Happy motors sold me a 2005 **** Escape on September 28, 2023 in seemingly and tellingly in good condition (for $8,900) with around ******* miles. ******* everything was in good condition and I needed a car, I was okay with it. There were minor problems, a small crack on the passenger windshield and the gas meter was a little faulty but nothing major where the car Wouldnt start and it was NOT making noises.FIVE MONTHS passed to February 2024 (Ive only gotten 2 needed oil changes by this time. One when I had first got the car and the second when it was needed.) the car starts making noises. I have a mechanic look at it and he says its the battery possibly. I bought the brand new battery from the store, the car is still making noises and at this point is not even starting anymore. A mechanic now concluded it is the engine. I go to HAPPY MOTORS IN PERSON and said exactly what I have typed. The person at the fronts exact words, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT I definitely did nlt expect the engine to blow when it was ONLY 10k MILES LATER. At this point the guy at Happy Motors shrugged his shoulders after asking what I expected and left us at the front, so Im looking for the guy that sold me the car bc he seemed like a reasonable guy. ******* surely they wouldnt sell me a car with a bad engine then tell me what did you expect. Were looking around and eventually after TEN MINUTES OF LOOKING I just ask the guy that sits by the door, who witnesses this whole encounter and he says oh yeah, ****** passed away 2 weeks ago. Not only did they sell me a car with a bad engine, they acted like they didnt know the guy who sold me the car whom JUST passed away. I am now stuck paying a for the rest of this car, and happy motors couldnt care less.Business Response

The customers purchased their vehicle on 8-23-2023. The Vehicle was sold as-is with no guarantee. It sounds like the customer has put ****** miles on the vehicle since buying it, so obviously the vehicle was not sold with a bad motor. The car also passed the Colorado State emissions test prior to sale. In December 2023 or January 2024 the vehicle was involved in an accident where an insurance claim was filed.
Lakewood Happy Motors offered to look at the vehicle but the customer wanted her vehicle fixed for free. We will not fix the vehicle for free as it was sold as-is.
Regarding the issues experienced with the vehicle, we have taken note of the accident you were involved in shortly after the purchase and understand that an insurance claim out on the vehicle. It is possible, though not certain without a detailed inspection, that the problems you are experiencing could be related to or exacerbated by the accident and subsequent repairs. Additionally, we have noted that the vehicle has been serviced by other mechanics for oil changes during the time you have owned it.

I received 2 letters last Thursday about my complaint and wanted to reach out, as the letter took too long and the case was closed.
When in person at Happy Motors I was told by management What did you expect? with a shrug of his shoulders. It made me think it was purposely done and sold to me for the purpose of money grabs and was told you bought a car that was X amount of years old so it was going to happen. No engine after only 9-10,000 miles should completely impede the car after only 4 months. Nothing I could have done would impact the cars driving. Please send when the emissons test was done and what the mileage was at when the emissions test was done in comparison to how many miles the car had when it was sold. When in person was told that at my own expense, I could tow the car to Happy Motors to pay for a new engine which I feel is not right considering I was told the engine was in good condition & now the car does not start after only 4 months.
Never did I once ask for the car to be fixed for free, I went in person to see if there can be a resolution to even have the car towed there so it can be seen by Happy Motors.
Ive had 2 oil changes at JIFFY LUBE
(***************************************************)
on the following dates: August 25, 2023 and January 31, 2024. There were no issues with the car on either date.
The first one was around the time I got the car so it could be checked for any issues as well as an oil change as one was not performed prior to buying the car as the car indicated it needed one. NO issues were found and because it was a car from a dealership the automotive company did not expect anything to be wrong with the engine. All that was done was an oil change, nothing with the engine. The engine has never been touched outside of Happy Motors prior to it breaking down. I never expected the car to be fixed for free as that is not reasonable. I went to Happy motors in hopes of coming to a conclusion on them towing my car to take a look at the engine because cars from dealers should not go out after only 4 months.
I was lied to about the engine being in good condition considering Ive had the car looked at by a certified mechanic at the shop above.
On January 4th I was involved in a DRIVER SIDE-SIDE SCRAPE ranging from the back bumper to the front bumper. The damages were only cosmetics that were paid for by the driver at fault. I do not understand how the side scrape on the driver's side (left doors) could affect the opposite side (the front right side where the engine is) or how it could possibly make the engine fail or impede the car's ability to start. If documents are needed for my accident, I am happy to send them to you as well.
Thank you,

I purchased a 2002 GMC Envoy from the company on 11/23 and within 2 weeks the vehicle broke down and I had to take it in to be repaired and pay for the repairs which at first I didnt mind because I know older vehicles have problems. Then the vehicle broke down again within a month of that repair with the same problem and then I had to pay for it to be repaired again. Then I had the vehicle less than a month and it broke down for now a third time. Now this time the repair was VERY expensive costing me close to 2000. They this time told me that I should ditch the car as a loss and invest more money into a different vehicle with them. I then refused and demanded them to fix the car once again in hopes that it would be the final repair. Not at all the vehicle has not been repaired correctly if at all and has broke down with the same problems before within weeks that cost me 2000 and now probably more damage because of their neglect of services professionalism and good business practices. I have called multiple times with no response or concerns to them selling me a dangerous vehicle that has had multiple recalls on it. I am very fearful of bringing my vehicle back to them in fears of being scammed again and the vehicle not being fixed to even be safe to drive. This has really been a financial burden because I spent every dime I had on my down payment and repairs for a vehicle that has been recalled, unsafe and should not have been sold to an individual.Business Response

We are very sorry to hear you are having problems with your vehicle. If the worked was preformed in our shop and was done incorrectly we definitely would like the opportunity to correct the problem. If there are open recalls that need to be done on your vehicle, you can call a GMC store and they will fix the open recalls. Please call the store so we can try and help assist you.

Im responding to the businesses response. I went into the place of business and spoke with the manager about the situation and was not happy with his response! He truly did not want to help me with the situation, he proceeded to tell me that I had to get my NON running vehicle to them at my expense and that he would try to fix the issue but I still had to pay for the labor! I would not have a broken down vehicle if they would have done the job correctly the first time and not have used second hand parts or even done the job the right way! My vehicle broke down with the EXACT same issue that I originally brought it into them for that they charged me close to 2000! Now they are not assuming responsibility for their gross negligence!Business Response

The Customer was told to bring her vehicle into our shop so we can asset the situation. If the repairs that were preformed in out shop were not done correctly or the parts have failed we should be able to fix the problem. If the problem is something different, we also will be willing to help her out on any additional repairs. We must have the vehicle here to assess the situation.

Im just very frustrated with the company and how they did not respond to me in person with the information they provided the BBB, I purchased the vehicle in November and the car has broken down every 2 weeks of me owning the vehicle and has cost me more than what I have put down on the vehicle and what the vehicle has cost. Im a single person raising 2 young children and am in need of a reliable SAFE vehicle for my family and this company has failed to conduct business with any type of professionalism or care whatsoever in selling inoperable unsafe vehicles. They completely lied in their response to my concerns, and never told me the information they responded to this context. This company is very unprofessional and irresponsible for their conduct and business ethics of selling cars that are not truly reliable or trustworthy. I should not have to repair my vehicle that I am making payments on every 2 weeks, and they should be ashamed of themselves for their actions in this matter. All I want is them to do the right thing in this situation.Business Response

We understand your frustration. The vehicle is a used car and was sold As-Is, with no warranties or guarantees. We never lied in our response. You were told to bring your car to the dealership so we can try and help with the problems you are having. You have not given us the opportunity to look at the vehicle.Initial Complaint

I originally had a problem with the dealership because I got sold a car that had issues from the start of my loan . I recently made a call 07/24/2023 to them to have them fix the vehicle and **** is refusing to repair my vehicle because I made a report to the bbb about them selling me a car that had issues with it to begin with and this was the outcome when I asked them to fix it.Business Response

Hello,
So we did have the vehicle in our shop and offered to do the repairs at a discounted rate. She declined the repair and treated our employees very badly for not fixing her car for free. When someone uses vulgar language and bullys our employees we have to draw a line. I think its in everyones best interest if she brings the vehicle to another mechanic shop.
Also for the record we did advise her not to drive the vehicle with a bad water pump. This will cause the vehicle to overheat and cause major engine damage or failure. We told her to tow the vehicle from our shop when she declined the repair. She drove the vehicle home so its hard to say if more damage has been done from not fixing the small repair.Initial Complaint

I went into Happy Motors June 21st ***************************************************************************** and my two youngest girls. I let them know I needed something that would be reliable and wouldnt give me the same issue that my other car was doing I got into a car for the check engine light to turn it on and for the vehicle to stall on us . I called them July 5th to discuss what was happening with it only being two weeks that it was not ok for it to be doing that they told me to take it in so they can take a look at it they were able to get me in the 11th of July for them to tell me the car is overheating, my fuel pump is bad and they would need to evaluate it longer to figure out the reason its stalling i than proceeded to let them know that it isnt not fair for them to sell me a vehicle with these issues this new into the loan I told them that they should pay for the repair because of that I got told its my issue and they will not fix it because its my car I bought it exactly how it is. Im a single mom of two girls and put my entire savings into this car just to end up with nothing in the end and back to square one.Business Response

Hello
***************************** did purchase **** Tucson June 23rd. The vehicle was sold 100% as is. She called on Monday July, 10th stating she was having a problem with the vehicle we got her in the next day Tuesday July, 11th. After looking at the vehicle, looks like the water pump went bad. This is something that you cannot predict. We did offer to help her out with financing on the discounted repair. The vehicle was sold with ******* miles on it. It now it has ******* so it has been driven a little over ***** miles since purchase. If the water pump was bad at time of sale it wouldnt drive one mile before overheating let alone ***** miles. We dont like to see anyone have car problems, but somethings you just cant predict when they will break. We do have a third party warranty company that we use for extended coverage if she doesnt want to pay out of pocket in the future. Our mechanics did spend a couple hours looking at the vehicle for her, there is no charge for that if she would like to pick it up to bring it to another shop.

I purchased a suburban from this dealership in June of last year. It came with a warranty. Within 2 days I had to replace the wheel hubs myself. Now less than a year later, I have to continue making payments on a car with a bad engine because nobody will work with the warranty company and the dealership will not discuss or help in any way.Business Response

Hello, ****** did purchase a 2008 ***** Suburban for ** in June of last year. It looks like she did purchase a service contract with ************ a 24mo/24k mile. I'm not sure who she spoke to a Happy Motors but we're always available to try to help. Being that we don't own the warranty company the best thing to do is contact ************ at ************ the service agreement #b-22384189. They will give you a list of preferred shops in your area or we can recommend a shop or two in our area. Lakewood Happy Motors does not own ************ so we can not speak for them. However we have done business with them for over 20 years, so if there's a problem with something being covered let us know we call them to try to help. I did notice two bad reviews left on ****** from ****** on 3/17/23 and 3/18/23 I don't think we deserve the slander for a problem with a third party warranty company, and there may be legal action if not removed.Initial Complaint

We purchased a vehicle the evening of 1/12/2023 with salesman ******. We were told the vehicle was inspected by the best of the best and it was a clean car with no issues. We signed the as-is contract that contradicted the verbal assurances the salesman promised but were assured if there was anything wrong just come on back and they would make it right. The night of the purchase- the electricity of the car went out (flashers pulsing, horn going off randomly) and we woke up to a completely dead car. We called the next morning and spoke to ****. He had us bring the car down to be looked at- but continued to fall back on the contract that read as-is. He said he would have his mechanic look at it and if there was something wrong with the vehicle he would consider unwinding the deal, but refused to put anything of the conversation in writing. Of course- they called two days later (Monday) to tell us they found nothing wrong with the car and to come get it. About an hour after picking it up- me and my four young kids were on the side of the road broken down with absolutely no power to the vehicle. The dealer sold a faulty car knowingly, and made verbal promises knowing they had no intentions of keeping them and the seller is screwed into an $11k problem. They also put me and my four kids in an unsafe situation by selling a car that had no business being on the road, and sending us out a SECOND time with an unsafe vehicle. I would like to take the car back and unwind the deal. I will pay for the dealer fees and mileage for the two days. This place knew what they were selling and used unethical sales tactics to defraud an unknowing consumer. This is a well- documented tactic that flows throughout their reviews online.Business Response

************************* purchased a 2011 **** Escape 1/12/23 with a selling price of $8895.00. The vehicle was very clearly sold 100% AS IS, per the paperwork however he did purchase a service contract with a third party ************. The salesperson ****** has been with the company for over 14 years and would never tell someone the car "was inspected by the best of the best and was a clean car no issues" It's a 12 year old vehicle clearly it's not going to perfect. We received a call from the customer that the vehicle was pulling to the right and "flashers pulsing, horn going off randomly and car was dead. We told them to bring it down so we could have our mechanics take a look at it. The mechanic did a road test and did feel the vehicle pulling to the right on the highway, and also found some aftermarket lights installed under the vehicle. With that he turned the front brake rotors and removed the aftermarket lights. They let the vehicle sit over the weekend to see if they could find any problems with the battery being dead per customer. The vehicle stared up no problem Monday morning so they did another road test and everything seemed ok. The customer picked up the vehicle and we didn't charge him anything for the repairs on his AS IS vehicle. Then I noticed a bad review from the customer the next day. I feel we have gone over and above for him and did more then we had to, as far as unwinding the deal we can't do that. We don't use "unethical sales tactics to defraud customers" That kind of slander on a business that *** have legal repercussions, I advise they remove the bad review. Is Lakewood Happy Motors has been in business sine **** taking care of our customers.
Thanks,

I am rejecting this response because: While the Vehicle was sold "as is" the experience as a consumer is still very valid. Whether or not you choose to acknowlege the verbal interactions that were done in the office with the employees and over that phone, that does not mean they did not happen. While you do have a contract that stated "as is" the verbal assurances lead us to believe one thing, and now there is no willingness to make it right. Now, we have a car that has $500 to get it running, and a licensed mechanic has found a transmission leak.Additionally, I am glad you brought up the purchase price of $8895. When we spoke to *************** told him we had an advertisement message from ***** (another representative) that listed the car at $8795.00 and he stated it would be honored (attached). When the paperwork was drawn up, he added an additional $100.00 to the purchase price (attached). He also added 2% in interest to our rate, which was preapproved for ****% (attached). We supplied our preapproval letter, and still was given the incorrect contracted rate- which adds up to approximately $800 in additional expenses over the course of the loan. We were given the listed rate, and then at signing were unknowingly signing for the incorrect information. We offered to return the car- with $500 of repairs done- so they would be getting the vehicle back in better shape than they sold it, and they refused because they received a bad review.
Additionally, when we spoke to Gabe on Saturday, in his office, he did state that if the mechanics found anything catastrophically wrong with the car, which I believe would include a faulty transmission, they would unwind the deal. Now that a licensed mechanic has proven there are significant issues, he is suddenly falling back on the "as is" contract which this dealership is very familiar with. Their sites are riddled with similar experiences from victims that were sold cars with mechanical problems. In the 5 short days of dealing with them, they have made many verbal agreements, and are now shocked when they fail to follow through with their promises consumers feel violated.
The feeling of violation as a consumer was amplified by the verbal promises made and then broken by the dealership.
Sincerely,
