I paid for a future cruise on American Cruise Lines while on a cruise. This was in March 2024 for March 2025. I purchased the protection plan for $880.00 plus the $1000.00 deposit for the cruise. I was told that the insurance plan would go into effect when the final payment was made. I was also told that if I canceled up to 91 days before the cruise date, I would receive my deposit and insurance money back. Today, May 16th I called to cancel. I was told I would only get $500.00 of my $1800.00 payment back. They retain $500.00 for administrative fees and do not reimburse for insurance that has never been activated. I have been on over 40 cruises, and on rare occasions had to cancel. Other cruise lines have refunded the full amount. DO NOT PAY FOR A CRUISE ON AMERICAN CRUISE LINES!! They have unfair rules and are not customer friendly.Review from Ruth S

Our room smelled so badly we could not stay in it. Reported it multiple times and they did nothing other than turn down the AC to 40 degrees. Restaurant service was slow and there were many deficiencies in service with almost all new and inexperienced employees. No hand sanitizer in dispensers outside main restaurant until day 4 Reported all these issues to customer service and only received an apology. That was our first, last, and most expensive cruise we will ever take on American Cruise Lunes.Review from Michael M

For those of you, especially senior citizens, who are impressed by the “slick” print advertisement produced by American Cruise Lines: Don’t be sucked into plunking down your hard earned savings for a ride on their boats! It is truly unfortunate a company such as this is allowed to operate in the United States. The Federal Maritime Commission & Mr Pete Buttigieg should be ashamed of tolerating the victimization of citizens who get scammed by ACL. At 80 yrs of age, my hope of an American experience up the Mississippi would be an adventure. But life happens and I had to cancel. Even with the cancellation policy as a part of my $17k payment, ACL is taking my money and laughing all the way to the bank. Obviously, ACL operates without any sense of ethics.Review from Mitzi D.

I contacted American cruise line because I contracted Covid in January 2024. Because of the long-term symptoms, I was too weak to fulfill the plans for the February 24, 2024 cruise to the south east Golden Isle coastline. I asked that they please bank this trip and I will Fulfill the contract on the next available cruise, which was scheduled in March or April 2024. They refused. I informed them that I could get them doctor verification and they still refused because I had not met the 90 day cancellation prior to Feb. 24. They will never get another penny from me.Review from Donald B

If you are a vegetarian and asked for it when signing up, and had it verified, forget about it. Not on the menu. We had a helpful waiter who sneaked some food for us. I complained about it to Robertson the owner he responded that he wouldn't answer this complaint and neither would anybody associated with these "perfect" cruises.Review from Eileen V

If I could leave a Zero I would. My father purchased a cruise through this company, paid in full and purchased a full protection plan. My father an American Vet who served this country "America " (as this company has the nerve to emulate in their buisness name) in the Air Force/Air National Guard for 40 yrs, passed away 3/252023 before the cruise set sail. I Eileen Valenti, is daughter, notified American Cruise Lines of his passing 4/17/2023. I was told to notify them again once I was, by the court, named administrator of the estate. I did this and was informed that it would need to be reviewed. After many attempts and months of explaining and pleas I was informed there would be no refund issued. This company practices digusting behavior and should be ashamed of themselves.Review from Bete J

If you want a river tour that takes you to Walmart this the trip for you. Always ate when we docked as the food was horrible… the servers were embarrassed but very nice and untrained. To make things right for an over $16,000 cruise they offered $1,000 off for the next cruise. As if I would go… make sure your over 70 if you go on this cruise line.Review from Chris M

I guess the only people who come here are mad because I had a terrific experience with ACL.Review from Darryl D

This was by far the worst vacation experience of my life. We spent thousands and thousands of dollars only to regret every cent. We were ported most of the trip and didn’t do even half of the “excursions” that we paid for and were promised. This cruise line was not prepared for weather and no reimbursement was given and no apologies were given. It was all Awful. Most of the excursions and entertainment were canceled…. so we played bingo and ate cookies and they thought that was enough. Dirty and smelly rooms. This cruise line was dishonest and should have told us up front that we would be sitting on the boat 90% of the time. It was all terrible planning and management. Most of the time was spent in the small, dirty boat. Do NOT spent your money on this cruise line. Their customer service does not help or care. This is a scam.Review from Beth B

My mother and I went on American Star for the New England Isles starting on Sept. 16 2023. It was the worst vacation experience I have had, and I've taken 2 vacations a year for the past 15 years. The food was terrible, with no alternatives like other cruises that have always offered hamburgs, hotdogs, pizza when the dining room meal has bad choices. The ship was old and very unimpressive. The bathroom towels smelled musty every day, and I kept asking for clean ones because of the terrible smell and kept getting more towels that smelled very musty. The excursions were lame, it ended up being a tour of the Rich and Famous for every island. The boat hardly moved, it was more like an island hop than a cruise. The one day we had to take a ferry to Nantucket we were given a lunch voucher, which I was impressed with until we found out it was a organic store with two tables in the middle, and not a restaurant. We paid an outrageous amount for this cruise and feel very gullible for having spent so much on so little.
