I was told by Doug C******** that he would be able to build and install a kitchen island/bar style piece of furniture for my kitchen. We paid $2350 via ***** on August 30, 2022. We went back and forth on what exactly we wanted and ended up downsizing the project but Doug kept the $2350 because the final piece was going to cost $3000 total. Doug and my husband made a verbal agreement on the evening of September 23, 2022. Doug was scheduled to begin work on November 1st but never arrived. He said he would be there the following day instead at 10:30. He came late, left, came back again, and framed the piece, working from about 2-4:30. He promised to be back first thing in the morning to finish and never came. Continued to make and break promise after promise -everything from "on my way" to "leaving now" and never came again. I asked for a finished piece or my money refunded. I suggested he send someone else to finish it as well. I eventually reached out to his fiance, Kate Hackenburg, for her help on Friday, November 4th. She was apologetic. On Sunday, November 6th, Doug reached out and apologized for the silence. He asked if he could complete the project on Wednesday November 9th, which I said would be great. I received two text messages promising he was coming on the 9th, one reading "On my way with packed truck" but he never came. I asked Doug to refund my money or provide an itemized receipt for materials and partial refund by 7pm but never received anything. He admitted he would not be able to finish the project and said he would return the money. I have yet to receive any of my money back or further communication.
