My Husband booked an appointment three months ago to have his tattoo finished. It's a big deal because we moved to Northwest ******** and he had to drive 12 hours there and twelve hours back, spend two nights in a hotel, and take time off work. Once he shows up to the appointment, ***** brings him back and tells him he heard that he was looking to get his tattoo finished by someone else in ******** and said that he wasn't going to do it because he was offended and also he wouldn't be giving the $300 deposit back. We are out over a thousand dollars with all the expenses of travel and the tattoo remains unfinished. All he had to do was tell him over the phone when he booked the appointment that he wouldn't do it. Instead he chose to willingly and deliberately make him spend a lot of money and time so he could get off on telling him to his face.

Dear *****************, your portrayal of the events that took place are entirely inaccurate.  Yes, I did take your husband's deposit, and explained to him why.  That he had violated our agreement that we had initially made upon our consultation, by seeking to get his tattoo finished by another artist.  However, I did not refuse his service.  I gave him two options:  Option #1 was that he could continue to get his tattoo finished at my hourly rate of 200/hr, but that his deposit was gone.  He agreed and understood why his deposit had been forfeit.  The second option that I gave him was that he could decide to work with someone else at another shop.  He decided himself to get up and leave.  I have numerous witnesses to attest to this.

Additionally, I also have records tracking the entire course of your husbands tattoo.  There were multiple sessions in which your husband scheduled 3 hours of my time, only for him to arrive and not have enough money, or he was unable to sit.  Every time that happened, I lost hundreds of dollars.  And in addition to that, I have it on record of your husband no-call/no-showing me.  Which is an automatic forfeiture of his deposit.  I let that slide so I could finish his piece that I had poured my heart and soul into.

Your husband lost his deposit because he blatantly violated our agreement, as well as took advantage of my time.  I explained to him in great detail when we consulted what my expectations were, and how seriously I take my work.  And he assured me that he was serious, and valued what I do.  In reality, his actions have cost me thousands in lost revenue.

I didn't owe your husband the courtesy of a phone call, any more than he owed it to me to call and say that he was going somewhere else to finish his tattoo for the sake of his own convenience.  And furthermore, I hadn't decided on how I was going to handle the situation until that very morning.  That being said, I still stand behind my decision, and am happy to stand up for myself as a small business owner, artist, and entrepreneur.

If people like myself don't stand up for when they are being disrespected and taken advantage of, then the cycle continues, and folks like your husband can continue to feel entitled to trample all over other peoples livelihoods.

In closing, I would kindly like to decline your request for reimbursement, ma'am.  As previously stated, your husband made the choice to take option number 2, when option number 1 was still available.  In fact, your husband still owes me a considerable amount of money for all of the time he wasted.

      Best Regards,

      ***********************
