We rented a vacation home from A Paradise Vacation Rental from 6/4/21-6/7/21. Conf #WRXXXXXX. The condition and cleanliness of the condo was unacceptable. The air filter for the ac was disgusting and had a last changed date written on it of 12/14/20, which is 6 months prior to our stay. A registered guest in our party suffered from allergic asthma for the duration of our stay due to the filter. After numerous attempts to resolve the issue the company will no longer respond to our requests. At the least, we paid a cleaning fee of $165 and expect to have that fee refunded. They denied our request and stated that had we brought it to their attention they would have changed it. Unfortunately, we didn't realize the filter was the issue until the day of departure, and I don't think it should be our responsibility to tell them that it was disgusting. That should be part of routine maintenance on a rental property.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2021/07/09) */ Guests are advised to report immediately any issues they find in their accommodation so that they may be rectified immediately. We contract licensed insured housekeeper's and we have a checker who walks each property prior to a guests arrival. Each unit is privately owned and each owner contracts with a local a/c company for yearly maintenance. This unit has a/c maintenance twice a year and maintenance was scheduled and performed on June 10, 2021. Housekeeping cleaned the unit prior to the guests arrival and was paid the cleaning fee. If the guest had reported a cleaning issue we would have sent housekeeping back to correct. No report of cleanliness was made during the entire stay and only the dirty a/c filter was reported on check out. No reimbursement has been issued. Consumer Response /* (3000, 12, 2021/07/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) As originally stated, we were not aware of the dirty filter which triggered the allergic asthma until the last day of our stay. I feel as a property management company they have a responsibility to ensure the cleanliness of the rentals that they are representing and therefore routine maintenance items should be addressed in a timely manner. It is not acceptable, nor recommended by any ac company or manufacturer to change an ac filter once every 6 months. Furthermore, it should not be the renters responsibility to check the ac filter upon entering the property to ensure the property management company has performed regular maintenance activities. This is clearly a lack of care for the patrons that occupy the rentals that they manage, and the fact that they have not accepted responsibility truly speaks to the kind of business that they are.
