I hired Bayside mechanical to perform routine cleaning on my furnace and to investigate a clicking sound coming from a damper. Prior to this visit, the system was working other than a clicking noise coming from the motor. They came on 12/23/22. I was told that 1 motor needed to be replaced and that I would be contacted about the cost for this. After the repairman left, the heat in that zone stopped functioning and the clicking noise persisted. I was then charged $312.60 on 12/27/22. No one from the company ever reached out so a few days later I called to explain how the heat was not working anymore and requested someone to come. They sent another technician who was supposed to open the closed damper manually, but after he left, all three zones were nonfunctional and we were effectively unable to get heating to our house. After another call a third technician came out and disconnected one damper, and bypassed the damper system so that all vents were open all the time. This effectively made it impossible to control the heat. I was then told that I need to either replace two zone dampers and a bypass damper or replace three zone dampers, a bypass damper, and the zone board, effectively replacing the whole damper system. I made it very clear when I talked to the project manager that the system was working prior to his technicians coming, other than a clicking noise, and his response was that it was coincidental that the system stopped working after his technicians came. He said the blame was on the system which was old and needed to be replaced. Any reasonable person would not agree with this "coincidental" occurrence. I requested an estimate for these repairs and they have ignored my request. Because of this I hired another company who have since confirmed that one motor needs to be replaced but that all other zones are functioning. Whether it was incompetence or dishonesty, I think Bayside Mechanical has to be held accountable.

************ called the office because his unit (with a  three zone system) was malfunctioning and there was a clicking noise.  ************* was on 12/23/22, system was inspected and a maintenance was performed.  There was a clicking noise coming from one of the zone dampers and it was recommended that the damper motor be replaced.  ************ called again on 12/27/22 and said that system was no longer heating, tech was dispatched, a second damper actuator was not functioning so all dampers were manually while waiting for repairs to be approved. At this point, ************ still had not approved any repairs or parts be ordered.  He demanded that the unit return to the original condition as prior to us visiting.   He was told that was not a possibility as the motor needed to be replaced.  He was irate and rude to office staff and techs.   A senior Tech was dispatched to further inspect and explain the situation.   ************** had his housekeeper and ***** speak to the tech, as he was not home.  Our tech closed the dampers as was requested and also disconnected the power on the damper making the clicking sound  ************* requested.   ************ then called our office and again was irate and demanded to speak to an owner.  He repeatedly mentioned that he would take this to another forum such as yelp or BBB, to which he was directed to do so.   He was passed to a senior project manager, to whom he was rude and condescending and continuously made threats.  As we are a reputable company, we made every attempt to work with this customer.  He was only charged for one service and received three.  The Manager he spoke with offered to inspect the job again, and attempt to resolve the issue. ************ continued to yell, make threats, and be unreasonable.  ************ behaved in this manner all while reminding our staff he was a Doctor as he did in his yelp review, which is irrelevant and does not warrant him to abuse others!

I am rejecting this response because: This is a gross misrepresentation of the events.  I at no time was disrespectful or rude to any staff.  In fact it was the project manager who was rude and yelling at me when he thought i was accusing them of being dishonest.  From the very beginning all i wanted was for my system to work as it was prior to them doing any service work. As an update i hired a second company to inspect the system and they in fact restored everything to the way it was prior to the work done by bayside mechanical.  They were able to do this without ordering or installing any parts. I did have to pay a $500 service fee for them to inspect and basically reverse all the damage that bayside mechanical had done.  This was all I was asking bayside to do and they consistently failed to do this.  In addition to the fee that I paid bayside mechanical I would like to request that they reimburse me the $500 I had to pay to reverse all the bad work they had done.

      Sincerely,

      *********************

We are left very confused, in your initial complaint to the BBB you stated that the second company confirmed that your motor needs to be replaced just as we recommended.  Yet, now the story changes again?  In your current version of events:  parts do not need to be replaced, unit was restored to the condition it was in prior to your initial service.   Please advise on what version we are going with?

These forums were created for business relationships that have true issues.  You have done nothing but contradict yourself, present false facts and disrespect our staff and threaten our business reputation.   All to receive more free services.  How very sad that customers take advantage of these forums for this purpose.  Unfortunately, customers like you take away from those customers that truly need to be represented.

      1.  Please re read your version of events. As stated by you: your system did not have issues, yet you called for a service (odd).

      2.  You received three services, yet only paid for one.

      3.  Initial complaint to the BBB states: ************** was called that confirmed your motor needs to be replaced.
In this complaint you request a refund for the 1 out 3 calls we charged you for.

      4.  Response through BBB states:Same company inspected and confirmed that there arent any parts that need to be replaced (very confusing) and were able to return the unit to original condition prior to us inspecting it (so it is still clicking and malfunctioning?).
In this response you request a refund for the 1 out of 3 calls you were charged for and re-imbursement for the service to the second company.

In your yelp review, you mention the oath you took when you became a doctor.  Maybe you should re-read that oath!

I am rejecting this response because: There is no contradiction in my response, just a refusal by this company to understand the issue and admit fault.

      1. Yes the motor was making a clicking noise, but still operating (opening and closing the damper).  ************* from bayside mechanical, the damper was not functioning at all (i.e. no heat coming through the zone).  ************* from the outside company the damper was back to functioning, and yes still making a clicking noise but all I asked for bayside mechanical was to restore my system to how they found it....which they couldn't or wouldn't do after multiple visits.

      2. I only asked for one service visit, to clean the furnace and inspect the problem with the damper.  If the technician hadn't caused the damper to stop functioning, I wouldn't have needed them to come the second or third time.  All I ever wanted was my system to work the way it did prior to bayside mechanical coming.  This means that yes, the damper made a clicking noise, but it was still operating properly.

      3. Yes, I am requesting a refund of your services due to all the inconvenience it caused and for your failure to restore the system to the way it was prior to evaluating it.  And yes, the motor needs to be replaced if I want the clicking noise to stop.  But the second company clearly stated that the system is operational, as is, despite the noise.  The second company was able to do what I requested (restore the system to being functional even if it still had a clicking noise).

      4.  Yes, they restored the dampers to being operational and tested it in each zone.  The clicking is still there but it continues to open and close the damper properly when the zone calls for air.  This is how the system worked before Bayside mechanical came to service the system.  Bayside mechanical claimed that this could not be done without replacing some of the motors and actually recommended replacing all motors and control board.

Yes, I am requesting a refund because in effect you made my system worse than it was before I called for help, made my family suffer without proper heat for several weeks, and required me to hire another company to restore my system (something you claimed was not possible without installing new parts).  I'm not sure how any of this is unclear or contradictory.

      Sincerely,

      *********************

NO refund will be issued!   Clicking noise is not a properly operational unit.  Interestingly enough although you claim we were dishonest, you wanted us to give you a quote to repair (also in your complaint).

No further response will come from our company as we do have honest paying customers to tend to who do not abuse forums for free services!

      Complaint: 18811337

I am rejecting this response because:

Somehow this business fails to understand that a damper can function even when it makes a clicking noise.  All I ever asked for was to restore my system to how it was working prior to their services.  They could not / would not do it so I had to hire a separate company.  Of course Im going to ask how much a repair would cost since they were claiming that was the only way to **************** to the system and its always good to have multiple estimates before deciding to do any work.  In the end I chose a company that has much more experience, better customer service, and delivered on what I asked of them instead of creating more problems.  As of now I am perfectly fine living with the mild clicking noise since the heating functions properly, but if I ever do replace any dampers I would obviously not recommend bayside mechanical.  Your responses to this BBB inquiry are very telling of your business and echoes how I was treated as a customer.

      Sincerely,

This customer called our office, requested a service call.  He had no issues with service, but wanted a refund or at least a discount in order "to be happy".  He was given a discount (reflected on invoice), was still unhappy.  He proceeded to threaten us with calling an attorney. social media, bbb, and diamond certified if we did not offer him more of a discount.  He has denied all of this, i have a voicemail from diamond certified to confirm.  please see attached invoice with customer signature.  This is simply a customer who wants free service and he is now angry because he could not intimidate us.
