I am not used to writing reviews but think it is important to alert others about this company. We hired Yakima to renovate a small house as our retirement home, admittedly a big project. The owner of Yakima is a pleasant man with an easy going, smooth manner who said all the right things so we felt comfortable with hiring his company. It is our first experience with working with a contractor but we learned to expect delays and some additional expenses. We didnt expect to pay for itemized items that werent completed or were poorly done. Items not completed but charged included $600 for a new step on the patio; $830 to install garage lights; and $645 to install a new garage door opener we had purchased. We were charged $145 to hardwire a smoke alarm in the kitchen but a battery detector was installed. We purchased a new patio door but were charged $680 for cost of materials. Some completed items were poorly done-gaps in interior doors; a cable connection that was covered with wallboard so unusable; a dent in the metal frame of the wall oven; a kickboard with a 6 inch gap to the wall under a vanity. I believe we paid top dollar for our project and, although some things were completed and well done, we paid for things that didnt get finished, got charged as if the company bought items that we had purchased and paid for new parts when scrap materials were used. I do believe Yakima takes advantage of older and/or inexperienced people and want to warn others about this.
