    Overview

Ventura County Credit Union started in 1950, where it began operating out of the County Courthouse, just beneath a stairwell. Starting with just a few employees and one volunteer with a cash drawer, we began helping members with their financial goals. Back then our philosophy was simple: people helping people. This philosophy is no different today and we continue to strive to help members meet their financial goals every day. Today, VCCU has expanded to over $1.1 Billion in assets and more than 78,000 members with even greater expected expansion ahead.

    Banks vs. Credit Unions

What’s the difference between a bank and a credit union?
Whereas a bank sets out to satisfy their pool of stockholders, a credit union, like VCCU, sets out to satisfy and fulfill our members’ expectations through lower loan rates, higher interest on deposits, and lower fees altogether.

Many banks charge unnecessary fees to disburse amongst their stockholders, but we believe in disbursing these perks to you in the form of lower fees and rates. In other words, our best interest is in you, and not a pool of investors. We also educate our members on financial management so that they are able to optimize their cash flow through our education programs. We also educate children of different ages to provide them with the knowledge they need to make the right financial decisions in the future.

There appears to be a discrepancy in the reporting of late payments on my credit, and it's a matter of personal concern. This issue is having a substantial impact on my credit score, creating difficulties in obtaining loans or securing favorable interest rates. The current situation is directly influencing my financial well-being. Remove the late payment remark and accurately update it to reflect on-time payments.

Beware of IDENTITY DATA Breach and lack of them fixing the issue. Ventura county credit union had a data breach due to an employee’s email and my son’s information was part of it. I have been trying to resolve the situation since September 2023 to only get the run around. They sent me an identity monitoring for experian code that would only work for an adult but my son is a minor. Experian told me I needed a code for a minor and go back to the bank. I went back to the bank, they said someone named L*** would call me. I verified my information in person with the branch and never received a call or email back from Lana. They said she called but I have not seen anything in my phone. They got me in touch with someone named S*** higher up, who also does not resolve the situation. It has been months of trying to resolve. Save the headache and your security, and go somewhere else.

Ventura County Credit Union - Ventura Response

      12/26/2023

Hi K*******, We absolutely understand your frustration as we have been told one thing by Experian and our members are hearing something different. We were told by Experian that the adult codes were supposed to work for our minors and any adult with no credit as Identity monitoring and yes when some called in to the Experian call center, Experian again gave contradictory information. Both of the employees you mentioned have tried to reach out to you via email back in September. We should be receiving more minor codes from Experian and want to make this right for you. Sean has you on the list for codes and would like to walk through the process of getting monitoring for you son if you can please reach out to him again. We are sorry for frustration this has caused you.
