Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (HSLO)  is a volunteer hospice providing short and long-term services to individuals with a life-threatening disease or condition, and to the bereaved. We complement Medicare-certified hospices by offering psycho-social and spiritual programs throughout a spectrum of end of life needs and concerns. Unlike Medicare-certified and insurance-reimbursed hospices, where client eligibility is limited to those with a terminal illness, a prognosis under six months, and an agreement to give up all curative care, we accept any community member having a need for practical and emotional support during a life limiting illness. We can begin providing support from time of diagnosis, and regardless of  prognosis or treatment choices. Specifically, we can support individuals through aggressive therapies with a curative focus, including experimental trials and protocols.

Our end of life Doula services are offered in the final 3-4 months of an individual’s life and focus on assisting the dying person and their families in getting affairs in order, planning for both the death and after death ceremonies and rituals and doulas can provide a round the clock presence and support during the final days. 

Bereavement services do not have a statute of limitations. We provide grief counseling for a grieving individual whether the loss occurred yesterday or twenty years prior. If an individual is struggling with grief, we are able to support them through individual, group or educational offerings. All services are provided without cost to our clients.
