I submitted my childrens artwork to Artkive under the impression that I would have a chance to review and approve pricing before being charged, as their materials suggested.However, they processed everything without my approval and sent me a surprise invoice for $441.72 even though I had not received any physical books or products. I contacted them and stated that I did not consent to this charge and had never agreed to the cost.Instead of resolving the issue, they claimed they were reducing the price to $221.85 for a Digital Only order. But I never agreed to that revised amount either, and I still have not received any digital images or files.Despite my clear written objections, they have continued to send threatening emails, including:This is your final warning. Per our Terms of Use, we will proceed with collection actions in 48 hours.Your account has been marked for Collections.I never approved the work, never agreed to any charges, and never received the product. I am now being harassed for payment for services I didnt authorize and goods I dont have.I am requesting that the charges be removed and that all collection threats and contact from Artkive immediately stop.Business Response

This company is a scam. It markets to moms on instagram and then charges you a wild amount of money after they photograph the art and then threaten to send you to collections. This is disgusting and predatory. I just want my kids art back. I have two books outstanding for $147 and $207. This is in addition to what I already paid. I feel completely ripped off and angry. Please send me my stuff back and stop with the collection emails. I refuse to pay $384 for two books when this was not clear to begin with.Business Response

Order #: ****** Date Artkive received order: 08/22/24 Upon ordering an Artkive box to submit your childrens artwork you are greeted with simplistic step and steps of the process and a total of $39 to checkout. You have to click a single and standard agree to terms and privacy act box to proceed. You THINK you are only purchasing the box, but upon sending anything back into the box with their prepaid label to return to them, you are actually agreeing to a contract that demands payment over several charges- artwork photography, the books, etc. I initially had $600+ invoices sent to me and I negotiated it down to 1 book because they were trying to charge me for multiple books? I had ordered from this company last year but my parents had gifted the purchase, so I did not knowingly run into how poorly this company managed charging their customers. They send me collections threats via email daily. I emailed them from the beginning of this that I did not want to proceed. It was extremely deceiving to the consumer of the charges that were going to be held liable. Upon NO where during checkout were their terms easily visible and readable to the consumer. Checkout consisted of cute graphics, simplistic wording and steps to capture the $39 initial sale. Even upon the proceeding emails there was no information of how you would actually be charged and liable for, they were only cute updates that your box was received and starting to be photographed etc. The $370.94 is broken down with the cost of 1- 50 page book ($150) and then digital images charged per piece that totals $211! I feel extremely scammed and would just like my childs artwork back instead of it being held hostage or as some sort of collateral in exchange for their demand or payments and threatening tone to their customers. Businesses that appeal to parents whom just want to showcase their kids artwork is just unfair and totally immoral and deceptive business practices.Business Response

Were sorry to hear you felt misled thats never our intention. The $39 covers the box shipping to you and back to us only; additional charges for photography and books are explained during checkout, in the order confirmation page, the order confirmation email, several of our follow up emails about returning the box, and pricing is also laid out on the order form inside of your box that you fill out and send in with the artwork. In addition, we also have a pricing page on our website and even more pricing info available via our FAQ. We are also available via text, chat, call and email if you have any questions on pricing or need a quote before sending in your art. Once artwork is sent in, we do perform the agreed to services of professional photography and there is payment required for those agreed to services. We never hold art hostage it can always be returned for a flat $20 postage fee. Predatory marketing to get you to purchase the box. There was no agreement or confirmation prior to them working (taking photos of the work), which are astronomical pricing. My understanding was I was to confirm prior to it being performed. $650 for you taking a few pictures?! This is a SCAM. They have since provided more transparent information on their website. But they hide their pricing behind multiple clicks on their main webpage. marketing. I have made multiple attempts to contact the company and they refuse to communicate.Initial Complaint

I received Artkive as a Christmas gift for my children. I was under the impression that I would send in my child's work in the box provided and that I would be sent a book of images of their work. When Artkive received my child's artwork, they said that there would be an additional charge to print the work. I was not interested and told them so, in writing. They never sent the work back and I didn't care. Artkive stopped contacting me for awhile and then recently started emailing me again. I did not respond. They recently claimed to have sent me digital copies of my child's work (which I did not ask for and did not pay for) and proceeded to bill me for it and are now claiming to take me to collections. I did not request anything from Artkive. I had already told them I was not interested. I do not want to pay for these services. I want them to reconcile my account.Business Response

I found Artkive through Instagram in May of 2024. The ad said create a childrens book for $39. I used my credit card to pay $39. I was sent a box. November of 2024 I sent my daughter's art back to Artkive. I received another request for payment $32 which I paid on December 3, 2024. Total now is about $71.I received another request for payment for $198 on December 13th, bringing the total of printed book close to over $275. That was not in my budget for this project. ***** from Artkive proposed an alternative for digital copy only which I considered. But the cost for that was an additional $100.35 - I decided that this is not going to work for me and decided to cancel my order and requested the art be returned to me.***** from Artkive informed me that I would not be able to receive the art unless I pay the full amount. This went on for a month. I wanted my daughters art back and Artkive was not returning it. I paid $71 with no good or service provided they refused to send back our art unless I paid $100.35. I made it clear that I no longer wished to do business with their company. My daughter's art was returned to February 3. I am now getting harassed by emails saying that I owe $91.16. I did not receive a hard drive with digital art copy. They send me an email everyday telling me they are going to send this to collections. B I don't believe I am contractually obligated. I don't want to work with them. I have received nothing from them and yet they are harassing me to pay the amount. I don't want their services. I want them to leave me alone. I would like my $71 returned but at this point I just want them to stop emailing **** would like to file a complaint about this company for harassment and for demanding money, threatening to send it to collections without providing any service for me.Business Response

My experience has been identical to the person who filed a complaint in December 2024. I paid an initial price for an art box, they say their box is $75 but no, they tried to bill be over $800!!! Yes! I was absolutely shocked. Devestated i told them to keep my child's artwork as I didn't want to pay that insane amount of money. Did it stop there? no, they bully you into threatening to take you to collections if you don't pay it. HORRIBLE company with ZERO customer service STAY AWAY!! unless you want to pay almost a thousand bucks for DIGITAL book of your child's art that you can do easily yourself.Business Response

Artkive is a service marketed on Instagram towards mothers showing piles of disorganized art out in a nice book. They will not approximate costs and do not provide enough information on how the cost is calculated for a consumer to figure it out. After looking through their site and marketing on Instagram I estimated that it would be around $50 for the book. However, they sent the bill which was unexpectantly over $250 (not including the fee for the box, or the extra fee I paid to send the art back after). They have held the art hostage and now say I must pay to avoid collection procedures. I asked the company on two occasions to approximate how much it would cost and never got a clear answer. The box instructions said to fill it up and you could remove artwork later. So, I didnt not know to severely limit the art to get a reasonable price. When you remove art from the book, the price does not lower. I was never even able to see a preview of my book or scanned art so Im unsure of what I would be paying for regardless.Business Response

Artkive is a business doing click check outs across all social media platforms telling parents they can send in their children's artwork for a low cost of a box @$29. Through the ad I clicked on through Instagram, it said get your Childs artwork made into a book for $75. I thought that was expensive enough but decided to do it. When they send you a box to include all the art they have an order form asking if you want a digital copy of the artwork or if you would like books made done photograph the pieces. But they do not include the PRICE or how it will be calculated. After I sent in three years 0-3 worth of my daughter's artwork and they digitized it, they THEN sent me a bill of $700. I was shocked, nowhere did I agree to pay this price, I cannot afford it and in no way was I going to. I asked for my artwork back and they responded I can basically have it back if I pay the digital $498 to get my art digital instead. I said I will not pay that amount and they basically said I have to and are still holding my Childs artwork hostage. Their advertising is FALSE and they trick and manipulate you into paying an amount. you never agree upon AFTER they do the work. This is wild considering we are emotionally attached to our children things and they are preying on venerable people. I want my Childs artwork back and I will not pay an amount of money I never agreed to.Business Response
