations with the customer relations employee to get the date moved to the previously stated time frame. He informed us to call Tammy, as she was the one that creates the scheduling. We called, the receptionist said she was busy and transferred us to her voice mail. A message was left, but we never received a call back. Due to the lack of communication from Sun Coast Roofing, pertaining to the July date, we decided to cancel the order. After sending the canceling email, we received a call from the salesperson. I informed him I had tried to work this out, to no avail. Again, I requested the deposit back. Once again, On April 19th, I had a conversation with Nick, he suggested I should talk to the sales person and that he would have him call me. As of May, I still have not received a call from Calven, the salesperson. On May 4th, I reached out to Nick and requested the name of someone in the organization that had the authority to refund my deposit. Nick would not give me a name, of a person to talk to. This company should not be allowed to use customer deposits or slip installation dates from 2-3 months, to 6 months. In our casem there are no issues with product availability etc. Again, I am requesting the deposit paid in February be returned.

On Feb. 9th Mr. ******* signed a contact with Sun coast roofing. At the time of signing our company was in fact 12 weeks out on roofing contracts from the damages of the storms.. We keep all documentation of all correspondence and incoming and outgoing call logs. Below are the dates and times of all calls to our office regarding his Feb. 9th roof contract.

On March 23rd 2023 Mr ******* spoke with Nick. Nick informed him we received his permit and he was on schedule for July 3rd. Mr ******* said he would be out of town july and august and would PREFER to have roof completed before that.

On April 6th,2023 Mr. ******* did in fact speak with Cavan his estimator at 3:18 P.M for a little over 3 minutes.

Nick also spoke with Mr. ******* on April 13th unaware he was trying to cancel and had spoken to Cavan. Mr ******* said he is cancelling his agreement because July was not acceptable.. Nick did inform him to speak with his estimator. In our contracts we have a 3 day cancellation policy. Even though this is in our contracts, we are more than happy to cancel Mr ******* contract and will send him back his deposit.

We have received your message through the BBB.  We have not received any letter from you in reference to your desire to cancel this addition.  We have no issues returning your deposit money back to you minus the cost of the permit and engineering.  As you already are aware of,  the material shortages everyone has been having have taken it's toll epically on aluminum.  We have only waited for your materials to come in for months, and then we received a color change on your material just last month (January 24th).  However, if you are no longer happy with the process we will be more than willing to send you the refund.  Please send a letter into the office with your signature informing us of your desire to cancel and then we will send the refund out within 10 days

      Thank you

I have contacted the company numerous amounts of times to fix my ceiling and insulation from a leak that was created when they replaced my roof. It has been months since I first contacted them and it has not been replaced. I have called and texted for almost a year. I have not been able to get any updated inspections for insurance which means my insurance payment is going up over 2k and I am unable to switch because I can’t get a new inspection. The ceiling is only getting worse as the time goes on.

Mrs. ****** was advised to have the interior fixed from a local dry wall company and we would pay the invoice. She then called the office on Feb 1st 2023 stating this has not been done and concerned with mold issue. She was then emailed on Feb. 1st 2023 at 4:53 Pm and notified again to reach out to a local company so we could take care of the invoice.

I am rejecting this response because: companies do not want to work for free until you get around to pay them for their services. I was advised months ago that the would come down to complete this since this was a result of their mess up.

      Sincerely,

I had a $500 off Valpak coupon for "any new roof" from Sun Coast that I wanted to apply to my new roof. When Ray K*** wrote up the estimate he said all discounts already included without knowing I had a coupon. I said I had a valid coupon and he said it doesn't apply to this quote as it was taken into consideration. I said this doesn't sound right, essentially there is no coupon then if they write quotes and everyone gets a "discount ". This roof replacement was following hurricanes Ian and Nicole so I didn't push harder on honoring the coupon since I needed the work done. I did mention it to the office twice when they called to push back the installation dates but again, not much I could do as I needed the roof done. I paid the invoice (over $17,000) in full within 24 hours of receiving it. I would like the coupon honored and $500 credited back to my ***** I would also like Sun Coast to cease advertising in any media discounts they don't honor.

Please mail in the VALPAK Coupon along with a copy of your contract and we will refund the $500.00 back to your credit card.

If you look at the coupon, it states that the coupon MUST be present at the time of the sale.  We do this so we avoid any confusion afterwards

So, if you could just send that in to the office and we will take care of it.

Also, if you could have called, we could of taken care of this through the office

      Thanks

Sun Coast roofing will not honor warranty for a roof they installed 5 years ago and want us to pay $500 for repair of damage done during last storm. The estimator gave us a reason that it was " Act of God" and therefore we have to pay. However, we disagree because we blame the roofing company for faulty roof installation, we sent a letter and pictures to prove it, also showed it to the estimator. This is the second time we had roof damage after the storm. I would like to add that during the initial installation, the workers caused multiple leaks and were totally unprofessional. We sent the letter addressed to the office manager and the supervisor, we never received any response from Sun Coast roofing even though I followed up with multiple phone calls. The warranty is good for 10 years and we believe that they should repair the roof free of charge, because of improper installation.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/10/28) */ The roof warranty does not cover named storms, This was not the cause of workmanship and due to damage from storm. This roof was put on 5 years ago and would need a billable estimate for repairs.
