I'm taking my wife & 3 kids out to Colorado to visit family and go skiing for Spring Break. My oldest child is 10 and has never been to Colorado. He is going to visit his great grandmother. On our trip, we want to take our 10 year old and 7 year old skiing. We made a 2 night reservation at Copper Mountain and booked ski equipment rentals, lift tickets, and lodging. We are only able to ski one day. We made our reservations on February 28th. Our two night stay is scheduled for April 3rd and April 4th. During the booking process, we elected to pay an extra $83.41 for the "Copper Mountain Cancellation Fee Waiver". My assumption was that this was some sort of insurance for the trip in case our plans changed. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our plans did change. Upon learning of this, we promptly emailed Copper Mountain to ask to have our lodging cancelled and refunded on March 16th. They declined our request. I emailed again on March 17th. They again declined because it didn't fall into their "guidelines" for cancelling. They require written documentation from hospitals, doctors, police reports, human resources dept, etc to have anything cancelled and refunded. Why would anyone pay an extra $83.41 for the unlikely event of something that would require a policy report or doctor's note??? I feel this is a ridiculous, misleading, and predatory practice. The name of the coverage I purchased is "cancellation fee waiver". This name implies cancellation is possible with a fee; or if you purchase this coverage - without a fee. Copper Mountain is not allowing me to cancel at all. Copper Mountain is not willing to work with me at all. It is more than 2 weeks from my stay. They will be able to re-book the room. Copper Mountain's refusal to do the right thing here is ridiculous. Most hotels and resorts offer a far more lenient cancellation policy. I am very upset and I feel Copper Mountain is not acting in good faith here. People should be aware when dealing with Copper Mtn.
