During renovations done to our home, contractor hired ***** ***** Plumbing. The company to our knowledge was to remove all metal water piping in home. ***** ***** signed letter to insurance company claiming all domestic water lines have been replaced. Per FL statutes domestic is only used to describe waste water. And Potable water is the terminology appropriate. He would not take any fault or accept responsibility for not detecting and active corrosive leak on property adjacent to the area work on and has not provided documentation to homeowners nor did we ever see estimate and or work order. A competent plumbing company should have check adjacent wall especially when working around existing metal piping in a 90+ year old home to determine if in proper working order. I scan of wall could have identified the problem. The work was in guest house and was not used for 2+ years. After inspection of home sale the identified leak found and prior work evident on wall.Customer response

Yes we were hired as a plumbing sub-contractor to assist in the renovation per our proposal posted below. This is what we completed and it was inspected by city.
As stated below, we did find some cast iron that was deteriorated and it was brought to attention of contractor, approved and replaced.
This would consist of: Re-roughing and trim out of upstairs bathroom.
* Upstairs bathroom, and repiping with CPVC materials back to below house.
* Relocating refrigerator water supply line.
* Installing new waterline to toilet in front bathroom.
* Replacing galvanize pipe.
* Repair water piping to shower at front bathroom.
* Replace galvanize pipe in garage apartment.
Change Order:
* Remove waste and vent piping from laundry room and overhead up to 2nd floor.
* Relocate 4” PVC waste stack and reconnect below house.
* Kitchen waste and vent ha a split in vertical piping and needs replacing.
The items above were completed and addressed as they were clearly seen and reccommended for replacement.
The cast iron drainage and vent piping in the garage, if any, was not part of the job and was never visible for us to address.
We did replace the galvanize piping in the garage as stated in the proposal.
* Cast iron waste and vent piping has become very prone to splitting due to age.
* If this piping was exposed during the renovation and was found to be split, this would have been addressed and brought to the attention of the contractor and owner.
We would never leave something like this unaddressed as we are a company that seeks to bring complete satisfaction to our customers and contractors.
We continue everyday to get calls where cast iron has opened up and caused excessive damage.
This item was not in our contract with the G.C. , we specifically wrote in the letter that we were replacing galvanized domestic water pipe. Which was done. As a sub contractor, our scope of work is given to us by the G.C.
The pipe in question was not visible, as it was behind a wall. We had not been given any instruction to inspect or remove cast iron piping.
