On December 20, 2021, I closed on my home with ********************** We used BancServ mobile notary. For reasons out of my control, the appointment had to be pushed back during the day. When I asked the notary public if that was okay, she replied that it was fine (see the attachment included). ********************* was also notified that the appointment would be pushed back. The only payment discussion I had with ********************* that day was ***** informing me that if the notary public begins her travels for the appointment, I will be charged. There was no prior mention of a new, increased invoice for pushing the appointment time back. We both arrived around 4:30 (only 30 minutes after the original appointment time -- see the second attachment). After we already both started traveling to the location, and after I arrived and checked my email, is when ***** notified me that the invoice increased (see the timestamp on the third attachment). The reason stated for the increased cost was the "inconvenience" that this caused the notary public (included on the third attachment). This was a clear bait and switch maneuver. The price increased after we were both already on the way, thus I had to pay no matter what the new price would increase to. Had I known the new price beforehand, I would've weighed my options & most likely chosen to close at a title company near me instead. Additionally, the notary public did not completely & accurately do the job she was to do -- ********************* notified me that forms were left ************ was inconvenienced in figuring that out myself. After ***** **** this to BancServ, I haven't heard back about this matter. I will be reporting it for both this ************************** in the hopes that it prevents it from happening to others. It is a bad business practice to increase the price at the time of payment -- after service has already been rendered & a previous invoice was agreed upon.
