  They did my oil change a couple of months ago, I brought it back to do my oil change today. They then stripped the drain plug. Did not allow me to authorize any type of fix before trying to tap the oil pan and put new threads for a new drain plug. And now ** having to pay out of pocket almost 300$ for something they messed up. because the pan is designed not to strip only the plug. So all they needed was a new plug. Yet they didnt ask me before trying to hide the mistake they made and now its costing me more money.

  Hello and good afternoon. I would like to start off by stating that our shop closes at 5pm. We told the customer we were closing and to leave the truck with us and we would do it first thing in the morning or come back at 8am when we opened. This customer came into the shop at ******. He asked us more than once to do the oil change on his very large truck. I myself the owner of the business and a mechanic for 40years, got under the customers truck to perform the oil & filter change. (The filter and oil were brought in by the customer himself.) When I went to take out the drain plug (which was the original drain plug to vehicle) every turn of it was very hard and when it came out it was clearly stripped and needed to be replaced. But at this time it was to late in the day (passed 5pm) for me to call any of my supply/parts companies to deliver a new plug  which meant he would have to wait till the morning for me to get the part. So I told him I would get another plug in the morning and that he may possibly need a new oil pan. The customer then came back later in the evening and put a self tapping plug into the pan himself. And apparently it worked. We did nothing wrong and any ASE mechanic would agree that a truck with over *******  miles on it could possibly need a new oil pan as well.. There was nothing hidden by our shop. The customer left and came back and replaced a drain plug not us.

  (1) Came when shop was closing and practically begged for it to be done because he needed it for work in the morning.

  (2) Vehicle has over ******* miles was original drain plug to vehicle 

  (3) Our vendors were closed for the day

  (4) Customer was standing right there next to the vehicle the entire time that I was lying on the ground underneath the vehicle  trying to get  the drain plug removed. Customer was explained what the issue was with plug while I was on the ground doing it. He was fully aware the plug was stripped at time .
