I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding A1A Towing Company and to request a refund for an unjust towing charge.I parked in ********* and paid for two hours of parking using the app linked through the ** code at the location. I followed all instructions and received a receipt showing my payment was successfully processed and charged to my credit card. However, when I returned to retrieve my car, it had been towed. I immediately showed my payment receipt to the towing company staff, explaining that I had paid correctly. They informed me that the issue was due to a system errorthat the app had failed to register my payment with their system.Despite having proof of payment, I was told there was nothing they could do. The towing company staff, including the supervisor I spoke with, refused to release my vehicle without payment and ignored the fact that I had paid for parking. As a result, I was forced to pay $175 to retrieve my car, in addition to the original $15 for the parking itself. This was clearly an error on the part of the parking app and/or its system integration with the towing company. My car was towed shortly after I parked, despite doing everything correctly. I believe this situation was mishandled, and I am requesting a full refund of the $175 towing charge.I urge you to look into this matter and take appropriate action. It is unacceptable for users to be penalized for system errors beyond their control.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/24/2025

The vehicle was towed because no valid parking pass could be found in the system at the time of enforcement. The parking lot operates using a digital pay-by-phone system, which requires users to enter their correct license plate number when purchasing a pass. In this case, the individual entered their phone number instead of the license plate, making it impossible to verify any valid payment or match the vehicle to a pass in the system.
Per the posted parking rules, failure to enter the correct license plate is considered no valid pass, and is subject to immediate towing at the owner's expense. Our enforcement personnel followed standard procedures, confirmed the absence of a valid pass linked to the plate, and had the vehicle removed.

If you experienced problems with parking app - please, address complains to them directly.

I am rejecting this response because I correctly entered all required information in the app, including my license plate number. The app had a glitch, yet it still accepted my payment and generated a receipt. I provided this receipt as proof of payment.

Given that the system failure was not my fault, I should not have been charged for the tow. If there was an issue with the app, the towing company should resolve it directly with the app developer or the parking companynot penalize the consumer. I am requesting a full reimbursement of the towing charges.

    Sincerely,

    ********* ****

If you will look at your documentation, you will see that you did not enter your license plate. And that is the reason for towing. This is entirely your responsibility to enter correct license plate number.

If you have complaints about the app - please, address them to developers of the app. The towing company is neither the owner of the lot nor the developer of the app.

    Address you complain correctly, please

    Complaint: 23504585

I am rejecting this response because:

I was charged, despite following all the steps and receiving a confirmation of payment. If there is a known glitch in the system, I should not have been penalized for it. The issue clearly lies with the applicationnot with me as the user.

As I mentioned earlier, this needs to be addressed with the app developer and the parking lot operator. It is unacceptable to pass this cost on to the consumer.

Charging someone under these circumstancesespecially with proof of payment and knowledge of a system errorcan be considered deceptive and unfair business practice. According to the ************************ (***), this may qualify as consumer fraud.

I am requesting a full refund for the towing charge.

    Sincerely,

I paid for 4 hours for parking using the mobile app and still got towed.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/11/2025

The service provided was the towing of a vehicle due to a parking violation. The parking lot operates on a digital pay-by-phone system where customers must enter their license plate number and select a ********************** duration. A valid pass must be linked to the correct license plate for the vehicle to be authorized for parking.
Parking attendants use an app to verify valid passes. When the vehicle was checked, no active pass was associated with the license plateindicating either non-payment or an incorrectly entered plate number. Since no valid pass was detected at the time of enforcement, the vehicle was towed by the order of parking management.
Towing was conducted according to the clearly posted regulations displayed throughout the lot. The customer was required to pay the posted ******************** fee before retrieving the vehicle, completing the service as described

DOI: 11/17/24 Charge ****** AIA Towing A horrendous experience on this date when parking at lot: **********. On this November, Sunday, after 6pm when its dark, by an alley area, no pedestrians around, the lot had 2 spaces open so I parked on one being new to the area. I exited my car, ready to take a picture of parking instructions by sidewalk and began processing payment as I walked to a safe area away from alley area this parking lot was situated. The amount between processing the parking $15.44 payment and predatory towing action was 9 minutes. I paid for my parking from 6:29 pm until 8:29 pm and I returned to the parking lot at 8:15 pm to prevent any problems with any delays in getting my car safely out of the parking. There was another gentlemen irate in the same parking lot about towing clamps and crazy glue paper ticket placed in his expensive motorcycle bike. Thanks to that paper ticket I was able to track my car s whereabouts as my car had been towed. The police showed up for this gentlemen and resolved his issue but I was left alone in that twilight zone area to figure out while I waited alone for my **** to towing location. The towing address was so misleading, ****, another towing victim with ****, and thanks to a suspicious car that walked to me and kind of guided me where to walk to find the parking lot as we were all so lost, it was the biggest frightful thriller ever lived in my life. I walked around & around calling towing *** with delayed response to finally being guided in the walk with the other unknown towing victim in a very shady & unsafe area. It was found in a filthy freight office with an enclosed window. The guy lifted the broken window shade and attended the first victim. Then, my turn to sign under *************** to pay the above fee, wait until gate was opened to walk in the dark dirt road with broken pavement. Therefore, is not only about money but truly an unacceptable unsafe conditions mentally and physically for anyone.

Please, try better next time. Less empty epithets and more specifics. This is not a book club after all.

On September 8, 2024, A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement towed my vehicle despite my valid parking permit and payment for parking. I was charged $169.30 to retrieve my car. The towing occurred around 7:10 PM. I was actively walking towards my vehicle because I understood there is no ***** period for parking violations. My intent was to reach my car before the parking time expired, but the towing crew began preparing the process prematurely, clearly before the allotted time had ended.Additionally, the parking payment system only allows for 2-hour increments with no option to extend by 15 or 30 minutes. This rigid system forces users across *************** to pay for an additional 2 hours rather than allowing for a more flexible extension, which is a discrimination and a way to take advantage of people.******* ******, who was in charge of the parking lot, was directly involved in this matter and refused to provide any resolution or explanation when asked. Her uncooperative attitude and failure to address my concerns on-site contributed to the unfair treatment I received, which demonstrate that the company does not care about people.Despite having a valid permit and having paid for parking, my car was towed unjustly while I was walking to the parking. The staff were dismissive and provided no satisfactory explanation or attempt to resolve the issue fairly.Given the circumstances and the improper handling of this situation, I am requesting a full refund of the $169.30 charged for the towing and any other fees. The actions of A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement, including their conduct, were unjust and warrant serious scrutiny. If this matter is not resolved promptly and to my satisfaction, I will pursue further escalation to appropriate authorities and regulatory bodies with no excuses or delays. I believe in fair treatment for consumers and I m a strong advocate for justice and transparency in business practices.Thank you.

    Complaint: 22260361

I am rejecting this response because:

The company towed my car while I was just a few meters away, walking toward it. They prepared to tow it before my time had expired, and as they did so, they looked at me without any respect or fairness. This was a planned act of unfair treatment toward those who park here. Additionally, they changed the rates to require payment for only two hours at a time, without allowing for extra 15 or 30-minute extensions. The person in charge of the parking was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful; when I asked for help, they refused to assist or resolve the situation. I request a full refund as stated in my previous response. I advocate for fair treatment of consumers, and this situation is no exception. Sincerely,

    ***** *****

I can repeat one more time - your pass was EXPIRED. That means that you have to be there before time is expired. Not after.

Or pay for more time. If you didnt like 2hours increments rules from the beginning, maybe you shouldve chose another parking. Because here you definitely had clear intentions to be late from the beginning.

I am rejecting this response because:

I will not repeat the same. I want my money back. I was a victim of this scam, plus they disrespect me by taking my car in front of me when I was going to leave by planning to take the car before expiration.

The company is not acknowledging their unfair treatment and planned scam. I have uploaded a few of their ****** reviews so you can see how other people have also been scammed by the same issue.

Also, a complaint under the Consumer Protection Act has been initiated.

    Sincerely,

Traveled to ******* to celebrate my 2 young daughters' birthday. Flew in from ***********. Very familiar with having to pay to park. This particular lot had zero visible signs warning me that the lot has a tow away policy if parking policies were not followed. Considering there were not any signs visible to me that means the law that went into affect 7-1-2024 stating towing companies required to display their rates on the tow-away signs. I initially thought my rental car was stolen. My daughter was a mess because her new iPhone was in the vehicle along with my wallet. Well life 360 showed us her phone was @ a tow yard @ ***************************************************** That was a shock Considering the lot had not a single visible sign. With a dying phone of mine I was able to get an **** over to the facility where I explained that there were no visible signs and even displayed pictures. The person looked at the pictures and made an excuse about some sign being at the entrance of the parking lot. The pictures I took showed nothing visible to me. As a tourists without signage visible I went on to walk the beach with my family from about 915-1030 pm. This was so close to ruining the birthday Celebration for my 10 and 12 year old girls. They were scared, and upset, and I felt helpless at 1st. Pictures uploaded fit the 5 MB criteria but I have alot more that were too big to upload that I showed this person at the tow yard. Again put in a position of complete duress. My kids are very upset, we are on the corner of a very unfamiliar street at a tiny sketchy window, without know what I am supposed to do to get to the airport the following morning and try to explain to the rental people that their vehicle was not with us but unlawfully towed to 921 N 21st by A1A towing. The sign could not be seen at the entrance because of a large pickup truck blocking it. The sign this person claimed was there was obstructed 100% making it impossible to be seen by me in that rental. No rates visible either.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/26/2024

By the law signs should be displayed at the entrances of the property/parking lot.

This parking lot has 2 entrances and both of them have very clear tow away signs.

Pictures that were provided by complaint are obviously made with intention to hide them and made invisible. They are very clear and more than visible if you actually face the entrance and not trying to take a picture of them somewhere from the street far from entrance.

We parked at *************************************************** for a day at the beach. We paid for our parking, which was only allowed in 2 hour increments on the only parking app that they allowed (Honk). Though our parking lapsed slightly, we paid for the full time - a total of $63. We came back to our car being towed, with the business owner saying it would cost $170 and it would not take into account the money we had paid for parking (which covered the full time, as we left in an Uber to get our towed car with an hour still left in our payment). We also saw a man in the parking lot offering people $50 to take them to their towed car - highlighting that this is a known scam. The sign that the area was a tow away was hidden behind bushes - we had to ask the worker booting other cars where to find it. In total, we paid $230 to park ($60 in the Honk app and $170 to the towing company)

On Wednesday April 10, 2024 my family and I parked at *************** and paid $25 for parking in the lot. When we went back our vehicle it was gone. We called the towing number to ask if our vehicle had been towed and we were told yes. My husband spoke to nearby police officers and they advised this is a normal issue with this lot and there is nothing they do. My family and had to **** to the A1A lot where our vehicle was being held. After talking to the attendant he gave us the opportunity to prove we paid the parking fee. I showed him the statement from my credit card transactions where the $25 was processed. The attendant informed us we needed the receipt from the app. We did not download app, we processed the payment online. After we paid the towing fee and returned to our room for the night we received a notification. I emailed A1A with the notification and credit card statement and I have not received a response. After reading the online reviews it is clear this company has a reputation for being unfair and something needs to be done.I look forward to your response and I hope I can recover some funds from this event. ***********************************

I am rejecting this response because business has been provided with 'Demand Letter' to resolve this matter, where response was due on April 12, 2024. A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement has been served this 'Demand Letter' in person as well through email and official U.S. mail. A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement owner speaks my native tongue and has been advised in person about the issue and refused to open the window at towing location **************************************************** when he was there and as he could see us on the camera. Besides being rude, he stated different times of business operation.

In addition, it's clearly explained in complaint that damages were done to my vehicle and business refused to provide copy of insurance as well as operating active license at the time of incident. There has been police report filed due to damages caused to the my brand new 2023 Platinum Sport Cadillac Escalade due to improper towing. I have provided to A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement estimates for damages to get this matter resolved. A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement insurance company has been contacted as well to cover the damages.

There are over 29+ complaints filed with BBB related to A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement business practices and procedures where action needs to be taken to investigate further and complete inspection to ensure consumer's right are procted, where operating hours are required to be posted, active license and insurance clearly visible.

Attaching demand letter that was served to A1A Towing and Parking Enforcement as well as estimate for damages and police report filed.

On March 17 at 7:29 Pm *****, one of the drivers came to tow my vehicle. I paid the drop down fee and when he dropped my car he damaged a piece of my car. I expressed that he damaged my vehicle as that part was not hanging before. He told me to call the company and I did that. I spoke to a representative who told me the manager was not in at the moment and to come to the office on Monday when the manager was in. I asked if I could speak to the manager personally or get his contact information and he told me no. The representative stated that he passed my information to the manager along with the details of the situation and would be getting a call back. I also called the representative back multiple times to get an update and the representative stated that the manager said to come on Monday to look at the vehicle. Monday came and I received no call back so I called the office today. I spoke with **** stated he was a manager and had no idea what was going on and he was not given any information. **** also stated that because I moved my vehicle there was nothing they could do when I was instructed to move my vehicle by his employees. **** also stated that because I did not record the conversation of the representative that told me this false information there is also nothing they could do.I have pictures and videos of the damage.

There was no way for them to know the damage was there before if they never evaluated the car. I have witnesses that watched ***** damage my vehicle where no previous damage was there.

Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
