I have recently become a member of It's Just Lunch. My biggest complaint so far is that I am being asked to drive too far for the initial lunches. I live in ******. These people continue to try and set me up with people that live in Denver. I have had three so far, and each time I was asked to travel about an hour and a half, so this has been a bit of an issue. The other thing that has bothered me is that It's Just Lunch says one of their main guidelines is to treat their clients in a caring and professional way. I am not feeling that so far. I feel like I am just another number to them. Now, this is very important for everyone to know and understand about this company. It cost $2500 and that it just the upfront fee. Then, there are monthly fees that must be paid continually to be set up with people that live over an hour away. *** tells me that yes this is true, but if you want to make it work, you will make it work. There is her first wrong thought, in my opinion. You should never have to MAKE something work. That is forcing it and in my opinion just flat out wrong. Regardless, I then ask to have my money refunded because this is just not conducive at all to my lifestyle currently. *** then tells me, "nope, sorry, no refunds. Didn't you read that? It states that in the small print". How is this treatng people, clients, with respect. Then, all she, ***, could do was compare me to all of these other people that have made it work. Ok, that's great for them. However, I am not them. Again, I go back to this companies complete lack of respect for there clients. That is unless you are speaking out with complaints.***'s only resolution to this issue was completely removing my from there service while not even refunding me a ***** of the $2500. OK, so where is the respect in that? Lastly, to ALL who read this. If you live in the ****** area, or south of Denver and are not wanting a "long-distance" relationship, DO NOT JOIN IJL.

We are writing in response to the complaint made by ************.  ************ became an Its Just Lunch (IJL) client and signed a non-refundable contract on 5/15/2024.  We have attached a copy of his contract for reference.

Mr. ***** complaint centers around geographical location.  Mr. ***** contract/ membership agreement specifically states that we are a Denver based service and that dates will be arranged in the Denver area.  He agreed to this upon signing his contract and becoming a client.  Please see the exact verbiage as it relates to geographical location below,

Client understand that he/she is joining a Denver-based dating service. Client must attend an interview ("Personal Interview"), with an IJL representative either in the Denver ********** or via a video conferencing method, per IJL's approval. Client may receive one Date Introduction before the Personal Interview; however, no second or subsequent dates will be scheduled until the Personal Interview has taken place. All dates will be arranged in the Denver area.

We are surprised by Mr. ***** complaint as his concerns were verbally addressed in a phone call with ***************** on 7/23/24.  While ************ expressed frustration with location, *** addressed the concerns and reminded ************ that we are a Denver based service and he did agree to date in Denver upon becoming a client.   At the conclusion of that phone conversation, ************ agreed to move forward with the membership.  Within the next week ************ went on to file a complaint with the BBB as well as write negative reviews.  We have since reached out to ************ to discuss his membership options.  We hope to hear back from him and that he will be open to moving forward.

I am rejecting this response because:

I have found two initial discrepancies in regard to the response from IJL. Firstly, This response says that it was stated in the phone interview that this is just a Denver based service. Never in this phone interview was that ever mentioned as *** was fully aware I lived in ******. Now, If it was mentioned, I would have never joined. It wasn't until later, after I joined *** told me on the phone that this was just a Denver based service. This was in response to my frustration that every single one of these dates are coming out of Denver and I didn't know why. This is also deceptive in my opinion. However, this was maybe after the third date and when *** did notify my about the fact this is a Denver based company. Secondly, I had asked *** for a partial refund since I did go on a few dates. Because of this fact I did not feel a full refund would be appropriate. It was at this time *** said to me, Sorry, no refunds. I asked further about it and said this is ridiculous and she just told me that it is written in the small print. Again, in my opinion, that it deceptive. Then after this *** says to me that she can just completely remove me from the list. The list I refer to is the list they use to set people up on dates. Again, she suggested completely kicking me out essentially again while not refunding me a *****, keeping the full $2500.

Lastly, and I truly feel this is IJL now retaliating against me for speaking out. I have tried to reach out myself by leaving messages requesting a reply. And each message I leave goes ignored. Essentially, I have been "ghosted" by these people. Again, they are keeping my money while just pushing me out. So now I do question if this is because I have expressed my unhappiness with this company? I would have to say, yes, this is the case. This was something they said, "He agreed to this upon signing his contract and becoming a client". I say, Yes, to this as this is true but this was under false and misleading pretenses.

We are disappointed by the multiple mistruths and inaccuracies that ************ has provided to the Better Business Bureau.  We are happy to provide proper records and documentation to illustrate the facts of the situation.

Mr. ***** claim that he did not know IJL was Denver based is incorrect.  ***** to signing his contract, he verbally asked our representative ******* about location and she told him that we are Denver based and that most of the clients he would be meeting would be coming from the Denver Metro area.  ************ even replied by making a comment about potentially moving to Denver.

We are unsure exactly what ************ is referring to in regards to removing him from the list.  *** absolutely never used those words in her conversation with ************ and we do not have a list.  During the conversation ************ and *** had, he communicated he did not want to continue to use the service and wanted a refund.  *** explained that a refund was not an option but that ************ could cancel the membership at any time, which would cancel out the future monthly fees.  These terms are all outlined in the contract that ************ signed upon becoming a client.

We would never retaliate against a client and we have actually been in contact with ************ multiple times since he filed this complaint.  *** and ************ had a call on 8/13 that went over 40 minutes.  During this in depth conversation, *** let ************ know that we had our **************************** review the phone call of the interview that took place between ************ and ******* at the time he became a client and that they had in fact verbally discussed that we are Denver based and that most of our clients are in Denver.  ************ had to end the call at that time and a follow up call was scheduled for 8/15/24.

In the most recent conversation with ************ on 8/15/24, he agreed to move forward with his membership.  *** let ************ know we will be in touch soon to tell him about his next match.

In an effort to show we have been in regular contact with ************, We have included below the timeline of our communications.  We are happy to provide phone records to support this data.

Timeline of communication between IJL and ************:

Sunday 7/21 ************ emailed *** outlining his concerns with IJL.

On Monday 7/22, *** responded to the email and a call was set up for Tuesday 7/23.

*** reached out to ************ on 7/23 and at the end of the conversation, ************ expressed wanting to move forward with IJL.

On 8/5, *** reached out to ************ and left a voicemail wanting to discuss his negative online review and BBB complaint.

Later that day, ************ called **** direct line leaving her a voicemail

On 8/6 *** and ************ connected by phone.  In this call, ************ told *** that although the contract does state dates will be arranged in Denver, he believed it would have been right for the representative who enrolled him to verbally mention this.   *** then requested they pause the conversation, so that she could reach out to the **************************** and request the call with Mr. ***** enrollment be reviewed.

On 8/9 *** called ***** and they scheduled a follow up call for 8/13.

The call on 8/13 ended with ***** indicating that he wanted to move forward but needed to finish the call on 8/15

On 8/15 *** spoke with ************ and we are moving forward with his membership.

We are writing in response to the complaint made by **************** who became an Its Just Lunch (IJL) client and signed a non-refundable contract on 3/30/23.
A copy of Mr. ********************************** is attached.

On 10/3/23 **************** cancelled his membership which cancelled any future monthly charges and he was not charged again.  **************** sent an email on 10/3/23 to an employee that is no longer with the company and it was not immediately received.  He sent a follow up email Friday 10/6 claiming he was due a refund to Client Services.  On Monday 10/9/23, we responded to Mr. ******************* with a phone call, he did not answer and we left a voicemail asking him to please call us at his earliest convenience.
We called **************** again 10/10/23 and 10/11/23, and left voicemails.  We never got a response.

On 11/27/23 **************** sent another email.  We followed up by calling him back the same day and leaving another voicemail.  We made yet another attempt on 11/29/23, leaving **************** the fifth voicemail, with no returned calls.   We also emailed **************** 11/30/23 attempting again, to set up a call with him to address any concerns he may have. **************** never responded to that email. Please see the copy of the email sent 11/30/23 attached.

We have made many attempts to communicate with **************** with no response from him.  We welcome a conversation when he is available.

      Complaint: 21022168

I am rejecting IJL's response to my complaint. The reason for my rejection is that *** claims to have attempted to contact me by phone. This this may have been through an unidentified number and no voicemail messages were left. In the past phone calls from IJL were have been identified. I request that all correspondence be through email only, as I find phone calls intrusive.

I would appreciate it if IJL could respect my preferred mode of communication and respond to my complaint via email or through BBB.

      Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:

Despite their claim that they have tried to reach out to me, I have not received any communication from them. I have verified my email inbox, phone calls and voicemail messages and found no evidence to support this. I replied to ************************* email that was supposedly sent to me on Nov. 30, as shown in the attached document, hoping to resolve the issue amicably.
